How did the masters of art imagine the most torrid love affair ever told, David’s forbidden love affair with Bathsheba?

This collection reveals his attempt to cover it up and the regrets that would haunt him for the rest of his life.

These amazing sculptures, paintings, etchings, and manuscripts inspired the author to write The David Chronicles, an epic historical fiction trilogy with a modern twist. Besides being an artist and an architect, she taught art history and curated this collection to analyze the contrasts between various artistic viewpoints.

This collection is arranged not by artist, nor by artistic style or era, but rather moment-by-moment following the biblical story, as imagined by Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Chagall, Picasso, and Jan Steen to name but a few.

★★★★★ "I love the classic depictions of David and Bathsheba portrayed by the various artists, but I was equally intrigued by the modern canvasses of the famous couple.”

How did the masters of art depict these subjects? The epic battle of David and Goliath: a moment by moment account. The victory celebration, Michal’s love, Saul’s jealousy, and David’s narrow escape from his assassins. The decline of the House of Saul, losing his last battle against the Philistines, and David’s rise to the throne. The most torrid love affair ever told: David’s forbidden love affair with Bathsheba, his attempt to cover it up, and the regrets that would haunt him for the rest of his life. Trouble in David’s house: Amnon attacks his half-sister Tamar, the assassination of Amnon at the hands of her brother, Absalom, and Absalom’s revolt against the king. Abishag brought in to serve as David’s last concubine, the rivalry between his sons, their revolts against him, and handing power to his chosen heir, Solomon, ensuring a lasting legacy.

Editorial Reviews

Review

  • "The art is arranged neither by artist nor by artistic style or era, but rater by the story the art tells. It is a majestic, learned, beautifully designed book that carries a lot of instruction, entertainment, as well as visual pleasure." - Grady Harp, HALL OF FAME, TOP 100 REVIEWER
  • "This is an incredible collection of paintings, etchings and sculptures that artists have completed throughout several centuries. The artists are from at least 10 countries and include France, America, Germany, Russia, Italy and Austria to name a few. The reader will be able to see Moreau, Rembrandt, Schwebel, Picasso, Raphael and Cezanne - once again just a few of those in the book. It should be noted that I read this on the Cloud and was able to admire the collection perfectly." - Serenity, HALL OF FAME, TOP 10 REVIEWER
  • "I love the classic depictions of David and Bathsheba portrayed by the various artists, but I was equally intrigued by the modern canvasses of the famous couple. The paintings and captions beneath them in this book are a brilliant prelude to the stories in The David Chronicles series by Ms. Poznansky. For me, this book was a rich insight into what awaits me in the series." - Jan Romes, Author
  • "This is a wonderful collection of art compiled by Uvi Poznansky that artists have accomplished throughout the centuries. It is a beautifully designed book that will provide a lot of visual pleasure. I'm a big fan of Uvi Poznansky so it's five stars from me again." - Piaras, Vine Voice

Then, taking a sharp turn in her education, she earned her M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.

Her poetry book, Home, is in tribute to her father. Her collection of dark tales, Twisted, and her Historical Fiction book, A Favorite Son, are both new age, biblically inspired books. In addition, Uvi wrote and illustrated two children books, Jess and Wiggle and Now I Am Paper. For each one of these books, she created an animation video (find them on YouTube and on her Goodreads page.)

Uvi Poznansky dons another Technicolor coat in this latest series of books, always raising the bar for her high standard previous achievements. Originally from Israel where she studied Architecture and Town Planning then moving to the US where she studied Computer Science and became an expert in Software Engineering, Poznansky managed to combine the design elements of two studies into unique formats. And she has accomplished the same with the other side of her brain - making visual her ideas (she is an accomplished painter, drawer, and sculptor who has enjoyed exhibitions both in Israel and in California, her present base) and making words in poetry and in short stories and children's books.

Uvi has published an absorbing book series – The David Chronicles – and now is curating art collections to enhance the pleasure of her books’ stories. This volume, A PEEK AT BATHSHEBA - focusing on the most torrid love affair ever told: David’s forbidden love affair with Bathsheba and his attempt to cover it up – , follows her previous installments THE EDGE OF REVOLT, FIGHTING GOLIATH and FALL OF A GIANT and is again one of the most complete collections of art from ancient through renaissance to contemporary in drawings, paintings, sculptures, etchings – works by James Tissot, Ivan Schwebel, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Pablo Picasso, Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Francisco Hayez, Giovanni Bilivert, Giovanni Balducci, Raphael, Jean-Léon Gérôme, Sebastiano Ricci, Giovanni Battista Naldini, Cornelis van Haarlem, Karl Brulloff, Jan Massys, Jocopo Zucchi, Giordano, Carle-André van Loo, Jean-François de Troy, Guercino, Gistave Moreau, Paul Cézanne, Dirk, Vis, Magnus KleineTebbe, Henri Lindegaard, Rittun Thorstein, Rubens, Jan Massys, Paolo Veronese, Artemisia, Gentileschi, Jan Steen, Rembrandt, Willem Drost, Govert Flinck, Salviati, Jacob Adriaensz Backer, Ernst Fuchs, Chagall, Gustavve Adolphe Mossa, Pieter Lastman, Oskar Kokoschka, Michelangelo, Henry Fueli, Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld - some well known, others – discoveries. The art is arranged neither by artist nor by artistic style or era, but rater by the story the art tells. It is a majestic, learned, beautifully designed book that carries a lot of instruction, entertainment, as well as visual pleasure. But then that is what Uvi is all about! Grady Harp, April 17

A collection of works of art depicting the story of David and Bathsheba. For those who don't know, this is a Biblical story where King David looks down and sees Bathsheba, the wife of one of his military men, bathing. He so desires her that he begins an adulterous affair with her, an affair that results in pregnancy. To try to hide this, David first tries to get Bathsheba's husband to sleep with her during a furlow. When that fails, he sends the commander an order to but Bathsheba's husband in the thick of the fighting and then desert him so that he is killed.

Some have quotes under the art work and one that caught my attention was from a Dutch man named Dirk, Vis. The quote reads 'The world today doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?'.

A most rewarding book for me to look at this snowy afternoon. .

    Most highly recommended.

Stunning images of classic art on the erotic side. Beautifully presented in story fashion. I discovered this book after reading Uvi Poznansky's David Chronicles. It is a lovely companion to that series. However, it sends alone as an illustrated chronicle to that classic story "the most torrid tale of passion ever told: David's forbidden love for Bathsheba, and his attempt to cover up the scandal." I recommend all her books. Five stars.

As is everything that Ms Poznansky has her hand in, this work is beautifully crafted. The pieces are varied, dealing with the different aspects of David's and Bathsheba's timeline. The artists are from all genres and the selections have been carefully chosen. I would highly recommend this book. It deserves to be published in a hardback edition.

Uvi selection of paintings give depth to the Biblical story of David and Bathsheba. Exploring aspects of the story most readers may not have considered. Personally I had no idea that there were so many renderings of this Bible tale. Uvi choices give them even more of a human face.
