The Hook-Up Experiment (The Experiment Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,401 ratings

1. Hate-screw my high school nemesis.
2. Remember to hate him.
3. Prove my brother wrong.
It should be easy.
It isn’t.

As the owner of Pick-A-D*ck, New Orleans’ premier hook-up website, my job is simple. Connect two people for a no-strings, no-expectations hook-up. The plus for my clients is that I’m the one who gets to sift through the d*ck pics—except this time, they're required.
My problem? My brother, co-owner of Pick-A-D*ck’s sister dating site, doesn’t believe it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love.
I disagree. I know it’s possible.
And my disagreement is exactly how I end up reconnected with my high school nemesis, Elliott Sloane. The guy who asked me to junior prom and then stood me up. Who egged my car when I rejected him, and convinced my senior homecoming date to ghost me.
It should be easy to hate-screw him. If only he was still that person, instead of a hot-as-hell single dad, working as a builder to make ends’ meet, fighting for custody of his daughter.

Three hook-ups.
One outcome.
Right?

New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, has written more than seventy romance novels in the last decade. She loves writing snarky, swoony romcoms with a side of chaos, occasionally venturing into romantic mysteries. Which are exactly the same as her romcoms, just with a dead body or two. That’s the reason for her questionable Internet history—at least that’s the story she’s sticking to.

She lives on a smallholding in North Wales with her husband and their two children, a clowder of very fluffy cats, one giant German Shepherd, and an undisclosed number of chickens and ducks. Don’t ask her to count them. She will not, thank you very much.

Lusty quick read

Lusty quick read
I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review. After reading the first chapter my anticipation wasn't high. I assumed it would be another erotica where the story falls flat. Which it may or may not be depending on the reader. I on the other hand did enjoy it once the lead characters spent more time together. The characters did not make any stupid cringy decisions. I was basically surprised by all the things it didn't do, than the meat of the story. I liked Peyton's brother and will continue on with the series. I will say the conversations with Peyton's friends fell flat for me. Besides the intro argument between her brother, I found him to be rather funny. I wish Elliot had more interaction with her life, because she blended in so nicely with his. I love Elliot's family aspect and drama. It enhanced the drama for me. I love Emma Harts' pop culture references. I gave the book 3.5/5 stars. I need to reevaluate my ratings. This is for all my lusty read lovers, who also enjoy a quick read.

Emma hart has once again given us a entertaining story that has some tender moments and a little girl who steals your heart.

Peyton is hysterical. She is kind and caring but has a really crazy job. She looks at dicks for a living and sizes them up to match up women with them. Seriously that is how the story begins. Peyton at her grandmas looking at dicks on her computer. Beside her off color career, she is a fun girl. A little drama queenish and a helluva stubborn but very loyal and caring. So how does Peyton end up in finding love? Her brother bets her. a brother who you know is sweet but clueless when it comes to his own love life but at the end you wonder is he really?

So her brother the hopeless romantic bets Peyton that she cannot have three hookups with the same guy and have it be meaningless. in fact he bets her a serious amount that she can’t do it. So her friends decide to help her beat the brother by going through her database and finding the guy she least will fall in love with.

they choose someone from Peyton’s past that she hates: Elliott Sloane.

Elliott has always had a crush on Peyton so when she comes through the door and sits at his table he can’t help but smile. Only for Peyton she acts like it is a irritation. As they talk or let’s say have some animated banter at dinner they come to a understanding. Peyton hates Elliott over something from high school and Elliott is trying to appease his mom so they will only hook up so Peyton can beat her brother and Elliott makes his mom happy.

Elliott has always regretted the past in high school with Peyton. When he wanted to explain, peyton gave him the cold shoulder so he gave up. His life took a different turn than expected and he is now a single dad to an adorable 3 yr old. he is a sweet and caring guy and you can see that he still has feelings for Peyton even as she treats him rudely.

