An excerpt:
Inside of Me
I hear the echoes of a sound so far away
I just don’t understand a single word they say...
I move closer so that I can better hear,
But when I do they always disappear…
I see the traces of a picture I have dreamed
But when I looked it isn’t what it seemed
Cause every time I made the colors flow..
I’m left with nothing but an empty show
I looked and looked and there at last I found…
A wondrous place with lots of wondrous sound,
There I have found the truth that set me free…
It wasn’t far, it’s just inside of me.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2018Eeva Lancaster’s beautiful book of poetry provides a poignant portrayal of a young woman in love. It’s filled with passion, and it clearly comes straight from her heart.
As I read the poems, I was reminded of how I felt many years ago when I was starting out on my own path. Like the young woman in the poems, I too wanted to embrace love wholly and completely. The poems captured that feeling of desire that many of us have had, coupled with a crippling sense of always looking to the external for fulfillment.
The poems are also filled with that joyous bliss of being loved by someone who cares deeply. And even if the relationship in this case wasn’t able to succeed at the time, the love that was shared seemed to have lasting value and was never forgotten.
This book of poetry was so engaging that I read all of the poems in one sitting. They pulled me in and enabled me to journey along with the poet as she found a way to go beyond the heartbreak that she felt. I connected with the difficulties she encountered, yet I was buoyed up by her determination and courage. It was heartening to know that she continued searching for more of herself and succeeded in her quest.
As an added bonus, this intense and soul-seeking poetry book has a happy ending. Even if it took many years to manifest, the poet’s personal fairy tale of true love finally did come true.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2016Poetry is perhaps the most challenging genre to write. It challenges the reader, too, by asking you to take up residence in another person's memories, experiences, and emotions. In this poetry collection, Eeva Lancaster carries you along in a tumultuous romance, from the thrilling zing of first connection, through the pain of falling apart, and finally to an end of acceptance, of coming to know oneself. It's a familiar journey; we've all done it, in one way or another. With her focused, strong-written poem, Eeva is the reader's guide through this emotional journey.
All the better for knowing it has a happy ending!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2016I love poetry. Not that I am in any manner an expert – I read that which resonates with me. This did. Love found, love lost, looking back at a younger self and seeing how much one has changed and grown. This is Eeva’s story and I was so sad reading it, and also, conversely, loved how she put her feelings into verse. The best part, though, was the greater story surrounding this time in her life, and that made me so happy that all sadness washed away.
Thank you for sharing this, Eeva, and well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2015This is a poignant collection of poetry. The emotions, love, betrayal, pain, rebirth, are all painted with such honesty you can’t put it down. Well, maybe to grab a tissue now and then. However, where some poetry books show only the down side of love, this shows all sides of love. The passion, the heartache, the hope, the strength, the devastation, and the metamorphosis from young, immature love to a deep, strong, abiding love-filled relationship.
The last entry, The Journey, speaks to what is imperative if you are to have a true love relationship with another individual. You have to love yourself first. Kudos on sharing your journey with us, Eeva.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2018Eeva Lancaster has provided us with a beautiful book of 52 poems that are relationship experiences she has encountered, with someone she could never have. As she mentioned at the start of the book, “Publishing poetry is like asking people to read your words while you’re standing in front of them naked and vulnerable.” It does feel like you are looking into someone’s soul and witnessing their joy, sadness, loneliness, hope, despair and discovery.
I find it difficult to do a read through of similar thematic poems as you start to feel a little bit of déjà vu, and the impact can wane, so I’ve read this over a week. I found some of the poems a little bit like Valentine card verses, and I’m not a great lover of rhyming every line, because at some point you’re going to feel the word was coerced to be there and then the force of the poem disappears. Eeva does a great job of ensuring the lines of the poem aren’t just to deliver a rhyming last word and the cadence of each poem is spot on. It’s probably just my preference not to see rhyming on every line.
There are obviously some poems that I like better than others. “He Came Through” and “All Alone Again” were two I particularly liked, and they didn’t rhyme every line, but they did have a very touching message and that essence of capturing something soulful in a few special words. “Loving Hand”, “When Will the Heartache End?” and “The Journey” were all poems I absolutely loved. The poems became emotionally painful towards the end and I also felt the quality of the poems improved really well. Knowing that these poems were written over a longer period you can see that development and feel that emotional journey.
Overall the collection of poems delivered wonderful passionate content, vulnerability and emotional imagery. Thanks for sharing Eeva. I would highly recommend this book of poems.
