Claire Highton-Stevenson is a British Indie author. She writes heartwarming, Sapphic romance in contemporary settings. Claire's characters are bold, strong, independent women who love women.

However, she is also known to throw in a mystery or two. Claire likes to move around the tropes at will, and will often bend the rules to create exciting and often unique situations. She's not afraid to tackle darker topics either.

Claire Highton-Stevenson writes witty dialogue, creates believable characters, and makes me want to visit her part of the world. Gabby and Sal are best friends forever, yin and yang, two peas in a pod, read each other like a good book you have to keep and...have no clue they are in love with each other. The secondary characters, their students, want to see Gabby & Sal have a happy ever after. The writing is tight, not too wordy, and weaves a good romantic Christmas comedy. I enjoyed the read and it won't disappoint anyone who reads it.

For this to be a novela, it certainly didn’t leave any holes nor rushed the story of these two friends to lovers tale. This type of trope usually feels me with so much angst. This friends to lovers isn’t the type that met in middle/highschool and then something tore them apart. This one is about two adults that met and became fast friends. They were very close. They worked together, spent time with each others family, and spent most of their free time together as well. They both had relationships at the same time that separated them and both fizzled out within 5 years bringing them right back together.

This love between them probably could have happened from first meet, but somehow they didn’t go down that route and neither really knew why, but settled into a friendship. A very close one that was highly physical (not sexual) and you start to see that closeness get even closer unbeknownst to them. We first saw it with Sal the first night at the club. Then we saw it with Gabby the second time at the club together. They were each others biggest fan and loved spending time with each other. They shared that space together so well. It seemed only natural.

I’m glad they will get a HEA. I just wished we could have seen or witnessed their first sexual encounter at least. This was a strictly PG story. No erotica here. Not even once. But I still felt fulfilled though.

I’ve been best friends with my best Forbes for forty years and there is no one that knows me better than her. She can say the same. We’ve been best-friends since we were 12. I’m bi and she’s totally straight. She would be soulmate for sure, in a heartbeat. We’re the same age and was born 11 days apart in the same month and year.

This is a very entertaining friends to lovers story. Sally and Gabby are so close they can't see that they're perfect for each other. The students and Gabby's brother are great supporting characters. Derek finally has to tell both Sally and Gabby that it's time to take a chance. This book was a lot of fun to read.

Combine the wholesome meddling of high school students, two clueless best friends, and you get this holiday treat. It was a great book. I wish there were more interracial lesbian books like this.

This is a fun story of 2 woman that genuinely love one another. No upsetting drama, no angst just honest love. READ at this book and after you finish it read the rest of Claire’s catalogue !

The book is quite nicely written and I enjoyed reading it but the ending was too abrupt. They kissed and decided to give them a chance at a relationship and then.... that’s it. Would be nice to have a little more on the relationship.

Shopping with the best friend, playing wing woman for each other, realizing they are in love with each other, a group of teenagers match making, plus a brother, what can go wrong? Chemistry is strong. Claire Highton-Stevenson pulled off a festive holiday treat in time of the holidays. This is a yearly must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful friends to lovers romance

Love isn’t always being swept off your feet. Sometimes it grows over time and sneaks up on you. Those two sentences from the book itself are the perfect description of the story itself. And sometimes you need some little help from the outside to really realise that your person was already around for the whole time. This book is the perfect friends to lover romance that made me smile a lot. I read in one setting and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the festive feels!

    All the festive feels!

Sally is a dedicated career woman who has had very little time for love, but with Christmas looming she starts to wonder if perhaps it is time to find love for herself. Sally’s best friend, and co-teacher Gabby accompanies her as she dives into the crazy world of dating apps, and bars for the first time. Some of their students can’t fathom how their two teachers are completely oblivious to the fact that they are actually attracted to one another, so in an attempt to get them together embark on a little mission of their own.

This was the sweetest and cutest thing, a little Christmas romance treat that will melt your heart and have you completely falling in love with Sally and Gabby’s story. Although Sally is a confident and strong woman, she wasn’t half unsure of herself when it came to dating, but with the boost from Gabby the two of them made a right pair. Their friendship was amazing and it was so frustrating knowing they were perfect for one another and yet they really were completely oblivious to the fact. It added a little light comedy to the cute fluffiness!

What really made this story for me though were the kids! Those students that plotted and planned to do something truly amazing and lovely for their clueless teachers! I loved joining them as they planned, it was such fun and really brought the story to lift in a way I haven’t seen before. It was clever, enhanced how cute the story was, and reminded me that teenagers can be little romantics at heart. After all they are discovering their emotions and it was so sweet they also wanted to help their teachers find happiness.

I loved every moment of this, and it really did get me feeling festive. Christmas is a time for magic, which is exactly what Claire delivers in this story! I adored both Sally and Gabby, but most of the time it was Sally my heart was going out to. She was so hopeless and clueless, and with some of those dates she had to endure, she really did deserve to find happiness.

I highly recommend this, even as just a novella (I hope there will be more in future from Sally and Gabby!) as it will make you smile, leave you believing in love, and provide some great feels for the festive season.

I had low expectations but was positively surprised by this author I hadn't read before. It's an easy reading style, simple plot, but well executed. So, while it is lacking some depth and complexity, it is a good read.
