Hunter's Descent (Mischief and Monsters Book 2) Kindle Edition
Snagging the hunter was the easy part. Now I have to prove to him that a life filled with chaos, the most amazing fish ever, and delightful me is so much better than normal—trust me, he isn’t too hard to convince.
But when a group of insolent chimeras laughably think they can target my one true love, they have another thing coming for them—likely death.
With my dubious sidekicks in tow—and Declan, who is as happy as I am to run headfirst into danger—we travel across the country to track down why these chimeras are harassing Declan. But what we find might prove yet again that you never know who the real monster is.
Declan
Yeah… what he said. Except the fish part.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2023Hunter's Descent is an outstanding continuation of the Mischief and Monsters series. I did reread Monstrous Intent before reading Hunter's Descent. It helped me remember what was going on with these guys and the craziness that is their life together.
The story has great flow and kept me on the edge of my seat with its almost nonstop action. The secondary and tertiary characters kept things moving along with their contributions to the storyline. I'd love to see some characters get more time in the limelight. The bad guys didn't have to work too hard for me to hate them and cheer when they got their comeuppance.
Lake, Declan, Sir Reginald, and Mittens are unique characters who kept my interest and made me love them even more now than I did before.
I am now even more confident in a HEA for Lake and Declan. With his understated ways and quiet demeanor, Sir Reginald, in particular, made me want to get one for myself.
There was a lot of cringing, yelling, and laughing as I flew through these pages. This is some good stuff.
I look forward to more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2023Declan and Lake are back and just as crazy as ever! There is so much Felix and Lane in them in how even though they could be safe at home they insist in inserting themselves in the danger for the rush. I honestly don’t know how Declan ever survived as an elementary school teacher, even though he is self professed to be the worst teacher ever lol Lake is off being Lake and Declan, while pretending he hates being dragged along for the ride, is loving every second of it. I wish there’d been more Emma in this book and she absolutely killed me as a side character in book 1. However I loved Sy and Indigo’s interactions. They were next level hilarious. Sir Reginald and Mittens get all the stars!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2023I am so happy Lake and Declan are back! I was immersed right back into their world from the very first page, as I sat back and enjoyed the ride through another adventure with these two and their interesting group of found family. Lake and Declan are enjoying life together, Lake with all his sass and silliness, and Declan with all these feelings he can't express. Of course Mittens and Sir Reginald are here too and just add to the humor and snark in their household. As you would expect, they get wrapped up in drama surrounding the DRD and the chimeras and hunters and they are off to make things right! Indigo and Sy round out the found family as they work together to bring down the bad guys. It was fantastic! I was snorting out loud at parts where the humor was perfectly injected into tense situations. I was smiling at how much Declan and Lake love each other, and the crazy ways they show it sometimes. The action was really good, and we got to see a lot of Lake and his friend's in shifter form knocking out bad guys, which I loved!
The story was thoroughly engaging, so funny, and just all around entertaining. I enjoyed every minute of it! I hope there is more to come from these two and their friends!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2023I loved this next book in the Mischief and Mayhem series! Declan and Lake are the most unlikeliest of couples: a former monster Hunter and a monster. Their witty banter was fantastic and I found myself laughing out loud at points, and sending my book bestie hilarious lines throughout. I adore their love language and honestly can’t get enough of these two. I have to admit I absolutely love the way Lake loves Sir Reginald, and they way he dotes on him. Together they band forces with Sy and Indigo to face literal demons from both their pasts. It felt like there was danger and excitement at every turn! We meet a lot of interesting characters along the way in their quest, but I found a soft spot for Dan and the jokes at his expense. I loved the growth that Declan and Lake made in their relationship, and the way Declan realized he was having a hard time letting down all his walls around his heart with Lake. It was great learning more about Lake and what he considered his family, as well as more of Declan’s backstory of becoming a Hunter. This one truly had it all: laughter, wit, excitement, drama, danger, romance, and some hot sexy times! I had a great time with their story, and I’m so eager for more of these two!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2023In true Alice Winters spirit this book is filled with awesome characters, a made up world that feels real, action and laugh out loud moments.
Declan has come a long way since his Hunter days and are now shacked up with a Chimera boyfriend, a Chimera pet and a more or less alive fish. But his life with Lake is far from boring as they both are drawn to chaos like moths. And both Lake and Declan sees that there's monsters among both Hunters and Chimeras.
Had a great time reading this book and wants another one immediately.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2023I really enjoyed this book with just a few irritations that is probably" me " specific. 1st : if u have computer wizards and rich criminals why wasn't all their money split between the group through the computer via said computer whizzes?
2nd : this authors books can become over long with just nonsense comedy interplay with no real addition to the story line.
3rd: These main characters were very Leland and Jackson. Normally I start a book and read it through. Mad if I have to put it down. This book I actually put it down and gave it a rest. The early part of the book was good information and fact finding with the required sexy times. From about 40% ish - 70% ish it was just boring filler material with a bone thrown in to try and keep your attention (Especially if you figured out the bad guy already). It was in that between period that I really started to get antsy. It was just blah I guess. Then I dove back in and got to the island and then I was excited again. I would recommend because the above things are probably me specific but I can use less sex talk, more mystery, and less banter to fill gaps.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2024Perfect second book filed with answers but also some new questions. I really enjoyed the growth of their relationship, how they are now able to be more vulnerable with each other while takes of heads.

4.0 out of 5 stars 🖤 Lake & Declan 🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/6.
🌶️🌶️/5.
I loved these two but I felt like at times the humor was more of the same. It has a bit of down time too but still this didn't take away the fact that I enjoyed these two and Sy and Indigo.
These monsters are ridiculous but in a good way and I loved them.
I definitely cannot wait for book 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mischief and Monsters 2
Twice the fun filled hilarious chaos that is the life of Declan & Lake.
You will spend the next few hours absorbed in the mystery of who is killing who with a cast of characters that will have you in stitches. But if you haven't read the first book then I recommend starting there because these 2 men are worth it!

4.0 out of 5 stars aAlice Winters’ books
The thing about Winters books is it gets to the end and you are cursed to stay obsessed with the caracteres. 🤣 said that… hahaha Hunter’s Descent is an amazing continuation to the series. You get to see more and deeper into Lake and Declan’s relationship, their past and their dynamics as a couple. There was a lot of funny moments and Lake is as funny as ever. Hope we can keep getting more about their stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real monsters
An excellent second book! Also, a clear sign that there is more to come from this series.
Lake and Declan are living their lives together as normal people which is.....going completely normal (not). Things get a bit dicey when some chimeras come after Declan, insisting that he knows why, and the symbol that first brought Declan back into this world is popping up again. Lake is not going to let anyone hurt Declan, and Declan is a bit curious about what is happening when he truly has no idea what the chimeras are talking about. Soon the two are hunting down another organization based on this mysterious symbol because it seems like a fun bit of chaos to follow.
This is really the crux of Lake and Declan; they want a normal life, but they also thrive on chaos. It is a bit hard to imagine them going back to a fully normal life when they enjoy getting into trouble so much that they would at times seek it out for fun. It is what makes the story so enjoyable, and it will be interesting to see what it means for them as they figure out their lives together.
While the hunt does lead to some very interesting things, there is also much learned in this story that leaves it open ended. There are still mysteries about the past and about the chimeras that look like they can pop up again in further stories. As long as they keep being as entertaining as this one, I look forward to reading them!
