His Royal Highness Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 3,393 ratings

A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey.

I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish:
forget about Derek.

But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.

It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.

I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.

I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.

He’s just biding his time.
Making me sweat.

His Royal Highness always gets what he wants.
And he wants me.

Fun, magical and unique, a must for romance readers!

Fun, magical and unique, a must for romance readers!
His Royal Highness by R.S. Grey was one of my most anticipated November reads, and I am eternally grateful to have been given the opportunity to read and review the book early! The Disney parks have been something special to me for many and many years, and I had never read a romance book that took the idea of a theme park and used it as its setting, so as soon as I read the synopsis for HRH, I knew I had to read it: it sounded like something right up my alley and something that I was sure to enjoy. And I was 100% right. This book was a complete win for me. Let me start off by talking about the obvious, and something I briefly mentioned previously: the setting. Not only was it unique, but it also gave this book a magical and fun feeling that I can’t quite describe. And I just loved the little details of how a park operates behind the scenes: As an avid Disney parks fan, I know quite a bit about it, and although this was a fictional version of it (for obvious reasons), it was still fun to see how much care to the details was put into getting these little things right. I really really loved that! Now, the characters. I LOVED Whitney. I loved her hopeless romantic side, and she was just so adorable. Her inner monologue made me laugh out loud multiple times, she was a very awkward and somewhat quirky characters and I really enjoyed getting to know her. I thought was slightly… I don’t want to say childish, because normally childish behavior annoys me and she personally did not annoy me in any way, I truly loved her, but she did feel younger than she actually was throughout 50% of the novel. I really felt like she grew up and developed a lot after her trip to NYC though, and I always appreciate reading some character development, so there. Derek REALLY surprised me, actually. After the synopsis, I went into this book thinking he would be one of those cocky, rich characters, and what I found was the complete opposite. He was sweet and genuinely hard working, and I loved his POV so much! One of the things I was scared of when I started was the age difference: Whitney and Derek meet when she is only 18, and he is 28. She has a huge crush on him, and I was scared that he would think of her in an inappropriate way. I mean, yes, she is already 18, but at the same time, I don’t know if I would have enjoyed seeing him thinking of her sexually while he is in a position of much higher authority than her, while she was clearly not yet mature enough, and being 10 years older. I liked that the feeling she had for him then was truly unrequited, and that he never really saw her that way back then. Besides, seeing him develop feelings for her when they meet again was half the fun! Which brings me to the couple: I LOVED their interactions. So much! Their banter was spot on, fun and always made me smile. The chemistry was 100% there from the very first encounter, and I loved that Derek does not give up on trying to win her over. Lastly, I think Rachel did a spectacular job with the slow burn, and I credit a lot of this to how well the characters fit together and how good their chemistry was: even while they were not together, they still delivered such fun moments, and I found myself turning the pages to find out what would happen next and to read their next interaction. Lastly, I can’t end this review without mentioning that not only did I love the couple and the two main characters, but the side characters were also so much fun! I loved the friendship between Whitney and Carrie, I loved Cal’s relationship with both Derek and Whitney, and I loved watching the little side romance between Carrie and Thomas unfold: those two were SO CUTE! Overall, I believe this one made it as my second favorite R. S. Grey novel, only falling behind Hotshot Doc, which I believe might eternally be my favorite, mostly because It was my first book by Rachel and I have a soft spot for it. His Royal Highness was a unique and sweet book that should be in any romance reader’s TBR!

I've read a number of R.S. Grey's books in the past and loved them all because of their humor and wonderful characters, but I have especially been looking forward to reading "His Royal Highness" ever since it was announced. There aren't many things in this world that I love as much as romance novels, but Disney is one of them, so the fact that this story features a theme park loosely based on Walt Disney World made my Mickey-loving heart nearly explode with anticipation and glee.

I adored both of the main characters, Whitney and Derek. When the story began, Whitney definitely seemed stuck; she was still living in the same dorm room from her college days and doing the exact same job playing Princess Elena in the theme park. Derek's return and their growing relationship shook Whitney out of her rut and made her realize that she needed to make some changes in her life. When she finally decided what she wanted to do next in her career, I nearly squealed because the job was so perfect for her.

I'm generally a fan of workplace romances, and this story features one of the best ones I've ever read. Even though Derek was Whitney's former mentor and technically her current boss, the fact that he took a temporary job in the park with her made it seem more like they were on equal footing, so it never felt like he was using his position to force her into a relationship. Derek made his interest in Whitney clear, but he was never overly pushy. He respected boundaries and it never felt like he was crossing a line into sexual harassment, which I very much appreciated.

Overall, I loved this book every bit as much as (if not more than) I expected to, and I highly recommend it. I can't wait to see what R.S. Grey publishes next!

