About the author

Hello! I'm Rachael Lucas, and I write the sort of books you can read when you fancy a bit of comfort reading - whether that's on the beach, curled up on a comfy chair by a fire, or grabbing ten minutes to yourself on your daily commute. If you hit the little + follow button you'll be updated when my books are on sale, and emailed when a new one is released...
Talking of which - THE LIGHTHOUSE LIBRARY is out now. It's the sixth novel I've written which is set in the little Scottish Highland village of Applemore, all of which are standalone stories. If you haven't read them all, now's a great time to catch up. Don't forget to pre-order A FARMHOUSE IN FRANCE which will be out in spring of 2025!
I write my books at the kitchen table - all four of my children are almost grown up now, but they fly in and out of the nest, devouring the contents of the cupboards and asking to borrow the car keys, so it's the best place to get a passing hug and also to keep up with their news. After sixteen novels, I've learned to write with family life going on around me.
When it's time for a break, our two spaniels are always ready for a walk on the beach nearby if we're in England, or through the sunflower fields and woods that surround our farmhouse in France where we spend as much time as we can!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a beautiful story of second chances. I absolutely loved this book. The characters are realistic and very friendly, I enjoy the village and the close knit group they shared. This story is uplifting and inspiring. You're going to love it. As always happy reading
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2021Format: KindleHope, an eight year old, who lost her Mum to cancer 5 or more years ago, is not the central focus, but more the connecting thread: her grandparents, her adoptive stepfather Harry, the equine therapy counselor Ella.
Learning how Ella, the Wales Horse Whisperer of sorts, & Harry (known as Mac to Ella) were once married, & what caused the breakdown of their marriage, plus Ella's trauma from the accident which killed her father, was truly heartbreaking.
Inspiring, uplifting story!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSlower to start than other books by Rachel Lucas, but a worthy read.
Ella has a past, Harry has a past and Hope has dreams. Finding Hope offers a good look at people with troubled past and enough love in their hearts to over come. Solid characters, decent plot, but this book had a slow start while setting the ground work Still a worthy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2019Format: PaperbackFinding Hope at Hillside Farm is a sweet, charming story about accepting the things you cannot change, letting go of the past, forgiving one’s self, and embracing the future.
The writing is well turned and fluid. The characters are flawed, lovable, and genuine. And the plot is a heartfelt, alluring tale of heartache, loss, grief, guilt, hope, friendship, family, forgiveness, courage, community, second-chance romance, and the healing power of animals.
Overall, Finding Hope at Hillside Farm is more than I ever expected. It’s an effortless, uplifting, beautiful tale by Lucas that reminds us that life is truly precious and should always be lived to the fullest.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe book didn't get started until half way through. It was very fun with the horses and the complications. Good, if abrupt end.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a great book,I was a very happy with the ending. I wasn’t sure weather it was going to one of the ladies or the other! But turned out perfect. Great read
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have really enjoyed all of Rachel Lucas as books! This one took longer to enthralle me because it started with brief chapters about a number of people with no apparent connection. As their stories begin to be braided together, it was very hard to put down, just as the other books had been. Even though it started more slowly, I recommend you stay with it because it is so worth it. Thank you, Rachel Lucas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful joyful story
I love Rachael Lucas (gushes hugely) I am completely biased and would 100% read her shopping list if she published it ! Her work to me is pure joy and I devour them in one go, they should be prescribed on the NHS. This is a beautiful story about Ella who works with horses with equine therapy but for people and a little girl Hope who needs the horses, I won’t go into detail as don’t like spoilers, but it’s a story about love, hope, letting go of the past and forgiveness. This book is beautiful, all the characters are completely relatable and likeable. The writing is like coming home to an old friend. I just get sad when I finish them as it’ll be ages before another book !

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming
A heart-warming read with an original plot, Finding Hope at Hillside Farm is a novel about how moving forward in life means finding peace with your past. I adore books with well-written children at their centre, and Hope was a great character. The equine therapy setting is something I've never come across before and as someone who's never been 'horsey' I wasn't sure if it would be for me, but the warm Welsh setting and the joy a love of animals can bring shone through and well and truly won me over! A lovely read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping and charming at the same time!
I've just romped through this un-put-downable book. I've loved all her books, but the thing I especially enjoyed here was that the author is so clearly writing about things which she loves, and the knowledge and passion comes through on every page, horses, countryside, little girls growing up gently, supported for who they are...
Wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly my favourite book ever
This book contains everything love...the countryside, village life, romance and horses. I am hoping there will be a sequel. But for now I'll just find more of Rachel's amazing books to read

4.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but lovely
The book was a great bit of escapism, but it was predictable for the most part. I was disappointed there wasn't a bigger twist hidden somewhere. It's still worth a read, though.
