Jennifer Gilmour is an author and advocate for women escaping abuse, using her own experiences of domestic abuse as a catalyst to bring awareness and to help others. Jennifer has published two publications, Isolation Junction and Clipped Wings which have both been Amazon Best Sellers and received awards. Jennifer speaks at events across the UK and continues to raise awareness through her blog posts, public speaking, radio interviews and social media.

Jennifer has listened to her readers and has grown a digital community to support discussions around domestic abuse online. Starting with her Twitter Chat which opened late 2017 #AbuseTalk, this developed into an online forum in 2018. In 2019, Jennifer launched a podcast which include interviews with those in the sector and gives followers the opportunity to ask burning questions.

    "Isolation Junction" - Breaking free from the isolation of emotional abuse - written by Jennifer Gilmore is a sensitive and interesting story about an abused woman in an unhappy marriage. I appreciate that this book may be very hard to read for some people but I found it very informative and imagine it would give a lot of confidence and support to women who maybe in the same situation, to help them seek help and not be afraid. It is obvious an awful lot of research and self experience has been included in this book. It's very well written, Jennifer is extremely talented to have written such a challenging book with such sensitivity and sympathy - and to convey the confidence that there is help out there for women in abusive relationships!
    Emotional, heartwarming and at times disturbing I highly recommend this superb book and wish the author every success with such an excellent book.

    Omg. The whole time I was so angered at Darren i wanted to reach through the book and beat the crap out of him. I really enjoyed this when it wasn't awful parts. I almost cried at the end with the happy ending part. I was joyed with how everything ended. This hit home because I was mentally and psychologically abused by my son's father before he was born.

    Isolation Junction deals with a domestic abuse story that is semi-autobiographical for the author, therefore I can’t say that I ‘enjoyed’ this book. It gives you an inside feel of what a woman who is going through an abusive situation like this experiences. Not all abuse is physical, it can also be emotional. A woman who is in a situation like this might not even realize it at first.

    This is Jennifer Gilmour’s debut novel and though it is short, it is an important one. She lives in the UK and is an advocate for both women and men who are in abusive relationships. She takes what was a mix of hers and other’s stories and creates the fictional Rose in Isolation Junction.

    Isolation Junction did have a slower start for me but then it picked up. I think part of it was Jennifer’s writing style. It is written in two styles within the chapters: Rose’s current point of view and her life in the abusive relationship as memories. The chapters go back and forth in time and are separated with *** so you can pick up that you are about to change again. It was a little hard for me to follow at first. Once I got the feeling of the writing style I found myself not wanting to stop reading it.

    You can feel the raw emotion that Jennifer put into writing this novel. Her whole heart and soul is wanting to help people in these situations. Isolation Junction must have been a very difficult one to write because at times it was difficult to read. As I was reading it, I was picturing Jennifer in Rose’s situation.

    You can’t help but root for Rose and want her to get away successfully and move on with her life. It is a book that should be read by everyone to help get awareness out there for the many forms that domestic abuse can take. This novel could also help someone who is in this type of situation become aware and realize that even if they don’t think they can, there is hope and help.

    Isolation Junction is Recommended.

    This is a very powerful book. Jennifer Gilmour is a courageous, brave woman who took a great risk when writing this book. She compiled real-life experiences of herself and others, making this book a learning experience for all to read.

    The book follows the story of Rose, a mother of two young children. She is married to Darren who, over the years of their marriage, slowly takes over her life and completely controls her every move. The abuse starts out as relatively minor…slowly isolating Rose from her family and friends that at the point it becomes almost unbearable, she has no one to turn to. The only people left are her two very young children, her wills to live.

    This book is an emotional eye-opener. It allows the reader to experience first-hand what it’s like to be in this sort of relationship. I’ve read books that focus on abusive relationships before, but this one is different. It doesn’t involve the big escape, the happy ending, and the female lead living the dream. It’s the true depiction of the struggles and barriers a victim has to go through while trying to escape. This is after years of abuse, years of denial that she’s a victim and isn’t deserving, and with the abuser being manipulative in nature.

    I found myself sympathizing with Rose, rooting for her, and willing for her strength to pull her through. While not the typical strong female, she is a character that is very real, and one I think most people can identify with.

    It was my absolute honor to take part in a blog tour to help bring much-needed awareness to domestic violence. If this book can help just one person, then my role as a blogger has been fulfilled.

    So well written and unfortunately so close to my own experiences. Amazing read though I could not put it down. Thank you to the author for working to highlight domestic abuse in todays society and working to try and support victims in what ever step of their journey. Reading the book gives a real insight to the life lived by so many and why the need for change, in removing the stigma, education and support networks. Support is severely lacking and more funding needs to be provided to support the vulnerable people this affects. I can not recommend this book enough and I will be continuing to read the authors other books and supporting her in the work she is doing to support others.

    This book is a page turner. I couldn‘t stop reading. As a survivor of DA I can relate so much to the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has to deal with DA and professionals who support survivors. Teachers as well. Well - anybody who works with families/children/teenagers.

    Jennifer, the author tells us what happens behind closed doors. Abusive relationships are real and Rose is living one. Like many young woman, Rose did not heed her parents’ advice when she married Darren, but his behaviour cannot be excused. He slowly takes away Rose’s freedom, leaving her lacking confidence in herself and with no one to turn to… until she found Tim.

    Rose is torn between leaving Darren and possibly her children or staying in the same decaying relationship. This book portrays the reality of domestic abuse and the hard choice a mother faces. I enjoyed reading this book and I admire the author for getting her story out there.

    Rose's journey of domestic abuse from the first very subtle changes to awful violence, it's flows really well from start to finish and you can't help going along with Jennifer at every stage. It is inconceivable to me that anyone should go through this and it's impossible to not get drawn in with what is happening to her.

    Jennifer covers ever angle of the abuse Rose suffered and though it may be uncomfortable reading for some it is necessary to get the message out of what happens, it's all well and good people saying why don't you get out, but until you see through the eyes of someone who has suffered domestic abuse, when all their fight has left them and they are at rock bottom and they have nowhere else to turn, you can see why they stay.

    Jennifer portrays this so well throughout the book.

    it has kind of left me wanting a follow up though.

    Harrowing & heartbreaking reading in parts, especially the hurt & neglect of the children. Totally could relate to her powerlessness & self doubt.
    Didn’t like the Mushy stuff towards the end, even though it buffered the reality of domestic abuse being real.
    The book was ruined by the amount of mistakes in sentence structure , typo’s & missed words, really annoying. At one point I checked it wasn’t a translation.
    Great effort to get across a real living nightmare but should’ve kept it there instead of moving into the realms of Danielle Steele.
