- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024Format: KindleWhen people look for cures for insomnia, they generally look for techniques, some secret sound, music, pillow, or activity which will finally provide them with the cure they so desperately seek .
While it is not likely the specific techniques presented in this book will provide long term success, Mr. Grandhi is to be congratulated for conveying the ultimate cure for insomnia - letting go of control.
When mindfulness is applied to insomnia, this secret is generally referred to though not always well taught. To simply be present to one's experience, letting go of all thought or tension regarding sleep, accepting one's current state, is the key.
Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, effortless mindfulness and yoga nidra actually to provide (when understood correctly) means of assisting you in letting go of control. However, absent these, the message in "My Sleepless Nights" of the fundamental importance of letting go of the attempts to control one's sleep is a good and helpful one.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021Format: KindleThis book is an in-depth journal of the author's struggles with insomnia and his methods for overcoming it. Most of the material is very specific and very practical, so it's much more of a reference book than a memoir. He covers a lot of modern techniques and lists sources online that he used to deal with insomnia.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2021Format: KindleI really love the personal touch shared by the author. Sleep issues are often neglected and brushed under the carpet. This book bolds discusses the importance of sleep and also discusses the ways to set sleep back to normal.
I love the way conversations with the psychologist has been described. The way simple and small stories have been added is really commendable. I would recommend this book to everyone because the solutions in this book are really presented with scientific research and have spiritual touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful self-help book for the sleep deprived!
Loved reading “My Sleepless Nights- A story of victory over insomnia “ Especially all the anecdotes given , stories with analogies and scientific explanations!!
The fact that “more you get obsessed with a thought or fear or pain , the more your brain familiarises with it and harder it becomes to overcome that obsession “ this particular aspect was so well explained by the author in the book with neuroscience, humour and real life examples, the content and context of this book can easily be defined outstanding for self-help !
It’s a must read for anyone who feels sleep deprived!

4.0 out of 5 stars A quick, concise and super relatable book about overcoming sleep!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMy Sleepless nights takes us on a journey from a sleepless night to another through anxiety, failure and redemption of the author over the sleep that eluded him and his insights and learnings that he picked up over time.
This is a book that anyone who has had a few sleepless nights can relate to. This book talks about the author trying out different avenues to befriend sleep. And he didn't give up, and all he did was persist, and keep trying different things until he found a few practises that stuck.
This is a book that brings most of the knowledge about sleep into a story and a 62-page book. It is just enough for anyone who wishes to understand about Sleep, to begin with.
The language was easy for anyone to read and the fluidity made it easier for me to keep a track of everything and immerse myself in the book
There were a few digressions from the flow though, most of them welcome, but a few just felt out of place and I felt those could be assimilated in the book a little better. But, in the end, it was a wholesome read
This book to me was more about hope and perseverance than about sleep. As someone who had really erratic sleep schedules and has found a balance today, this is a book I really could've read back then. This book would've given me hope that it was fine to fail trying to get my system right. There's just something else to try out, ask for help if needed and things (mostly) should fall in place!
**What I really liked about the book:** I really liked the journey of Manohar, and his never-give-up attitude and transformation over time learning from every stage of his ordeal!
I really loved how immense knowledge was condensed into such a short format which anyone can pick up and understand. This is a book with something of value on every page
**What I didn't like about the book:** There were a few parts of the book that didn't quite feel as though they were a part of the book. Being a short book I was immersed in it but then these parts got me out of the zone.

Various studies worldwide have shown the prevalence of insomnia in 10%–30% of the population, some even as high as 50%–60%. It is common in older adults, females, and people with medical and mental ill health.
In his Book "My Sleepless Nights" Author shares his story of how he overcome Insomnia by some scientific and conventional methods. Each chapter of this Book is embedded with practical wisdom coupled with author's own experience of dealing with issue.Even those who are not suffering from insomnia are advised to go through this Book for the mental delight it offers.
In Author's word "If a single person overcomes insomnia after reading this book, I will consider my effort a success." Author's description of Sympathetic Nervous System and Parasympathetic Nervous System is just awesome. The Book also emphasises the importance of Meditation in dealing with the issue , he goes on to narrate some of well tested techniques in dealing with the disease. Some of the wisdom words from this Book are:
1)Dopamine is a neurotransmitter released by the brain when it expects a reward or pleasure. I was getting this dopamine release by completing the book every alternate day.
2) Have you ever wondered why we have a timetable at school? This is to create our routine for the brain. A sleep routine helps as it creates a familiar pattern as explained in the Neuroscience chapter. Pavlov a Russian physiologist conducted an experiment. He created conditioning in the dog's salivation. Pavlov designed an experiment using a bell as a neutral stimulus. Before he gave food to the dogs, he rang the bell. Then, after repeating this procedure for many days, hearing the bell would increase salivation in the dogs. The result of the experiment was a new conditioned response in the dogs. Once a familiar pattern is created the brain focuses on walking the same path again.
3) Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin by mistake. Fleming was searching for a wonder drug that could cure diseases. Every evening before he left his work, he cleaned the dishes. One day, he was going on a vacation and he did not clean the dishes. On his return to work, he was cursing himself for not having them cleaned. But to his surprise, he noticed that around the area of invading fungus, bacteria did not grow. He thus discovered the antibiotic “Penicillin” that has cured millions of people of various illnesses. So, never be too critical of a mistake. This can be a blessing in disguise.
A well researched work!! Looking forward to read more from Author.
