A Heroic Life: New Teachings from Jesus on the Human Journey
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
The hero's journey - this human life - is a search for the greatest treasure of all: the gifts of your true nature. These gifts are your birthright, but they have been hidden from you, kept from you by the dragon: the ego. These gifts are the wisdom, love, peace, courage, strength, and joy that reside at your core. A Heroic Life shows you how to overcome the ego's false beliefs and face the ego's fears. It provides you with both a perspective and a map to help you successfully and happily navigate life's challenges and live heroically. You will learn how to skillfully manage changes, how to overcome difficulties, how to master your negative emotions, how to cultivate inner strength, how to be happy, and how to be true to yourself. This book is another in a series of books dictated to Gina Lake by Jesus.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2015This is another great book by Gina Lake. A similar theme runs through all of her books. I have read all of them multiple times. Every time I read one again I underline it in a new color, so all of her books are looking like rainbows. Even though the message is simple, it's difficult to try to capture or summarize in a review. The key is, as I see it, not identifying with, what Gina calls, the "mind stream". This is the relentless onslaught of thoughts that seem to automatically burst forth from the mind almost every second of the day. Gina suggest not just watching or observing the "stream", but observing the "space" between the thoughts, the space where the Silence resides. This space begins to widen through meditation and observation. This silent space is responsible for all the goodness in life. This Silence resides in the Present Moment, It can't be anywhere else for nothing else except this moment truly exist. This Silence then is not of psychological time. This path is not easy. This is a book about serious inner issues approached in a balanced way, with wisdom. It's difficult to put into words. Gina says it best, "words are a very poor representation of reality because reality is just too mysterious and complex to put into words". That said, the book does an excellent job of "putting it into words". I've been reading Gina for awhile now and I read passages from all of her books everyday. These books have helped me. In January, 2014, while exercise walking, I collapsed and basically "died". I had what is called a ventricular fibrillation. My heart stopped for over 3 minutes. I have been told that less than 2% survive this experience out of the hospital. I was in a coma for 48 hours and then in ICU for 11 days. I had never been in the hospital in my life and always considered myself "healthy". While in ICU, I could barely move. My wife stayed with me and every night would read passages to me from Gina's books. I hadn't asked her to do this and it was a sweet surprise. The reason I'm diverting with this story is just to relate that the words in these books can be very powerful and healing. I could say much much more, but a review could never replace reading this book or any of Gina's other books. I really hope Gina continues to write. This material is important. Thanks for listening.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2017Let's see. When I started reading this book I was a bit skeptical about whether this was actually Jesus or not, and I still feel that way. I am the product of a supremely traditional religious upbringing and I measure everything I read about Jesus through the lens of Scripture. Not so much through sermons, but by superimposing it on the Gospels. The ideas presented in Gina's book certainly do not conflict with Jesus as I presently understand him. They went straight to my heart, comforted me greatly, and gave me an entirely different way of looking at things.
I think Jesus, being eternally linked to the salvation of man (part of his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane) would not care if I He "got credit" for these books or not. It would be important to Him that we advance spiritually, because He loved the Father so much He pledged himself to redeem every human soul. I do think He is still working to accomplish this, because we are the branches, and He is the vine.
Thinking outside the box for a minute, Jesus, being the Rabbi of all Rabbis, loved to teach! Being Jesus, the Master Communicator, he might conceivably want to speak in a more modern language, using analogies of "software, programming, etc." to speak to a different time in history. But whoever originated these teachings, they are simply and directly put, as I do believe Jesus would teach. Yet actually Jesus? It's hard to say.
I have read the bible cover- to- cover over-and-over throughout my life, a chapter a day, taking a break in between readings of several months, and then starting all over again. There is nothing in this book that contradicts anything in the bible, in fact I think the thoughts expressed kind of light up the scripture from behind the pages, softly, like the brush of an angel's wing. The great thing about Jesus is that He can speak to us so personally--through the pages of the bible, through nature and animals, through traditional services, through music, and books like this one If we sincerely seek, if we knock, the door will be opened, this is His promise to us. This book opened a few doors for me. If you are drawn to this book and its author, it might be that the universe is trying to support you. I am not disappointed I gave it the chance.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2022This book is not only the truth, but it is brilliant. Reading it has taught me so many things. After reading it for the fourth or fifth time over the course of several years, I finally was able to grasp the deep spiritual truths at the heart of it. And it is very deep. On the surface, the details are true and perfect, but in the depths, the book is transformative and wonderful. An amazing work, and I am encouraged and grateful that this book is here in the world as a resource and unfailing companion.
