Suppose Elizabeth Bennet never visited Pemberley…

It is October of 1812. Elizabeth Bennet and her family have seen dramatic changes in the past few months—none of them welcome. Her sister Jane needs a fresh start, and Elizabeth is no less eager to leave behind the pain and confusion of not accepting Mr. Darcy’s proposal.

Fitzwilliam Darcy has not seen Elizabeth since he offered for her—and she adamantly refused him. When she appears in London, he is determined to gain her friendship and make amends. When a carriage mishap throws them together, Darcy does all he can to demonstrate his changed behavior.

Though their renewed acquaintance seems to be growing into a genuine friendship, a family secret constrains Elizabeth. As she falls deeper in love with the man she rejected, does she dare tell him the truth?

This is one of the most delightful and exemplary variations I’ve read so far. Short but satisfactory, catered to JAFF readers who constantly need their dose of Pride and Prejudice but do not have the luxury of time. Focuses on the beloved couple and their love affair, yet gives some significance to the development and improvement of many secondary characters: Bingley finally develops a backbone, Jane proves to be steadfast and forgiving, Mrs. Bennet’s behavior and impropriety becomes a test to the Darcys’ tolerance and patience (hence her merit), and Georgiana Darcy is surprisingly mature and strong in this story, which is a pleasant change. What is most remarkable is that whatever circumstance Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet find each other: may they be thrown together by a carriage breakdown/fate or by purpose/design, one feels the inevitable of their happy ending. Love truly conquers the negative emotions that lovers feels (hate/anger/indecision/anxieties) and the passage of time. If it’s meant to be, it will be.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is quite a commendable character here, much improved than most variations. He is expressively honest towards the end which results in exchanges which are endearing and swoon-worthy. No wonder Elizabeth responded the way she did when he asked, “Am I welcome?” The way Elizabeth realizes her love for the gentleman she previously rejected and the way she suffered from her regrets are heart-tugging and memorable. Also, there are these sweet and emotional exchanges between the Darcy siblings which are quite remarkable and hardly depicted in other variations.

Finally, this is one is well-written and concise. Everything fits and important, and no words are wasted. Highly recommended!!!

Lydia tries to elope and is married off quickly to Wickham. Elizabeth and Jane go to London to make a fresh start, knowing they might be ruined if Lydia’s story comes out. They meet Bingley, who takes action for once to court Jane. Darcy tries with Elizabeth but she’s too embarrassed to tell him about Lydia. Georgiana is a delight and the romance is cute. The length of the book was good, though I felt the end was a little rushed. But I enjoyed it, a lovely low angst read

“Interrupted Plans” is the first book that I’ve read by Brigid Huey, and I enjoyed it very much. Things happened differently than they did in the P&P Canon, and that’s what makes it interesting. Mr. Darcy still interfered with Bingley and Jane’s courtship, and they meet again without his influence because Jane and Elizabeth are in London staying with the Gardiners. Why? You find out later that Lydia tried to elope with Wickham, and while stopped, it was still thought best that they would marry. Elizabeth knows that Darcy would do anything to separate Bingley and Jane if he knew that his best friend would become related to Wickham, so Lizzy and Jane both guiltily hesitate to inform them.

Much happens as Darcy and his sister begin their journey to Pemberly while the Gardiners and their nieces begin their journey to the Lakes District. Do you think they’ll meet on the way? Might Lizzy find another romantic interest? Read the book!

But back to Jane and Lizzy’s hesitation in informing Darcy and Bindley about Wickham. Will they inform them both? What do you think, with them both being women of integrity? Actually, Caroline Bingley comes to the rescue and spills the beans herself, but it doesn’t work out well for her. In the end, the question is, what will Bingley and Darcy do with that knowledge? You can imagine, but it’s a good read in finding out what happens in the end.

I enjoyed the variation of this book. The author took a premise and presented a totally different story. Everyone still got their HEA, but in refreshing change. It was low angst and more along the lines of true trouble. Most troubles being uncertainties. Excellent and enjoyable reading.

Darcy and Elizabeth are surprised to see the other at a ball in London- long after the Hunsford proposal. They both have feelings for one another but they doubt their feelings are returned. Darcy and Elizabeth manage to come across one another numerous times, allowing Darcy to show how he has improved since Kent and Elizabeth is able to show Darcy that she doesn't hate him.
Darcy and Elizabeth doesn't come to an understanding until the end of the book, but it's sweet. I liked Darcy and Elizabeth in this book.
-Plenty of Darcy and Elizabeth screen time
    -A dash of Caroline
    -No Collins
    -No Lady Catherine
    -Lydia and Wickham are mentioned
    All pluses in my opinion.

Simpatica novella Austin esca, I cui personaggi sono ben ritagliati e simili a quelli di P&P. La storia non si discosta molto dall'originale, fatta eccezione per alcuni punti, che non vengono particolarmente considerati.

The story has no villains and minimal angst- whatever angst there is due to insecurities and self doubts.
The story starts six months after Hunsford, the separation has tempered away his pride and her prejudices leaving both Darcy and Elizabeth with regrets.. and when they first meet in London Elizabeth is all ready to fall in love and Darcy all over again.. and promptly do so :)
There is lot of ODC time together and sweet interactions.. making this an interesting story. My only quibble was that in the absence of any real impediment it felt as if Darcy was dragging his feet unnecessarily ...for far too long even though story span was less than 2 months !Still I enjoyed the story a lot
As an aside though am no expert I feel it should be Misses Bennet and not Miss Bennets as has been used in the story quite a few times

Noticeably well edited and composed. The wicked Wickham was left to the side lines where he belongs. I enjoyed the twist that Darcy was not directly responsible of initiating the reconnection of Charles and Jane. I personally would have chosen the name Wessex differently, because the name implies that he belongs to the peerage. But then again, his castle in Scotland implies the same (at least in those time).
