- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2020I follow @MaggieGilewicz on Tweeter and she is so good, that when I saw she had put out a book, I had to buy it and check it out. I am not big on self help books, because those I have read up to now never seemed to resonate with me and my problems.
This book is completely different. It is a guide on how to take the inside-out approach, a brilliant explanation of why what really matters is what you think, literally, about your environment, your problems, your success and your failure.
It does not make the mistake of telling you what to do to feel better, but rather it explains how to feel better all the time. It makes clear that there is no cookie cutter solution for all of us, but rather that all of us can find peace of mind. It does not tell you how to solve your problems, but rather how to understand that they are problems and part of your life. As it happens, it's a rather dark moment in my life and the book could not possibly come to my attention at a better time. I thank Dr. Maggie (who told me in her feed, "just Maggie, please") for this valuable tool to make my life suck less.
If you are thinking of getting it and reading it, you have the right idea.
Highly recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2023A few days ago I began reading this book. It took me three times through and several days to really get the point beyond just conceptually, and to begin experiencing from the “inside-out” perspective. WOW! This is significantly life changing. I’m already experiencing less suffering and anxiety by clearly seeing that nothing outside me has the power to cause me to suffer. It’s only my thoughts that have this power, and as I pay less attention to them, they lose the strength of their influence. So, in a few short days outside events (other people) are having much less of an impact on my state of being. I'm a bit of a self-help and spiritual book junkie, having devoured hundreds of them, and this ranks in the top few with The Power of Now and The Unteathered Soul. Get it, and you'll get it! ; )
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2021As someone who deals with anxiety every day, this book was a great reminder that my thoughts are not 'my life'. Letting negative thoughts pass a long, acknowledging their transitory nature, can make a big impact on enjoying the ups and downs of life. This is a great book that can help you see life for what it is, and not worry so much about the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2020Every once in a while a book comes along that you can call life changing, 'How To Make Sure Your Life Doesn't Suck' is that book.
In easy to follow, understand, and digest. Dr. Maggie has written a masterpiece that has completely changed the way I think, suffering from P.T.S.D. this book has been LIFE CHANGING!
What I like most about this book is that she is straight and to the point, unlike most SH books I've read Dr. Maggie doesn't go on and on and on, she makes her point, leaves it and moves on.
She's real...
She doesn't promise you some "pie in the sky" or "only think good thoughts" she's real. She's taught me how to live in "this" moment and survive. Great book! Highly recommend.
For that I will always be grateful!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2022Living for today . I cannot express how drastically this book has brightened my future. I recently relocated leaving a nursing job that I really loved. I was so homesick missing family. Patients and friends .Frantically looking for a decent nursing job in the middle of a pandemic. My mind going in so many directions confused , depressed and angry forgetting why I moved in the first place. This book got me away from my mind chatter . I will find my place in this lovely forest I now live in. I will appreciate life and it made me remember I came here to get back to the nature I love. I now have the knowledge to make the best of today and do the things I love. Thank you ,Maggie Gilewicz I was so anxious and depressed. This book is a lifesaver!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2021This book reads like a session with a good therapist. There is nothing life changing here, she simply reminds you that you are in charge of you and you are your own best advisor. That is perhaps the hardest thing to learn because we all want advice that will transform us,often expecting a "cure" of some type from anyone other than ourselves. If you are feeling stuck, or find yourself playing the victim this is a gentle push out of those thought patterns. The tone is very casual and non threatening,so it would be a good "warm up" for someone considering therapy or for a young person who feels overwhelmed by lack of future plans.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2022Such a great book to reference your feelings against. Your reality is your thoughts about it, there is no objective reality. It was refreshing to read about how to see that in your life and not take your own thoughts so seriously. This book, and "Feeling Great" by David Burns, are responsible for helping me take control of my own feelings, and stop blaming others. Helps to realize everything you feel starts with your thoughts about it and you don't have to take them seriously if they don't make you feel good. Great short read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021I'm not going to say this book is "life-changing" but I will say, it can help you change your mindset which can help you on the path to change your life. I have so many notes and highlights in my copy that I had to buy 2 more for friends of mine; this is a personal endeavor...what I got from this book may be different than what other readers get from it. What I do think is universal is the truth therein and concise, easy-to-relate delivery of crucial but really basic information on how we start being our own advocate and stop thinking too much about things we don't need to control and can't.