Each time they are together we see Peyton begin to see Elliott differently. When she meets his daughter it is precious to see that little girl wrap her around her finger. We also learn Peyton’s OCD for cleanliness. To Elliott it is amusing and sweet. These two are a hoot as Peyton tries to hold on to her anger and Elliott watches on in amusement and falls in love with her. Their time together has Peyton see a different Elliott than she expected and she softens towards him.

their hookups are crazy hot and the moments when they aren’t hooking up are tender and sweet. Even the show in Peyton’s house between her brother and her best friend you could see they had chemistry and enjoyed each others company. He softened her and she made him feel more.

When he got to explain the past it was so sad to see her reaction and how he was crushed by it. He didn’t let it get him down though for he knew who Peyton was and knew she needed to figure things out. For Peyton she had to look at herself and see what she wanted. From there on we see her struggle with some things but Elliott was there for her. Even with all he had going on in his life he was there and in the end she was there for him too.

their story was fun and tender. We see a second chance romance for Elliott and Peyton learn to see that maybe things aren’t always as they seem. We go on a journey where on hates the other and the other is amused to a friends with benefits to finding love and the person who is there for you and supports you no matter what. A fun heartwarming and entertaining romance that has you smiling at the banter and times where Elliott and Peyton are interacting outside of a hook up and seeing the chemistry between them steam up the page especially in those intimate moments. A wonderfully entertaining and sexy tale. .

The Hook Up Experiment is one fun, sexy, and sweet read.

Elliot and Peyton don’t like each other. Not one bit. Since they were teenagers. So you could imagine their surprise when they meet again. I honestly loved Peyton, and she was hilarious and strong-willed. Also, a bit of a neat freak. The situation with them begins with a bet, don’t all situations like this start with a bet?

This was also very fun, and it wasn’t too emotional. There are some moments that can pull at your heartstrings. But sometimes you need a story like this. It was written well, as usual, Hart has some fun characters. And a writing style that I adore.

    Overall, Five Boundless Stars

I really liked this book for the most part. Emma Hart writes good banter and snark. I had a little trouble swallowing how immature most of the characters were, but it was good entertainment value. I loved elliot. he is a great character, grounded but fun. I like how he doesn't take Peyton's crap and finds her quirks amusing and endearing. I like how peyton is so confident and focused, yet kind of crazy. I like the extreme tidiness secret she keeps. I appreciated that she and Jake weren't automatically friends just because he's dating her friend. that's always so cheesy. loved that the net didn't become a big issue, that there was no needless drama between the main couple. that is always so overdone. overall, their relationship was done well, I think.

    problems I had:
    1. I didn't understand the fight between Chloe and Dom that supposedly broke her heart. I read over it a few times thinking I must have missed something, but I didn't see how it was so bad, especially when everyone in their little circle was constantly bickering like that. just didn't make sense why she took it so hard, or why everyone else thought it was so terrible.
    2. I didn't like the relationship between peyt and Dom. they are siblings and siblings often bicker; but they were extreme. didn't seem like a loving relationship, despite how the conversation near the end was supposed to show it as such. they weren't nice or respectful or anything else positive toward each other until that final scene.
    3. the biggest issue was the lawsuit between elliot and briony's g parents. it seemed like it was setting up to be a big issue and plot point...amd then it completely fizzles out. it isn't even resolved until the epilogue and it's extremely anticlimactic. there were moments where we were lead to believe it would become an obstacle for the couple, that perhaps her job would be used against elliot, but that never happens. nothing at all happens with it I don't understand why it's part of their story at all. the whole side plot was unsatisfying. they say that there must have been an ulterior motive, but never explain what. the whole basis for the case was that briony's mom was not of stable mind when she signed her rights away, but at the end it's revealed that elliot had a copy of a psych evaluation from her to prove otherwise the whole time. the whole thing was just brushed over. if it wasn't important to the story, just don't include it, you know?
    4. lastly, there were a few places where there was just jo transition or explanation between one scene and the next and there really needed to be. scenes, even dialogue, would just abruptly end and the next scene would abruptly start without any clue as to how we got from point A to point B. it was like the manuscript was cut up and pasted back together with parts missing.

I give the book three stars for the humor, good writing style, and character development. overall, I enjoyed it for what it was, but with so much potential, wish it had been done better.

