Hot Sun Cold Killer (A Murder on Maui Mystery Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 259 ratings

An old murder. A new threat. Can Poe find the killer before it’s too late?

Edgar Allan “Poe” Rutherford is Maui’s best unlicensed private investigator. When a client asks Poe to look into a decade-old death on the beach, he can’t help but be intrigued. The police ruled it a suicide, but it’s up to him to prove otherwise.

As soon as Poe takes the case, people related to the victim start turning up dead—a sure sign that he’s on the right track. But can Poe identify the killer… before he becomes the next victim?

Hot Sun Cold Killer is the fourth standalone novel in a series of clever mysteries set in paradise. If you like colorful characters, witty humor, and warm sand between your toes, then you’ll love Robert W. Stephens’ Murder on Maui series.

This is the fourth book in the Edgar "Poe" Rutherford series. I have read all four and have purchased the fifth book "Choice to Kill" to read next.

The first four are good reads, however I think this book "Hot Sun Cold Killer" is the best yet. Its a light hearted mystery with some nice twists and turns. The author speaks directly to the reader at times, which makes you feel a part of the story. Takes place on Maui and brings back many memories. This is a good series if you like light and fun to read mysteries.

Well, that certainly didn't end the way I thought it would. Don't get me wrong, it was still very good, it was just surprising.

Excellent murder mystery, excellent characters, ones that build with each book and suck you in more every time. It makes me want to live in Maui soooo much (although there are a lot of murders there, lol). To bad I'm not independently wealthy like Poe...bastard!

If you love these stories, you'll love this one too. It is very much following in the previous books' footsteps, with some significant improvements in Poe's life status along with his bumbling into the solution of the mystery.

One nitpick, though - having just returned from Maui, which included several visits to Lahaina, I am fairly certain that there is only one banyan tree covering the acre-or-so of Banyan Tree Park. This has nothing to do with the mystery or Poe's life, but it did yank me right out of the setting since I visited Banyan Tree Park, read the signs, looked at the various branches and trunks, and knew that there was only one tree producing all of that lovely foliage!

It is so fun to follow our friend Po with his investigations and love life on Maui.
Again Mr Stephens spins the tale with excellence, great pacing and gives the reader just enough but keeps the final questions unanswered till the end....ready for the next one.

I love "Poe's" way of telling his story. I adore his dog Maui and the settings for the story. I like the cast of characters and the different way Mr. Stephens stories are "resolved." I wish I could better explain why this series is so enjoyable; all I can add is I can't wait to start the next one!

Poe bumbled through this one. There were so many twists and turns I had to really pay attention. He finally got it figured out though!

I love these Maui Mystery Books. The characters are enduring and you can't wait to see what happens with them next in their lives and with the mystery. The story is well written and honest. Sometimes I wish the author would name his favourite restaurant in the books as we like to travel to Maui.

I really enjoy the first-person narrative - especially speaking to the readers like we are an audience in front of him - little “asides” - cute! The characters are interesting but need more depth. Love Maui the dog - nice touch.