How did I never learn it's ok to just be ok? This book feels like a friend reminding me that I'm in charge of me.
I feel this is the kind of book I'll read more than once, and look forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Thought"-Provoking and Life-Changing
“By all means, read and listen to others, but always remember to check-in with yourself, to see whether what you read or hear truly resonates and feels right to you.”
I have to say, all of the concepts and ideas presented by Dr. Maggie Gilewicz in How to Make Sure Your Life Doesn’t Suck: A Different Kind of Guide to Navigating the Ups and Downs of LIfe resonated with me on a deep level because my own life experiences and ‘aha’ moments coincide with Gilewicz’s ‘inside-out’ view of reality.
With real-life examples and easy to understand language, Gilewicz explores the concept of our thoughts being the source of how we experience everything around us. It is a concept that I wholeheartedly believe in.
I’ve been told that one of the reasons I excelled as an addictions counsellor was that I have a calmness about me – that when I walk into a room, a sense of tranquillity descends. I attribute this calmness directly to the ideas Gilewicz writes about. Do I have depressing or negative thoughts? Of course, I do. I live in a state of constant pain. There are often times when it gets the best of me, but I don’t give these thoughts any importance and I let them pass naturally without dwelling on them.
In this day and age where we’re seeing so many suffering from anxiety and other mental health disorders, How to Make Sure Your Life Doesn’t Suck offers a view and perspective that I believe will not only help ease the suffering of many but may very well save lives.
Gilewicz presents this notion that life is an inside-out experience in a conversational style. Reading this book is like sitting down to have a cup of coffee with a good friend. For me, it reinforced my own beliefs and gave me more to think about. How to Make Sure Your Life Doesn’t Suck is a book that I recommend highly and one that I will be buying as a gift for those precious to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A simple yet powerful life changing understanding
This book is written so simply, maybe it should have been called personal development for experts, because thats what I thought I was, a long list of credentials but no idea about change.
Often thats what we need, to allow us to get out of our own way. I had spent so many years caught up in my own conditioning and study of psychological theories about how change should work, and how things should look if they are going to be useful to me, what it is I am looking for if its going to be a good book about change etc.
This book contains what I didn't know about change, but was always unavailable to me, because I thought I knew.
What I got with this book from Maggie is that its really much simpler than it seems, if i switch off my human filter, its life changing and its permanent, there are no techniques to follow, or practices of standing in the mirror saying I love you just to feel better, but a simple explanation of how the system works, that applies to all.
I started to see without the made up pressure of life, work, self, relationships etc and how effortless change really was, when I stopped making it difficult.
I would highly recommend this to anyone, and to read with an "I don't know, what I don't know" attitude to what you are taking in...because that was the key for me to seeing things differently

5.0 out of 5 stars Real... no BS kind of book!
What I really loved about this book is that the author didn’t try to sugar coat it. It’s a no “BS” kind of book. It’s not one of those self-help book that reads in the third person, preaching that if you think positive your life would instantly be better. This book by Dr. Maggie actually sheds light using real life experiences, much of her own. And how she herself transformed her life, for the better. I loved it because many of us, I'm sure, can relate to her experiences (weather we admit it to ourselves or not). Refreshing, I loved it! ❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly life changing book!
Wow! What a great book this is. I have read A LOT of Three Principles/Inside-Out Understanding books (almost all of them!) and this is up there in my top 3. You know when you read a book and think, “I wish I had written this!” Well this is what I thought as I read this. It is super clear, engaging and life transforming. I encourage you, if you don’t want your life to suck, or you just want a better experience in your life, to read it. Thank you Dr. Maggie G. for writing it. Many congratulations on such a fine piece of work that I have no doubt, will help many people. I will be buying more copies to give to my clients :))

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had written this book
I'm not one to read self-help books but glad I read this one. I only wish that I had written it. Maggie's book really resonated with me. It will help you better understand your moods, your relationships, your work life and how you approach life. This book is free of jargon and psychological dribble. It's written in a simple and easy digest fashion. I'm going to pick it up and read again every so often so I don't forget the messages she offers.
