About the author

Writer. Editor. TEDx Speaker. Yes, Sonia Rao is all that and also a writing coach and an award-winning blogger.
She also has a Masters in Sociology (and often wonders what if she had done a Masters in Eng. Lit and then a PhD? Perhaps she'd have written academic papers that were understood even by non-academics). And her B.Sc. in Chemistry? The only chemistry she's used has been in etching jewellery in her stint as a jewellery designer, and between the main characters in the sweet romances that she writes nowadays.
But wait! She's also NaNoWriMo’s Municipal Liaison (ML) for all India as well as the founder of the Wrimo India group on Facebook. Sonia has motivated thousands of people in India to write a novel every November since 2011.
Her first romance novel "If You Let Me Go" was a finalist in Amazon KDP's Pen to Publish Contest 2020 while her short stories have been published in many prestigious anthologies. Sonia Rao herself has curated and edited two Wrimo India Anthologies, both of which (as well as all her own novels) are going to the Moon (yes, to the cool luminary in the sky) but that's a story for another day.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021An engrossing romance that kept me glued to my Kindle from the first page right to the last one. No doubt a chart-buster.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2021Sonia's Shivalika and VK are alive on the pages of this sweet romance. Sonia has woven magic and taken us to the most romantic place on earth - Paris, by painting the canvas with her words. Bubbly Shivalika and the cool VK are characters you will fall in love with. Creating an atmosphere of love, family, and a few doubts, the journey of these two lovers as they find each other will leave you spellbound.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2021Loved every bit of this book. Like any romance novel I used to read in my teens, I finished this one too in one go. Actually it surprised me because I had completely stopped enjoying romantic novels. I am still living in the world created by the author. The pace of the story is absolutely commendable. Cheers and Congratulations for weaving such a tender tale of Love!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2022Very juvenile view of adult relationship. The emotions remind me of how I felt at 15 years old. A bit unrealistic. I love HEA stories, but sorry, this one was very flat. Hard to get through; I had to skim most of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2021This was a sweet novel to read. I was anxious to see how the main characters would finally get together. Thank God for good friends.
Loved all the food and dress descriptions, and even the various locales. I've been to Paris before but now this book is making me reevaluate my impression of Paris and is making me want to put it back on the list, lol. A desire to visit India is another (good) side effect of the book. I also did enjoy the life lessons in this book. Remember the old saying about "assuming"? It definitely applies in this book. Thanks Sonia Rao for this sweet book

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read
The first thing I loved about this novel was it’s beautiful cover & there could not have been any other apt title for this story. It’s just so complements the plot.
“Romeo and Juliet is just another example of why communication within a relationship is so crucial.”
The theme of the story exudes the fact “Relationships cannot grow without communication. It is needed in all relationships, not just romantic ones.”
Sonia has beautifully weaved this theme & shown us
“When we take imp life decisions on temporary emotions, life may not be kind enough to give us a chance to fix up what we’ve broken.”
Shivalika is a talented interior designer at La Piazza a company which gets acquired by VK.
Since their first meeting, they felt attracted towards each other but VK was committed to Misha. Initially they both restricted themselves within professional limits but at last “The heart wants what it wants.”
They both acknowledged their feelings in their heart but failed to communicate.
Two people can be in the same relationship and yet see it in two different ways.
On one hand Shivalika assumed VK’s love for her as temporary & on the other hand VK didn’t express his emotions because of her vulnerable state of mind.
Shivalika built a fortress around herself & didn’t allow Vikram to confess his love. I loved the way her grandma played the Cupid’s role in uniting the both.
This is not a typical mushy office romance. Since La Piazza was into interiors, Sonia has well researched about basics of interiors designing while writing about decor of Mainland China, mention of Chihuly chandelier or description of Premiere Design du Salon at Paris.
Overall 5 star. Kudos to Soniya for a brilliant & impressive work 👍

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for fans of office romance
4.5/5
I am the lousiest person when it comes to updating reviews on Goodreads. I finished this book a week ago but got time to post the review just today.
This novella was a sweet office-billionaire-romance story that hit all the right notes. It had the correct measure of love, friendship, and heartbreak thrown in. I loved all the characterizations and also the descriptions of places, clothes, and makeup.
The narrative flowed smoothly. The chapters were short and engaging. The romance was picture-perfect. The only minus point was the mention of Shivalika's heart. Almost all the chapters had sentences dedicated to Shivalika's heart or heartbeats which were dampeners.
If you are looking for a lighthearted office romance, you can go for this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Average Read !!
'If You Let Me Go' was a nice average read for me. I picked it up because the blurb suggested it has an office romance trope, and I love reading stories with this trope 😊
When I started reading the book, I found it to be a little staid and boring. I was about to give it up, but then continued reading as the mid part became interesting. The climax was nice, but it felt very rushed, and the scenes before the climax felt a little disjointed. I felt that the story needed something more, to bring out the real emotions of the characters.
Whenever I read a romance novel, I like to connect with the characters, but I am sorry, I was unable to connect much with the main characters of VK and Shivalika 😔 They were nice characters, but I could not truly feel with them. I felt that the story was missing some vital scenes, especially about what VK was thinking through all the events taking place. I am sorry, but overall I felt that something integral was missing in this story 😔
I really liked Gramma's character though. Also my favourite part in the book was when VK takes care of Shivalika, after her parents had an accident, and he brings her back from Paris to her home. I loved reading that part in the story 😊
✖️ SPOILER ALERT ✖️
According to me, the plot had a small flaw. Shivalika is 14 when she witnesses her mom with the neighbour guy, she thinks they are having an affair and stops talking to her mother. Even at the age of 26, she thinks the same, and has a strained relationship with her mom, and has decided never to believe in love and marriage ever.
But, later we find out that the neighbour was forcing himself on her mother. They were not having an affair. And even her father knew about it. So why for 12 whole years, when they have all lived together, no one has tried to talk to Shivalika and clear her misunderstandings ?? Why did her mom or dad not clear her confusions, even when they knew everything, and saw that this incident had strained the relationship between mom and daughter ?? This was really baffling for me !! 😔
In conclusion, I would say that you can read this story once, it's good & it definitely had the potential to be great. I am looking forward to read more by the author ❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars sweet romance
The story is simple and sweet, and has a happy ending.
Shivalika, I could understand her aversion to love once I came to know her back story. I loved the characters especially Shivalika’s grandmother. Though she is a supporting character, but the role that she plays in the story is very interesting. The author has really developed the characters well. They are realistic and their conversations and hangups even more so.
The places, the food and the ambience has been described in detail, and it being a book on interior designers, it seemed so relevant. I loved the story. It has all the elements, family, friends, trust, tragedy and of course, career. The language is simple and the story is fast paced.
