Heaps of Trouble: An Izzy Izzard Dystopian Thriller Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

In book 2, Heaps of Trouble, Izzy's older brother, Dougal is still dead, her twin brother, Elliot, still a haunting nuisance and the world still believes her mind-reading superpower is a mental disorder, and Izzy should be locked in the secure unit of Arundel Asylum.

When proof of her brother's killers is dropped in her lap, people are willing to kill to stop Izzy and her reporter sidekick, Ted Gaye, from enacting justice. Izzy and Ted have a trail of clues that take them to a secret group called the Grey Suits. Folk who remember the times before the generals ruled have poor memories of the secret police that dressed in grey. Izzy and Ted have uncovered a plan to force the Generals to abdicate their power and allow the exiled King to form a government.

Dougal knew of this plan. The Grey Suits had attempted to recruit him to their cause. By taking on the Grey Suits they believe they will find the killers and revenge Dougal's death.

Alas, nothing is simple. The authorities are on Izzy's tail, the strait-jacket at the ready. The police and the army are involved with the Grey Suits plot, and Izzy is fast running out of options and time. With Ted's help, she must bring justice for her brother, and by doing that she must defeat the Grey Suits. With Elliot in her head, her mind-reading superpower on full throttle, what could possibly go wrong.

Heaps of Trouble, the 2nd Izzy Izzard book, is out on November 5 but is available to pre-order now.

Roo I MacLeod was born in a bush hospital in Australia on a hot, humid day and fought three doctors, two midwives and the utilities type person against his entry into the world (his mother’s words).

School was a bore and work a chore (his words), so he traveled. Australia by Beetle, Tasmania by bike, Europe by train and Africa by bus. The holiday ended in England when he met an English rose: With hidden thorns (his words).

No More Heroes was conceived in a quaint English church when he took shelter from rain and doubled the mourners for a funeral. He was invited to pray and sing a few tunes and chuck dirt at the coffin.

He now lives in a squat in West Sussex and is barred from two of the five pubs in town and vows to antagonize the remaining three pub landlords by the end of the year.

He has two children from a previous unsuccessful attempt to cohabit.

'Heaps of Trouble' starts after a contagious super-virus has ravaged the world, leading many to Albion Minor seeking relief but finding despair.
LGBTQ people have been hunted to extension, including the central character’s gay brother, which sets up the protagonist’s major objective. Isla Irving Izzard, ‘Izzy’ for short, is on a journey to find her brother’s killers.
Aided in this quest is her ability to pick up on other people’s thoughts, although as the story progresses, the reader comes to realize that perhaps some of these perceived insights could merely be the chatter of the voices in her head. Yep, it’s that kind of novel, full of twists.
Fortified with this gift or handicapped by it, Izzy sets off on this epic quest to avenge her brother, encountering a host of colorful characters; pirates, sailors, soldiers, clansmen, Wolf Girl, mentally-ill denizens, Slotvaks, and Punksters.

The inherently smart-mouthed, snide-comment spouting rebel is sometimes sidelined by the yellow and blue pills that she either relies on for sanity or could blame for the lack thereof, at times it was difficult to tell. But this added to the central theme: Who is the nutter? At times I thought it was Izzy, at other times, I was unsure.

While mostly clever, some of the writing was confusing, like with the minor characters’ conversations. I couldn’t tell is the author was trying to create an ‘accent’ or ‘speech impediment’ in a small bit of dialogue or simply didn’t catch a grammatical mistake. These small stumbles seemed few and didn’t diminish my overall enjoyment of the story.

Continuation , of book 1. Izzy is looking for her brother's murderer . she keeps getting involved in new quests, however . The secret many of the bad guys are looking for is the answer to the virus , the cure.
Is this a Trump or Johnson issue ? Bah humbug.
    Many typos regardless .

Heaps of trouble was a good read. I don't read a lot of dystopian thriller but I decided to give this one a try over the holidays and along with book #1 in the series it's been a enjoyable read. Good story, nice plot, thrilling enough and the characters are well developed. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoy the genre.

Izzy Izzard, a seventeen and a half-year-old (just ask her) refugee from Arundel Asylum, is eliminating potential murderers suspected of killing her brother Dougal. In Heaps of Trouble, her search continues, complicated now by swelling forces against her…the clan, the army, the Slotvaks, no help from Robert and Janis (who are missing in action)…and a new case concerning a missing talented young musician brought to her by his mother, a woman of questionable motives with money. To find the child, she must confront Robert’s mother, and seek his father, aided by Sally, Robert’s teenaged assistant, Roller-Girl, and two reporters of dubious motivation.

Heaps of Trouble keeps the Izzy Izzard story flowing with suspense and violent confrontations. One is never sure who to trust, or exactly what alliances are aligned against Izzy, but readers have confidence that Izzy is a match for the forces she faces. No new characters of significance are introduced in this book. Instead, the action rocks along much the same as Loads of Trouble; entertaining but not overwhelming. It is a worthy followup to Loads of Trouble, a worthwhile bridge to future Izzy Izzard books, and sure to be enjoyed by fans of strong, but sometimes clueless female main characters in suspenseful settings.

3-Stars because the book needs strong proofreading and editing.

This YA series is entertains and enjoyable. The characters are unique and the plot is fast. Overall, the series could have used a good editor, but I still enjoyed it.

Izzy is troubled as she is no closer to finding who is killing her family. When her life is threatened, again, she knows she must up her game, seek help and kick butt. It's compelling, tightly written and unique amongst detective fiction and on its own as a superhero tale

As in all Izzy books you will have to remember the characters names as their are quite a few but it is a gripping read.
