Ice Devils (Bethesda Barracudas Hockey Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 509 ratings

When hockey player Blake Conti joins the national champion Bethesda Barracudas, he's nursing old relationship wounds. Determined to resist romance, he focuses on the game, but his resolve weakens when he meets Mark Sakamoto, or Sako.

Sako, one of the team’s rising stars, is deeply closeted because he fears his family’s reaction if they learn about his sexuality. Immediately attracted to Blake, he uses scorn and insults to drive Blake away, and the men are soon at war.

Their conflict threatens team unity until a silly prank sparks an unexpected bond, leading to a romance. With “ice in public, heat in private” as their motto, they keep things secret. But as they fall for each other, Sako realizes he must confront his family with the truth so he and Blake can live happily ever after.

Ice Devils is a captivating, low-angst, enemies-to-lovers tale featuring scorching athletes, light-hearted comedy, riveting hockey, high-steam romance, and a beautiful HEA.

Enemies to Lovers - Fun & Sexy Read
Blake and Sako are fun, likable and believable characters. You can’t help but love them. The banter between them is priceless and the intimate scenes are hot. Love that the game scenes make me feel as if I am there. I love how the story makes me feel as if I’m visiting with friends. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorites and these authors delivered. This is another fantastic read and love how they incorporate an entertaining story with humor, passion and true love! A definite must read!

Blake and Sako’s story was fun and sweet. It was great seeing their relationship evolve and all that goes into that. I think Ryan and Josh did a great job of showing how fear can manifest in different ways. 100% recommend.

First off, I love these authors, and I think they write such compelling characters. This series is awesome. This book is my least favorite in the set so far. I don’t typically like enemies to lovers stories because it takes so much more detail about characters’ states of mind for me to believe the change. That’s where I landed with this book as well. I felt like the two MCs weren’t written as particularly deep or reflective, so I didn’t buy their change. I hated the focus on the pranks, and I needed more by way of a plot. This is definitely low angst, which I appreciate. Seeing the characters from previous books was really nice too. So definitely not all disappointing. Overall, I’d recommend the series and even this book. It just didn’t grab me the way the others in this series did.

Where do I even begin? Enemies-to-lovers has been a favorite trope of mine for a long time. When I heard that Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood were writing one, I impatiently waited to see what they did with it. Boy, did they NOT disappoint.

Ice Devils is EVERYTHING I want and love in an enemies-to-lovers romance. It has perfectly executed banter. These men did not hold back, and I was here for it. It had chemistry. They say there is a thin line between love and hate, and they walk it. Heck, they skated it! And when it came to a head - let's just say it was a good thing they were alone. Last but not least, these men had passion. It was in every pore they possessed and when you combined them? Well, you might want to stand back. As a bonus, this book had great comedic timing with its funnier moments. All of the beforementioned things made for a delightful read, and I hope these authors continue to bring us books like this.

Taylor and Harwood excel in writing fantastic character-driven stories that capture your heart and attention. They leave a lasting impression. Often, I begin thinking about a character of theirs, and I find myself smiling. Their stories don't end just because you finish the book, and it always welcomes you back like a long-lost friend when you sit down for another read-through.

This book made me happy, burst out laughing (which is not an easy fete because I typically don't react more than a smile), and fall head over heels for Blake and Sako. I have no doubt you will, too.

Unfortunately I did not connect with Blake or Sako, or their connection with each other. I’ve read others in the series I’ve enjoyed more

Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood got it exactly right in this book. Two dominant, passionate men fight through perceived dislike and hurt feelings to find the love of their lives in a brilliant happy ending. I love seeing big athletic men learn to show vulnerability and conquer the fear of expressing how they really feel. This book also had several laugh out loud funny scenes to break the tension. These two are supreme pranksters and you will love what they get up to. One of my favorite things about the way these authors write is that the angst comes from outside sources which allow the couples to face things together to resolve any issues. As always the hockey scenes are authentic, exciting and easy to follow no matter how much you know about the game. This was a highly enjoyable read. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Written in dual first person POV. Good amount of M/M sexy times. I enjoyed the hockey pranks and the “team spirit” but I do get tired of the preschool “I like you so I’ll be mean to you instead” thing. Still a fun read with a HEA.

I love Blake and Mark's story. This is book #5 of the Bethesda Barracudas Hockey series by Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood. It has been written to be read as a stand-alone, even though it's part of a series.

The author duo always writes real, authentically written stories of gay men falling in love and finding their own Happily Ever After (AKA HEA).

In this book, the "ice devils" Blake and Sako, pull various pranks on their teammates, who all take everything in stride.

If you have not read this book yet, I highly recommend you do.

These authors are always one-click for me. I know their style…or so I thought. This book is different than their others, but golly it really works for them. I’ve liked Blake since Nice Caching You, and this book has me solidly in love with him. Then they added the irresistible Sako into the mix, and I swooned. Blake and Mark are mischievously delicious and positively smile inducing. They are both snarky characters who want to dominate, but ultimately their sweet and sensitive sides shine through. Their off the charts sexual tension translates into some explosive love scenes. Together, these two really are the  perfect combination.

There is not one thing that I do not like about this book. The hockey scenes are riveting, and frankly the best out there. The storyline is very engaging, and being on this journey with these two guys was emotional and rewarding.

Josh and Ryan always know how to reach me as a reader so that I feel I am on the bench next to ice, in the lockerroom or a fly on the wall with the characters they create. And what I like best is that we keep meetibg previous characters for more than a cameo.

This was a hot and hockey heavy mm romance about Mark and Blake who are the pranksters 'ice devils' of their hockey team. They have a snarky animosity, but through their pranks they bond and find there is more happening under the surface and become boyfriends whilst keeping the chirps going for their teammates.

Throughout the book their relationship develops and they both find their way to better communicate what they want and need from each other and realize it really is love. True to their writing style Mark and Blake have a sweet hea.

Josh & Ryan delivered another volume to their Barracuda hockey series and I am silently hoping for 'Gags' to have his story told next.

    For the audiobook:
Nick J. Russo brought the right amount of humour, care, love and heat in his narration of a book I really enjoyed reading and listening to. I can totally recommens this book and the ohters both in written and nareated form.

Mark and Blake seemed to hate each other things had been heated since Blake was drafted the year before . When he finds out Sako is the one behind all the pranks he thinks if you can’t beat them join them and so the Ice Devils are born . Really enjoyed the push and pull between Sako and Conti and it really was a fine line between love and hate .

Absolutely loved this whole series. Every character was truly unique. This book had everything, including the humour. I was laughing out loud reading about the pranks pulled on their fellow players - the taped skates and green goo was so funny. Hope there are going to be more books on these players.
