Hidden In Darkness: (In Darkness Book 1) Kindle Edition
That is, until he’s attacked by someone who wants to keep Lane quiet. It’s clear that Lane isn’t who he’s pretending to be, and Felix should probably walk away. But Felix has finally found a place where he belongs and he’s willing to go to great lengths to stay by Lane’s side. Even if it involves kidnapping, stealing, and Felix’s overwhelmingly bad ideas, Felix will do just about anything because Lane is there for him unlike anyone else has ever been. Felix might be out of his element, but one thing he is sure about is that he doesn’t want to leave Lane… even if it costs him his life.
Hidden in Darkness is 90k words of snark, car chases, and morally questionable choices.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2019This book had it all – humor, action, drama, love, sex, and snark…oh my, the snark! Felix is snarky and cute with a stubborn streak a mile wide. Which is good, he needs all the stubbornness and determination he can muster to go up against the pigheadedness of Lane, the newly blind cop. Felix is hired to be Lane’s caretaker, but Lane wants nothing to do with him. Felix, however, is not about to lose a good paying job just because his client is mad at the world and wants to sulk alone. Through sheer determination, and a quick-witted quips, Felix manages to build a relationship with Lane that soon turns physical and then romantic. While Felix and Lane are busy falling in love, they soon find that despite Lane being injured and blind, he is still not out of danger.
The story is fast paced and hilarious. This humor may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I drank it up greedily. There was a few aspects of the plot and action scenes that may not have been realistic, but that was okay. This book was not about being realistic and was all about being fun and entertaining.
I also listened to book as an audiobook after I read it. Joel Leslie does a wonderful job bringing Felix and Lane alive and I found myself laughing out loud in the car as I listened to the book.
Overall Rating: 5 Stars. I really enjoyed Alice Winter’s writing. She has a fun, easy style that flows very well. I also love her humor and creativity. The plot was interesting and the characters were fantastic. I highly recommend this book.

I believe this is my second time completely reading this book as I first read it several years ago when the audio book first came out for the second book. I think. It's been a long time. I've tried to read this book several times since then, but I couldn't get into it and when I first read this book, I was left with the impression that Lane and Felix's relationship went by really quickly - like they confessed their love for each other was abrupt and that it didn't feel genuine, like they weren't actually in love with each other and said it in the moment.
I still kind of get that impression during this read through. Kind of. I can tell that they care about each other and have been through a lot with all the action and shenanigans throughout the entire book. I don't think they necessarily know each other very well since their relationship is still very new. But I think they know each other enough to get a read on each other. They also like to constantly tease and make fun of each other, but I think they know that it doesn't come from a mean place - I think they would immediately apologize if it was taken too far or get back at each other in some way. I think another thing is that once again, this is new for both of them. They aren't in a place where they are 100% comfortable and willing to be completely open with each other, which might be why their confession of being in love felt abrupt and came out of know where - they were also coming off of a life or death situation as well. I think I would have understood it better if they had confessed liking each other, it's just stating they are in love with each other didn't really come across very well in my opinion. It felt somewhat empty. Which this impression I've had of them was why I felt discouraged to reread this book or continue on with the series. In the past I did have issues with their teasing, but having read other books by this author, it's kind of just how she writes. I think in some way, Felix's teasing did help lighten Lane's perspective and mood about his new disability, and get him out of feeling depressed about the situation. I feel like a lot happened in this book, some of it was pretty funny. I'm going to give this series another chance and maybe things will make more sense. That their relationship is more of a slow burn compared to the author's other books.

I thought the narrative was very well done and it definitely enhanced my enjoyment of this book. Joel Leslie literally became the characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2019I bought this book because I read a “freebie” from this author that was a part of the In Darkness series and it piqued my interest.
The author does an excellent job letting me learn her characters without beating me over the head with long drawn out descriptions. Bits and pieces throughout the book are enough when they are so handily done.
I quickly got a good feel for Lane’s character. Felix was another matter. His exuberance and over the top dialogue were trickier to get a handle on. Once I did…Katie, bar the door because I flew through the rest of the book.
The mystery and suspense are gripping and had me on the edge of my seat. There is a smooth flow to the action even as the pace quickens.
The developing relationship between Felix and Lane was a constant back, and forth that kept me amused and enthralled.
This couple shouldn't work, but they do. The author created a dynamic between the two that makes you believe in them, root for them, and laugh and cry for them.
The secondary characters are supportive of the main characters and the storyline.
I will reread this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024It was a great book. Not predictable at all. My only complaint is the repeated use of the word “testicles.” No one calls them that, it was oddly clinical and off-putting. And “lubricant” repeatedly. Just call it lube. It was odd.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2019Fact this is a thrilling read. It is fast paced, will have you laughing out loud the holding on to the seat of your pants as they must work together to walk through the mindfield they are faced with. Lane is in no mood to have a babysitter, and pity is not at all wanted. Felix is many things but ready for this job is not one of them. He has one redeming quality to Lane, he doesn't treat Lane as if he should be pitied.
As this book moved forward I fell more in love with both Lane and Felix. They compliment each other better then anyone I have read about in a long time. 5 stars for Alice Winters a dynamic and entertaining read!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2024Aok! I've liked her other books so I thought this would be a shoe in. Pretty stark issues with the mcs treatment of the differently abled, I get the intention, but pretty rough
autonomy stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to read the next
This is just AMAZING! I'm so hooked on this author that I can't even believe! The sense of humour (at some parts I knew I was going to hell for laughing so hard... Gosh I even cried from laughing) and the action and the romance AAND OF COURSE the love scenes.... seriously! I totally recommend the reading! If I wasn't already WAAAAAAY past my sleeping hours I would totally jump head first into the next book, right now, without a doubt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific m/m adventure story
Detective or adventure what ever you want to call it, this is a great book. Two men both wounded in different ways start to heal each other. The snark that Felix displays is so funny, but also a symptom of the way he tries to keep from getting hurt by the world. Lane just wants to hole up in his house to keep the world away. The two spark off each other and then boy do the sparks start flying. I can’t wait to read the next one.

What I Thought About The Book - WOW, This book is absolute GOLD! Lane and Felix are fantastic. I absolutely love Felix, he really is the perfect person for Lane he doesn't treat him any differently because he's blind which is all Lane really wants. I love how he teases him. The story is interesting, fast-paced, well written and keeps you hooked right from the beginning. Alice Winters is an amazing author, her books, characters and plots are absolutely brilliant. 5.0 out of 5 stars So good...
I need to confess that even if I am a huge fan of other series written by Ms Winters like VRC's or The Hitman's guide's, I've never tried this series before...Huge mistake!! The book Is amazing, Felix and Lane's story got me at the edge of my seat the whole time. The characters are so endearing and funny, the plot is interesting, full of action and danger and the romance and hot scenes are sweet. A wonderful treat! Really, one of the best books I've read! So good...
