    This book is action packed, suspenseful, emotional and steamy and will have you on the edge of your seat and ugly crying. This one features Guard member, Lars. He is sent to prevent a hit on a French race car driver and ends up saving his press agent, Lillian too. She seems to be the target of a cell of hit men and the two fight and love their way through France even though it’s against the rules of the Guard to get involved with a ward. How will this end with a happily ever after?

    Lars is a man who is already being scrutinized by members of the Guard and he just wants to do his job and do it well. His next assignment is right up his alley, protecting a playboy race car driver. However while doing so, he wasn't expecting to meet Lillian. Lillian just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thank goodness for a big brute of a man.

    I liked both of these characters. I liked the bantering between them, the fighting, the chemistry and the sexy times. I liked that Lars was always aware of his duty to protect Lillian and not cross the line but I also liked that the author showed him as being human and male. He was attracted to this woman like no other. This wasn't just a one night fling situation.

    The only part that I couldn't understand was Lillian's lack of self preservation. I get that right away she just wanted to pretend this wasn't happening and just go home but I couldn't get why she kept wanting to switch safe houses and outrun Lars because she had feelings. I know that it added suspense to the book but for a highly intelligent woman, she wasn't asking like one.

    This was a well written, engaging, romantic suspense. Lillian and Lars had some combustible chemistry and undeniable feelings. Both Lillian and Lars were jaded by relationships and love and were focused on their singular goals. But the chance encounter and following road to keeping Lillian safe drove them together. The ending was so good and showed Lars’ devotion to Lillian.

    His to Defend is the second book in Em Petrova’s The Guard series and readers are delivered another convincing and emotional romantic suspense as Lars Ivanov, the man his peers believed a traitor, is faced with the toughest battle of his life; honour his oath or follow his heart.

    Lars and Lillian are equally strong-willed and independent people, who have so very much in common; both are multilingual, have a dedicated work ethic and a determination to dive into any challenge headfirst, but they are also very different too. As a woman who makes her living using her unique gift of the gab, Lillian is never quiet and always outspoken. While Lars is the epitome of the stoic, formidable warrior who keeps his feelings buried deep. But there’s no denying his passionate and emotional side that those he calls family have rarely ever seen.

    When thrown together (literally), they are not only forced to flee the danger that looms over Lillian’s life, but also her beloved France. On the run and moving from place to place, this exceptional couple will face an unknown enemy and the sizzling attraction that continues to grow and threatens to tempt Lars and destroy his future.

    I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

    This is the second book of this series but it can be read as a stand-alone. I loved this book. Lars is sent to impersonate a famous race-car driver in France. There is a hit out on him and Lars excels at driving at high speed. After escaping the wreckage, he see Lillian off to the side and a gun was being swung to her head. Lillian is the press secretary for the race-car driver that Lars is impersonating. He quickly rescues Lillian and the villains give chase.

    Working for The Guards, Lars will protect Lillian with his life. She is nothing more than another ward to him or she should be. She is definitely NOT his type. He LOVES a curvy woman. Lillian is flat as a board and loves to ask questions. Lillian for her part, does follow his orders knowing his is risking his life for her. Is this why she is attracted to him? He has saved her life on multiple occasions.

    This book is written in my favorite dual POV format. This allows me to look into the minds of the characters to see their thoughts. This really helps me to understand and connect with the characters better.

    The road to happiness is filled with murder, mystery and intrigue. It is a fast paced story that kept me glued to my e-reader. This is a spicy read so I can only highly recommend this story to anyone OVER the age of 18.
