Indianapolis Justice (Gamble on Judgment Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 51 ratings

Harry Bradford’s and Stella Schoenfeld’s story continues in Indianapolis Justice.

Now that Stella Schoenfeld has been reunited with her brother, Nathan, she returns to their home city of Indianapolis. Much to her chagrin, Nathan is transported home as Harry Bradford’s prisoner. While still in Abilene, she felt drawn to the part-time lawyer, part-time detective—a man many called a bounty hunter. However, now she knows Harry’s purpose for finding Nathan was not so she could convince her brother to settle their father’s estate, but so Harry could collect the reward for Nathan’s return, can she trust him? Even if Harry’s true motive is to eventually clear Nathan’s name, with the case against her brother built upon half-truths and outright lies, is hers and Nathan’s attorney, Abraham Smith—even with Harry’s promised help—capable of achieving justice for Nathan?

Because of the gruesome scars he bears on half his face as a result of being on the steamboat
Sultana when the boilers exploded, Harry Bradford has resigned himself to having no connection with women other than to represent them on legal matters. As much as he longs to grow closer to Stella, it is his own grudge against the man who attacked and disfigured her that motivates him to take the biggest gamble of his life. He knows the murder charges against Nathan, who only sought to protect his sister, are false. He plans to use the reward money for turning Nathan in to cover his expenses while he stays in Indianapolis and assists the Schoenfelds’ attorney.

Much to his dismay, Harry learns that, due to age and declining health, Mr. Smith no longer handles court cases. Once it is determined the Schoenfeld assets are tied up in probate, the chief judge in Indianapolis steps in. Dismissing Harry’s concerns, he orders Harry to become Nathan’s court-appointed attorney. The Smith grandson, young Abe, agrees to serve as Harry's law clerk.

During the trial, a startling secret is revealed. After the gossips and newspaper accounts sensationalize her situation, dare Stella ever again show her face in Indianapolis?

While Harry, Stella, and Nathan face the judgment of public opinion, Harry must set aside his own resentments to fight for justice. Can he clear Nathan of the false murder charges? Can Harry gain freedom for his client without losing his heart to Stella?

Although this is a sweet romance, there is a scene telling of a sexually violent act, which is not described in detail.

I was so excited to start this second book in the series to see what happened with Harry & Stella!

Harry has helped Stella find her brother, Nathan, but is it for the same reasons she has? They return to Indianapolis, where Stella now hopes to settle their deceased father's estate. But Harry gets the reward for bringing Nathan in, where he was wanted by the law.

Harry needs the reward money to help defend Nathan, because the siblings local attorney is in poor health and cannot help. The question is, can Harry really convince everyone that her brother is innocent?

Unfortunately, the journey is bumpy and secrets come to light. What will happen? Can Harry let his feelings for Stella come to fruition? Love, love this series!!

Book two in this series does not disappoint! (not that I thought it would)
We know Harry has located Nathan for Stella, so she could settle her father's estate. He also plans to collect the reward money for bringing Nathan back to Indianapolis, to stand trial for murder. As a lawyer, still in good standing in Indiana, he'll need that to defend Nathan. It's going to be a tough case, the lies and half truths have him all but convicted!
There are a lot of twists here and some ugly things come about. These things kept the pages turning, I had to know the answers, and also find out if Harry and Stella will have their chance at love. Pick up your copy to find out, you will not be disappointed!!

Keeping tension running as well as making several romantic moments & sprinkling a good amount of humor is part of what made this a great book, but I also found that following the court proceedings written here both fascinating & satisfying!

Abilene Gamble left me hungry for more information about Stella, Harry and Nathan's journey to clear Nathan's name and see Stella and Harry's love story unfold. This book gave us the details and was every bit as good as the first book! Ms. Abbot makes sure there is never a dull moment in her books and I'm hoping there will be more books from her very soon.

Book 2 of gamblingon judgement. The scars caused people to whisper and fear them and they were not well received. Yet working together and with lots of help from witnesses they found the answers to solve the mystery and give them peace.

I enjoyed this book! The characters were wonderful! The story was captivating and hard to put down! This book is the second in the Gamble on Justice series. I suggest reading the first book in the series before reading this book. I highly recommend reading this book!

This is Book #2 of the Gamble on Judgment Series, and is the continuation of Stella and Henry's story from Abilene Gamble. While it can be read alone, it will be more enjoyable if you have read Abilene Gamble. The author has done a wonderful job of tying the two stories together. Stella had traveled to Abilene to find her brother Nathan in order to settle their father's estate. Henry had also traveled to Abilene and was acting as a part time attorney, part time detective and bounty hunter. Both Stella and Henry had suffered severe facial scaring as a result of a tragedy in each of their lives. Henry agrees to assist Stella in attempting to find her brother. As it turns out, once Nathan is located, an undisclosed secret is revealed. Indianapolis Justice is a story of secrets, hurts, misrepresentation, false accusations, gossip, attempted murder, distrust, a trial and romance. When Henry is appointed by a judge to represent Nathan in his attempted murder trial, Stella wonders if she can really trust him to free her brother after his deceit. Will Nathan be able to put aside his self-doubts and allow himself to accept his romantic feelings for Stella? Will Stella ever be able to trust Henry? Will Nathan be freed of all criminal charges against him? Will both Henry and Stella be able to move beyond their physical, mental and emotional scarring? Be sure and read this wonderful story to find out. It is a real page turner, and very well may be one of those stories you will want to re-read.