If you're looking for a slow-burn romance, with some angst, a few laughs, and a lot of sweetness, then His Royal Highness by R.S. Grey is the book for you! I've been a lover of R.S. Grey's books for as long as I can remember, and I'm not quite sure why this book sat on my Kindle for so long, but once I started reading it, I devoured it. His Royal Highness has a little less humor than what I am used too from R.S. Grey but it has ALL the romance! Whitney is a character I just loved from the very beginning. There was just something about her that appealed to me. The way she helped her sister and her family, the way she went her own way of doing things when her family up and left, and how awkward she was when she first met Derek. She's quirky and fun, and she really came out of her shell in this book from when we first met her.Derek on the other hand, I wasn't a fan at first, but boy oh boy did he grow on me. When him and Whitney first met, you could tell he was a "nice guy" but the way he somewhat blew her off annoyed me, and I loved how Whitney treated him when he reappeared back in her life. But when he came back, and realized what he wanted, that's when my feelings for him changed. Eight years can make such a difference and boy did they for both of them. The back and forth between these characters is quite funny at times, and the chemistry between them is undeniable, but they both need to come to terms with what they want, work through their own personal issues, and so much more, but when they do, it's electrifying. I loved watching their relationship build up in this book and watching Cal play his part in all of it.This was definitely a sweet romance and one that made you believe in that fairy tale love. If you are a lover of slow-burn romance and are looking for something lighter to read, I highly suggest picking up His Royal Highness today!

This book was exactly what I was hoping it would be. The setting in Fairytale Kingdom made me want to pack my bags and head down to Georgia to meet Princess Elena and His Royal Highness! I definitely related with Whitney, and loved how she grew throughout the book. Derek is the definition of Prince Charming. I immediately fell in love with both characters and their relationship as mentor and mentee. Cal was the most lovable character and I can definitely picture him looking down at the whole kingdom from his castle. This story, like all of RS Grey’s was amazing. If you have any doubt about this book, just take the risk and BUY IT!! After I finished the book, I went back to look at the reviews and I honesty don’t know why it doesn’t have more 5 star reviews. This is a feel good romance that sucks you in from start to finish. My only complaint is that I would have liked the ending to be prolonged a little more. I wish we got more story from when Whitney and Derek got back from NYC to the epilogue (aka I was DYING to see how Derek proposed!!!)

If anyone looking for fun, light hearted romance but with a great storyline then this book is the one. Whitney and Derek stole my heart. I specially love their slow burn romance. After reading most of RS Grey's books, it's safe to say she'll never lose her hand. Even though she has done many enemies to lovers, the stories always have an original spin to it. As well as a hero that makes your toes curl (be it from anger or passion). If you're clumsy as me, then this is probably the book for you.

You guys!! Drop everything and read this book!!!!

Disney move over we have a better princess in town! WOW WOW WOW, I don't think a book has EVER made me smile so much! I felt like a little kid in a sweet shop! AHH pink, bubblegum, glitter, unicorn princess amazingness!!

Whitney has always loved Derek. Yes, the Derek who is the Heir to the Knightley company! The company where she is a part time princess. Eight years have past since they laid eyes on each other! Will she get the happily ever after she always wanted!

The chemistry, the sweetness oh my heart! Even the "steamy" parts are just so sweet and loving! Words actually can't describe this book!

What I loved most about this book is the characters, unlike Disney with their perfect characters that are so unrealistic, these characters are fun, sweet and real. They have their moments, they get lost, they are just like real human beings!

I will be re-reading this as soon as I am finished this review!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Whitney-Derek's close-to-reality like relationship. Absolutely love Whitney's spirit. ❤

My favourite book from R.S. Grey till now. It has got just the right amount of tearjerkers, emotions, laughs, banter, romance and hotness.
My favourite scene has to be of Whitney and Cal in hospital. Gah! I love Cal so much!

And I also love how Rachel has smoothly transitioned herself from not just as a rom-com author but to a really good romance author, writing stories with real deep emotions, values of relationship and life and about love. I started noticing that from Coldhearted Boss, but now I'm convinced. "To love is to settle, to feel calmed by a lover's embrace. It's why people often defined home as a person, not a place." ❤

I love how real Derek-Whitney's relationship is. I mean, we all love romance novel relationships but theirs seemed a whole lot real and refreshing than the ones we've already read so far from Rachel.

I always felt her book "Summer Games: Out of the Bounds" was her greatest emotional body of work. Infact, I think it still is but this came close. I absolutely love Whitney's spirit. Infact, I feel in some ways, I'm just like Whitney.

His Royal Highness is another reason why I will always fall back on R.S.Grey for comfort and to feel at home when life overwhelms me. Her stories always bring that sense of settlement that I need when feeling low or just when I want to remind myself that everything will be alright, that everything will be okay.

Congratulations, Rachel on this one! ❤
