About the author

A Grenadian transplant, Avril now lives in Tucker, GA, with a madly tolerant husband. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who’s pretty meh about reading and school. Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing the plot points of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother.
Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. She’s been nominated for numerous awards, including Best Author, Best series (Brooklyn Sinners), and Favorite All-Time Author. In 2013 Avril won Evernight Publishing’s Reader’s Choice Award for the LGBT (Male/Male) category. Recently she took home the Golden Ankh award for best Male/Male romance for her bestselling novel, Sinner’s Fall.
Addicted to cake, the ID Channel, and the UFC, Avril writes Gay and Erotic Romance with happy endings; she remains a believer of love in all its forms.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2020This book was so good. I loved the emotional storyline and the heat between the two MC’s. I only gave it 4 stars because I felt like it was missing the steamy bedroom scene.
Still a good read. Quick read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2021I knew this was a novella going into it. Tried preparing myself for just a taste of Av's awesomeness. But I was still upset when this quick read came to it's end. I just love her writing so much and get completely drawn in by her characters - their thoughts, their emotions, their struggles - that I get lost in the world she creates for us. If you have been living in a cave somewhere without wifi and have yet to discover the amazing talent of Avril Ashton until now then please read this story. You will not regret it. Then dive on in to her other works and enjoy the emotional rollercoasters, the angst, the friendships, bonds, and of course much more. Like the drool worthy sex scenes, I definitely needed to mention those 😘. Now I am off to read " In Dreams ..." Again!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2018So much potential. If this were a full-length novel, it could've been great.
I felt the hurt, the grief, the confusion and the guilt. But it wasn't enough. And little things didn't add up. One thing that really nagged at me: James couldn't seem to decide if he's grieving his dead husband, or that he can't have a relationship with his dead husband's son. I guess both?
And then for all their trouble - even though the story was building up to something passionate - we didn't even get a kiss other than the one at the beginning, that was "a mistake".
I was left feeling frustrated and unfulfilled.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2020Didnt know 60 pages could be so filled with angst and sweetness. Enjoyable mini read. Definitely leaves you wishing for a full novella.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2020Short but so good. This was definitely a short. Just as it was getting good the story ended. However I believe this couple makes an appearance In another book. Love this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2021Such a good short romance. The amazing thing is that it’s slow burn but even so the ending feels satisfying. I really enjoy reading Avril Ashton’s stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021This is a study in grief much like the book A Theme for a Reason. Ms. Ashton really knows loss and grief and regret.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2018I really liked this. There was a lot of story in under 50 pages. Avril Ashton is so good at conveying intense feelings of longing. All the confusion and guilt was so understandable, and when they got their HEA, it was all the sweeter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt, emotive short from AA.
I always look forward to Ms. Ashton’s books. Long or short they’re usually fairly angst-filled and feature flawed, emotionally-scarred anti-heroes who perhaps aren’t immediately likeable or their actions always admirable, but who nevertheless win over the reader’s heart. This may be a quickie read, but it’s a perfect example of this.
Both men are crippled with guilt and shame over their long-buried feelings for each other and what they feel is a deep betrayal of the man they loved. However, all of this, coupled with their shared grief and James’ ongoing depression over the loss of his husband were handled with the greatest sensitivity by the author, I felt, making it a poignant and entirely smut-free [unusual in itself for an AA tale] read that’s a million miles away from the usual stepcest stories that plague the m/m genre.
And the ever so slightly forbidden aspect of the leads’ relationship and tougher issues raised means this isn’t your typical hearts and flowers feel-good romance, in fact, it could even be unsettling for some, but I personally really enjoyed its honesty. And the romantic in me not only empathised with James and Nazir’s god-awful situation, but I also like to think that Clive kinda knew without really knowing that his husband and son shared a soul-deep connection - that went beyond the physical, and more importantly, was neither acted on or acknowledged whilst he was alive - and was almost giving his consent, knowing that after he was gone he’d want the two most important people in his life to be together and happy, instead of alone and miserable. Great read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great short read
For a very short read, this one still had enough depth to pull at your heartstrings. While I would have loved to see it a little longer, and see Nazir and James actually find their HEA, the promise was there. No hot scenes in this one (at all), but rather a focus on an emotional connection and unequivocal support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gorgeous read
I love everything Avril writes! I can't get enough and this story had enough suspense, love and sweetness to make it a perfect read! I wish there was more.
