She thought nothing could be worse than the workhouse. But she was wrong. Because life as a maid below stairs soon proved to be a far greater nightmare.FREE WITH KINDLE UNLIMITED.

Orphaned at a young age, Stella is excited when she can finally leave the workhouse. Working as a maid for the wealthy Bosworth family however comes with its own set of challenges.

Because her new mistress seems to be even meaner and more cruel than the nastiest workhouse bully.

Luckily, there's also Pete, the charming stable boy who makes her laugh. The two take an instant liking to each other.

And when Stella takes pity on Alfie Bosworth, the only son and heir to the family fortune, an unlikely yet dangerous friendship develops.

But can their secret happiness last, in a world so set in its ways and traditions? Or will Stella once again find herself all alone?

Difficult friendships and complicated relationships are only the beginning of her problems though.

For a dark and sinister plot is being hatched in the heart of the Bosworth household.

Will Stella be able to prevent the unthinkable from happening? With precious lives at stake, and her own reputation lying in shatters, who can she turn to?

There is only one person who she knows she can trust... But after everything that's happened, will he be willing to help her?

Hope Dawson adores historical romance stories, and she loves the Victorian era. So you could say it was written in the stars for her to create Victorian romance sagas.

Why the Victorians?

Because they're so much like us! People in Victorian Britain lived in a time and a place that was changing rapidly, due to major technological advances.

Just like now.

Their world was turned upside down, and they sometimes struggled to make sense of it all.

Just like we do.

Fortunes were made, and lost. Hearts were broken, and mended.

Just like today.

And throughout it all, brave girls and women stayed strong - and kept believing in a better future.

Hope Dawson's sagas are a tribute to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

A bit predictable but held my attention.
When Alfie broke his leg , it was instantly forgotten when he returned to the house. An oversight I’m sure.
