- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2015Format: KindleVerified Purchase“Stay With Me” brings several specific elements that make this story very significant. Beautifully written characters tell a wonderful story. Curtis is a bank teller. He is an avid reader, shy and feels a bit socially inept. He dines at his favorite place where he can eat a meal and escape into his favorite book on his kindle. Joseph is the young man who works for his father in the restaurant. His father is cold and treats him poorly.
Joseph catches Curtis’ eye but here is where the story is different and what makes this story special. Curtis is older and gradually the attraction is developed and explored as the relationship is established. I will not go into much of the story as others have done so in the other reviews. As the men get close the age difference is addressed and respected, the balance of power because of the age is not exploited.
Joseph is always referred to as the young man, not “boy”. In many contemporary m/m books, that is not the case. I am not saying that is wrong. I have and like many books that do. What I am saying is this relationship is treated with such innocence and tender loving respect. The story is wonderful and so very refreshing and I found it unique.
For the same reason that authors do use terms boy, I suspect the author avoided doing so. I think in doing this it opens “Stay With Me” to a new audience who can look at m/m romance in a way that is not intimidating and only erotic in nature. They book romantic and very sexy. The parts of the book that describe the abusive life that Joseph comes from are so realistic that it rings so true. I also love that Curtis does not come riding in all bad ass like a knight in shining armor to save the day. He cares and wants to help and he does so in a very gentle realistic way. For any grammatical or structural shortcoming, there may be I think that the story and the way that it is told more than justifies my rating this book so highly. I love this book and look forward to reading more. I also love the striking cover, it is beautiful.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Curtis & Joseph. It was difficult to deal with Joseph’s father & how horrible he was. I cried while feeling all of Joseph’s pain & heartache. Curtis’ sweet heart & gentle nature are everything Joseph needs in his life. And Joseph’s bruised but open soul, ready to be loved, is exactly what Curtis needs in his life. They both need someone to love, who is willing to be loved in return.
One thing about Lily Lamb’s books, is that I always end up experiencing new music that I’ve never heard. Whenever she mentions an artist in her stories, I look them up & listen to the music while reading. In this story, she features Albéniz. I love this guitar music & added him to my Apple playlist.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really couldn't get into this book like I wanted to. Curtis is a bank, teller. He is an avid reader, shy and feels a bit socially inept. He eats at the same daily and escape into his favorite book on his kindle. Joseph is an Asian young man who works for his father in the restaurant. His father is cold and abuses him. I think that the reason I had problems with this book was because of the whole thing with Joseph and his father and the Asian cultural. I understand that the children are to take care of the elderly but what about their life? These two had a tender relationship and was loving from the start. I really liked when Joseph got the courage to leave his family I know it was hard being afraid of change. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking reading more of her work.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat an amazing love story! Lily has a special way of completely developing a scene, and both main characters into people. People who you can see interacting, and having conversations with. Joseph and Curtis both seemed like real people to me. Fantastic character connection. The slow, subtle contradictions that eventually blossomed into love, with an amazing happily ever after. I can not wait to read the follow up to this book!
I could relate to Joseph's misfortunes growing up and working in my abusive mothers business. And could relate with this paraphrased quote, "After his father hit him in the head again and grabbed Joseph's hair... Never! I mean never will you be customer friendly again!" Sadly, I suffered that same fate, but now I am obsessive compulsive about customer service even though the opposite was beaten into me daily.
A great big beautiful book of hope, happiness and happy endings!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCurtis, the big guy who was bullied for his size by his last lover, finds himself falling for a young Asian man who works in a Cafe. Curtis takes notice. He knows something is wrong and he knows he's attracted. Their relationship develops slowly and Curtis learns the waiter's name is Joseph.
Joseph has never known love from his father and grows up feeling guilty. He has no friends and only works, his dreams of a good future on hold. Seeing Curtis' attention he finds hope.
Their relationship has its ups and downs. It's a matter of will they manage to love and grow. A lovely story to read when you have a moment in time to do so.
I received this as an ARC after a recent update

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching story!!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe blurb caught my attention in an instant! The story of big cuddle-bear Curtis and sweet Joseph is touching and heart warming. Both characters will find a place in your heart the moment you get to know them. To learn and "see" how Joseph is abused by his father and how he is desperatly searching for a way out of it just made me teary and sad. He seems so innocent and just wants to be free of his father and live his own life...maybe with his secret crush, Curtis. And Curtis, the big teddy bear, who falls for the cute waiter and longs to date him. He's so patient and lovable, especially when he cares for Joseph and falls for him head over heals more and more.
The whole story is well elaborated and fits great in its own timeframe.
It's a smooth read and I enjoyed every word of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very sweet story - two shy
A very sweet story - two shy, a bit lost souls who meet and - gradually - fall in love. While there is no insta-love between Curtis and Joseph, there certainly is insta-attraction. The way they slowly come together is gentle and takes time. But when they do come together, oh boy! I loved the way Curtis takes care of Joseph while respecting his integrity. I would have loved to have seen the meeting between Joseph and Curtis' parents for him to realise what parental love feels like. Thank you for a beautiful story, Lily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a very sweet story-line that was a little bit poorly written in a few spots, but I still enjoyed reading it. Both mc's are gentle loving men, total opposites in size and ethnicity. Joseph had lived a life of misery and pain, Curtis wanted to rescue him and give him the life he deserved.
