About the author

Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.
Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.
Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.
Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2017First of all the book was clean. Second the story was cute, hero and heroine fairly consistent in their established personality, although I would have thought Isolde could of held up better against Alicia based on her background with weapons and following the drum. But I liked the story, it flowed well and kept my inherent. It was well written as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2017Sweet little story that I enjoyed very much, and am looking forward to continuing on with the series whose name intrigued me from the start: Brides by Chance.
Elizabeth Bailey writes with skill and humor, and I loved our h, Isolde, a rather unconventional heroine whose pluck and lack of familiarity with the polite world make her a charming heroine.
The story moves extremely quickly to its resolution; in fact it took me a bit by surprise. However, I recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2019When her father dies, Isolde travels to Bawdsey Grange to get the protection of an old family friend. However, she finds that the son, Richard de Baudresey, has never heard of her. He insists she needs to learn to take her place in society. Can Isolde become a lady?
Well. I wanted to love this. Isolde was fun and interesting to watch. I could understand why she resisted the strictures of society because she had grown up following the drum. It made sense for her to fight.
But I didn't. I feel like there was a good premise here, but it just wasn't presented well. I didn't like Richard at all. The romance came out of nowhere when it would have been nice to see it blossom. And Richard's sister...the explanation for her behavior made no sense.
For a clean Regency read, it isn't terrible. I just think it could have been so much better. I received a copy from NetGalley for reviewing purposes. All opinions expressed are my own.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2017Would have liked more to the story, but it was an enjoyable read. Violent for a regency. Interesting characters. I liked her other books better so far but I think all are worthwhile.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2016I was given a free ARC copy of this wonderful book in exchange for an honest review of it. I loved Isolde she was so feisty and unpretentious. I loved her character immensely. She sure was mistreated by Richard's sister. She reminded me of a jealous old bat. I'm glad she got kicked out. This was such an incredible story and if you haven't read it please get it and do so. I'm sure you'll like it. Starr
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2021I didn't care for this as I usually do with books by this author. It felt like it was written to wring all the shock and sadness out of the first 9/10ths of the book, leaving only a couple of pages at the conclusion for the "happy ending". Not worthy of Ms Bailey.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2020In Honour Bound was a nice and enjoyable read, but not anything extraordinary. The characters are real enough, but the ending was predictable. Isolde was a good character with an unique backstory that could have been great with a more original story. It was a quick and feel good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant read.
The homeless Isolde joins her guardian’s household and starts a new life not much of it to her taste. But at least the guardian is young, handsome and kind. Then business takes him away and her life takes a turn for the worse. Isolde decides to take care of herself and rides off to find her recently discovered relative. More difficulties. But all ends well. A pleasant read, background well lined in to facilitate story, an author to follow.
Purchased today, read on my iPad, now to bed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
I may be a sucker for a forlorn orphan story, but I much enjoyed reading this shortish read. Nicely told and written. After the death of her father, 17-year old Izzy shows up on Richard's doorstep without warning. Her soldier father raised her more as a boy than girl so she has much to learn...

5.0 out of 5 stars great story
Loved it! This was a clean, fun Regency romance that drew me in and made me care about the characters even when they did stupid things. Not quite Georgette Heyer level, but definitely still one to re-read - and pleasantly free of the blasphemy that bothers me in Heyer's work. Highly recommended.

a good story, evocative of a different time where being a lady is natural, unless, of course you followed the drum from an early age and fencing is more interesting than balancing a book on your head. but if you're an orphan and wish to impress your guardian, what can you do?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read
Very nice regency with good period feel, good plot, good dialogue & none of the egregious errors, poor grammar & typos that make so many books in this genre barely readable. A delightful little entertainment.
