Independents: Taoree Trilogy #2 Kindle Edition
The world has lost so many, and now that we’ve lost one of our own, I don’t know how to keep going. I don’t know how to protect them anymore. But I need to stay strong, I need to keep fighting because I would rather die than let another one of my family members get hurt.
We need to get to the Taoree Independents camp in order to save my brother. Supposedly they can protect us from all the turmoil, and they have tools to help Wes… or at least that’s what Orrean says. He also says that they want to fight back, but I don’t see how we could ever fight back against all of the monsters that have taken over our world.
Put yourself in my shoes and tell me there’s a better way. Tell me there’s a better option to save my brother, to keep my family safe. If you made it to that camp, would you just cower and hide, or would you stand up and fight back?
Independents is Book Two in The Taoree Trilogy and is meant to be read as part of a series. This book ends on a cliffhanger, but there is a promise of a happy ending at the end of the COMPLETED trilogy.
***WARNING: This book is recommended for ADULTS ONLY. It is rather gruesome, so if you don’t like violence, death, blood, and the like, don’t read it. There’s also lots of cursing, ya know, ‘cause it’s the end of the world and all. This is a MM post-apocalyptic story with a romantic subplot… and sometimes one partner is not of the human variety.***

About the author

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.
She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2021This is such a beautifully written sci-fi/fantasy mash-up! The author has a gift for world building and for character development. The second in a trilogy that must be read in order because they take off right where the previous one left us. It would have been agony (but worth it) to have waited when these came out 4 years ago. The relationship between these Taoree and humans fight on the side of the Independents absolutely stun me in their vulnerability and the strength they have to continue when every moment seems a struggle is powerful.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2019I loved this book more than the first! It had plenty of angst with much of the focus on Jeremy and Orrean’s developing relationship but there was less struggling for survival since they were in the Independent base. Sometimes Jeremy frustrated me but with all the upheaval in his life and the loss in the first book, I understood. I’m starting the 3rd book right away!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2023So good. As good if not better as book 1. How many emotions can feel when reading a book? All of them….all of them.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2018This story catches your breath and you definitively dont want it to stop ! The love story makes you cry, laugh and hot at the same time and it's not dork. Just read it ! Really good one !
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2018Can you say cliff hanger? I have to down load the next book now. Who lives. Who dies. No more time to review the past. I have to know now!!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2017Great 2nd installment for this series! Jeremy finally starts to pull his head out of his butt and accept Orrean. There's fighting and zombie type people. And other surprises I won't spoil :) But that ending! Can't wait for book 3!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2022This has less action and more drama and angst than the first book. Orrean is so sweet and lonely and, although I understood where Jeremy was coming from, he was terrible to Orrean; I felt so bad for him. Tension is high and horrible people are horrible. There is a mole and so trust is questionable. The cliffhanger is a doozy so be sure to have time for the last book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2018I absolutely cannot wait for T3! I’ve been left on the precipice of a huge cliff not knowing what’s going to happen! The anxiety! The fear! The feelings for these characters! Oh my gosh! Must. Read. More. Ahhh!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow
This series is amazing! I have been pulled into the lives of each of these hero’s and I don’t want to let go. Wonderfully written. Can’t wait to see how it all ends, but yet I don’t want it to end at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 2. Buy it!!
Part 2 and you MUST read part 1 first. Seriously. This book takes off where part 1 ends. Ok. So now we’ve got that out of the way...this is yet again another example Michele’s amazing imagination. We’re still embroiled in the rebellion but the romance has changed, evolved and oh, all the feelings that go with it. I cannot wait for the final instalment. Buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The amazing series continues!
Just Wow! This series goes from strength to strength! It captured me from the start, and didn't let go - not even at the end! The synopsis warned of a cliffhanger in this one, and holy hell am I glad the final book is out already because it's a doozy!
Jeremy continued to struggle in this book - and I really empathised with him! He lost Colt just after finding him, and knows he loved him, but feels the undeniable connection with Orrean. He then feels guilty for seemingly being able to move past Colt so quickly, and doesn't like what their Balu connection means to Colt's memory. While he was very stubborn with it, I do understand why and I'm actually glad he took the time to get to know Orrean as friends while he moved past his grief - as hard as that was on Orrean. It would have been worse if he'd entered into the relationship and still harboured guilt and resentment.
The storyline continued well, and as mentioned ended on an epic cliffhanger. After a massive ambush, we don't know who is alive or dead out of Jeremy's friends/family unit.
I would definitely recommend this series, and can't wait to read the final book - in fact I'm off to do that right now!
