Take 1 wedding. Add fangs, fur, and fairy dust…stir.

A wedding phobic in a family of wedding planners… Alex Bennett’s life is complicated enough, until she discovers their clients aren’t exactly human. Paranormals exist, and when weddings are sabotaged, Alex will stop at nothing to save the business—even partnering with a sexy investigator with secrets of his own.

A paranormal with no powers… Devin Cole is guilty until proven innocent. His powers have been placed in a supernatural time out until his upcoming trial. He doesn’t have time to investigate a runaway bride case. But the bride is a supermodel who also happens to be supernatural, so he has to handle damage control. His biggest concern—a tempting woman who insists on being part of the investigation.

Can a wedding phobic and a powerless paranormal work together to solve the case while finding their own fairy-tale…or faery-tale…happy ever after?

I loved AE Jones’s Mindsweeper series, the first book of which was nominated for the prestigious Romance Writers of America Rita Award for Best First Book as well as for the Best Paranormal Romance. Now I’m happy to report she’s done it again—created a brand new world of characters and a book you can’t put down. I mean, how can you even say paranormal wedding planners and not chuckle hysterically?

Alex Bennett has a problem. She works for her grandmother’s high-end wedding planning business but she’s got a huge phobia of weddings after being ditched at the altar. There’s tension between her and her grandmother after Alex’s forced two-year absence from the business. Worse, during a routine wedding, Alex witnesses a shocking event that reveals to her that paranormal creatures not only exist but are a big part of the wedding planning business—and her life. Way big, as she discovers the business is being sabotaged by paranormal creatures.

Bad goes to worse as a big hunky alpha male investigator Devin Cole shows up to figure out who’s behind the sabotage. He’s annoying, bossy, and pushes her every button, especially the smoking hot guy ones. Devin is just as annoyed with Alex but also very attracted to her. But he’s tortured by an incident where his ex-girlfriend as well as his brother were killed, and he’s paranormal himself…except he’s been stripped of his powers before his big hearing before his upcoming trial. This blend of self-torture he endures is enough to keep him away from Alex…or at least try to.

Devin’s team of paranormal investigators is a hoot, including the techie guy named Gizmo, two hot twin brothers, a gorgeous cowboy, and a loudly protesting cat named Monster. Each chapter has laugh-out-loud headings about wedding planning that are clever and funny.

Watching these two main characters who have tons of heart grow and change is a pleasure as they struggle toward their happily-ever-after…as well as encounter an interesting world of supernatural supremacists who want to stop human-supernatural pairings at any cost. The riveting conclusion kept me up late and had plenty of twists and turns. Plus, the book has an overall message of tolerance that’s subtly wound in among the action.

Loved this book, can’t wait for the next!

This was a reasonably entertaining read. The Heroine wasn't all that likeable, but I've read worse. It was basically a romance with a little supernatural. There was, at least, a varied group of supernatural species. I wasn't driven to read it straight through like I would if I was totally involved with the plotline, but it was certainly a decent read.

I am rounding my 3-1/2 stars up to 4, because it was a complete HEA without a cliffhanger for this particular relationship. The next book, according to the teaser at the end of this book, will be about this main character's best friend.

I may check out the next book.

This one involves family secrets, company secrets and espionage, and interspecies politics. There are mundane humans, faeries, elves, weres, and all sorts of simian plots. This was a fun read. On to the next adventure.

In Sickness and in Elf is a fast-paced romp about a wedding-phobic wedding planner who returns to work after being jilted to discover that her grandmother's wedding lanning business does a lot of work for the supernatural community (which she never new existed). Not only that, but someone is sabotaging those paranormal weddings, in ever more dangerous and destructive ways, for reasons unknown. She quickly pairs up with an elf (think Lord of the Rings, not shoemakers and Santa) to solve the mystery and quickly becomes embroiled in a life-and-death struggle to stop the mayhem before it destroys Grandma's life's work. Alex is a relatable, likeable heroine and Devin is the hottest elf since Legolas.

My favorite thing about In Sickness and in Elf was the almost endless supply of demons Ms. Jones managed to come up with, including an anura demon/horny dentist who hits on Alex when she goes off to investigate on her own.

Ms. Jones' writing style is strong and readable, as her 2013 Golden Heart win for an earlier book attests.

    A fun read!

I love the wit and humor of AE Jones's books and this one did not disappoint. The wedding planner theme isn't new, but wedding planner to paranormal entities produces outrageous story complications that had me laughing, on the edge of my seat and thoroughly enjoying.

The heroine is a mortal wedding-phobe as a result of being jilted at the altar. The hero has had his powers taken away and is awaiting his trial to find out if they'll ever be returned. She thinks he's mortal--he's trying to keep her from getting killed while they try to find out who's sabotaging paranormal weddings and why. Fun, sexy and full of surprises--In Sickness and In Elf is my favorite paranormal romances this year!

I really enjoyed this story. It is one of the first fantasy style books that I've read and it has given me a real buzz for wanting my of the fantasy world. The story line had me guessing along but I guessed wrong so it was very well written. There was definitely something I wasn't expecting that made shout no way out loud. Would definitely recommend.

I did enjoy most of this book, not totally sure why, I guess it was a bit of light hearted mystery fun. While it was clean there are rude, crude and suggestive parts in it, so ‘clean’ readers beware.