Oh my, Emma Emma Emma Hart - you are one funny lady and once again have delivered with ‘The Hook-Up experiment’ which is laugh out loud hilarious, super sexy, and absolutely delightful. The total package and made an otherwise mundane week for me seem very upbeat.

Peyton and Elliott's story was the perfect mixture of romantic comedy and enemies-to-lovers. Their love/hate chemistry was off the charts both in and out of the bedroom, yet there was nothing insta about this, it felt real, fun, complete and joyful.

Peyton is sassy and stubborn, she does not take crap from anyone and has started her own hook-up company named “Pick-a-Dick”, and even owns her own home. She doesn't need a man and is perfectly happy not being in a relationship.

Peyton and her brother are always going at it so he challenges her to a dare ... that being sleep with someone three times and not fall in love. Peyton thought it was the easiest thing until she realised who the guy was that was picked by for this experiment... Elliot... High school crush turned nemesis because he broke her heart and more...

When Elliott is setup on a blind date through a dating app he didn’t expect to see the gorgeous brunette that he had a crush on in high school and could possibly be the one that got away. When she sat down he realised nothing had changed, she was still stubborn and she hated him.

Peyton and Elliott are two of the most honest people, neither hold their thoughts in check... “Peyton, I’m going to kiss you. You’re going to let me, and you’re going to like it.” I wasn’t leaving any room for discussion— it was effing well happening."

Despite all of her dramatics Peyton had a heart and was a wonderful character. And Elliott was close to perfect also and then there is his relationship with his 3 year old daughter Briony which is just divine...

Although this book can technically be read and enjoyed as a standalone, I can't help but recommend picking up a copy of ‘The Upside to Being Single’ ...
They are both just so very clever... good job Emma Hart.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 29, 2018
I really enjoyed this book as it's all about Peyton the owner of Pick a D#ck and one woman show. But in this book Peyton's brother Dominic challenges her and makes a bet that if she can go on three dates with the same guy and not fall in love she wins $500 and vice versa if she loses. This is when she recruits Mellie and Chloe to help find her the perfect candidate in which to win the bet but their perfect candidate is none other than Elliott's Sloane, Peyton's High School crush and arch nemesis. During their first meeting Peyton discovers that Elliott is in fact a father and was forced onto the dating website by his mother so that he can get a life and due to the strain of their relationship Peyton forges ahead and sleeps with Elliott as he's the perfect person in which to hate/screw.

But in all good books Peyton and Elliott's relationship quickly changes when Elliott finally tells Peyton why he stood her up at Junior prom and why he messed up homecoming for her. At this point Peyton realises she's hated Elliott for over 10 years because she was too hard headed and stubborn to listen to him at the time when he tried to tell her the truth. And with Elliott's cute daughter Briony thrown in the mix, Peyton sees that she's instead falling in love with Elliott and his daughter and that she shouldn't let the opportunity pass her by due to insecurities and feelings on being in relationship and how to raise a little girl. As was Peyton facing all of these thoughts in her head, Elliott has to think about Briony and how her maternal grandparents are trying to take her away from him even though they never wanted a relationship with her.

This was quite an enjoyable book it was witty and funny and foul mouthed and basically what you could expect from a successful business woman who kicks butt and takes numbers. It also shows you that a woman scorned, can hold a grudge 4 over 10 years and still think she's Justified when all her walls are teared down. I really enjoyed it and will be moving on to Chloe story next.

I love Peyton and her fire-cracker stubbornness in pretty much every situation. So when her brother sets up the ultimate challenge who is she to back down from it.
When it’s time for the challenge to start, her 2 best friends take it upon themselves to help her win this challenge.
We are introduced to Elliott. Peyton’s old high school crush, and the person of hurting her beyond words. She has been holding a grudge for 10 years. Can she really enter the challenge to sleep with him 3 times and not fall in love?
She sets the rules, but we all know rules are meant to be broken!
You can feel their chemistry and when her stubbornness cracks she finds that she might want to lose this challenge and take on a different approach.
Need to mention Elliot has a 3 yr old daughter Briony, who you will instantly fall in love with!
It was a great story and loved Peyton with her crazy banter along with the rest of the gang!
