Unrequited: A Rock Star Romance (Unrequited Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
My proper southern belle mama might disagree, but I say I was born to be a rebel. From the second I got my hands on a pair of drumsticks, my future was sealed. I never fit in anyway, not with my rocker soul and curves that never take a day off.
But what’s a drummer without a band? Oh, that’s right. A cocktail waitress.
That is, until the chance of a lifetime falls into my lap—Unrequited needs a drummer, and I happen to have an ‘in’ with the band.
The only trouble is, Santiago Garza, Unrequited’s broody, scowly bassist, doesn’t want me in his band, which is kind of funny, considering he was the one who took my heart and stomped all over it five years ago.
My career is far more important than hurt feelings though, so Santiago can suck it up and deal. That’s what I’m doing, no matter how many times I remember the feel of his lips on mine. I won’t fall for him this time. I’m done being anyone’s second choice.

About the author

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.
She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!
Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2025I really enjoyed this. Maeve was a combination of bad ass and vulnerability and I really loved everything she grappled with. Santiago had hurt Maeve in the past and hit her where she was most vulnerable, but at the same time he couldn’t stay away from her and there chemistry just jumped from the page. I really loved this one, read it quickly in one sitting.

Do I like this story? Yes. Do I love this story? Again, yes.
Here's why:
For me as a Latina, the story is relatable, because I could picture the Garza family. They could fit into any family I know. Men who love deeply and passionately and love their women deeply and passionately, including all her curves.
I can see the story play out like a movie which is important to me, because it means Julia has done a great job in writing Santiago and Maeve's story. It also means she has given us a cast of characters that you want to know even more. The support from the side characters the FMC receives is nice to see. Most authors tend to include another female character that is usually mean or backstabbing. That isn't the case, here.
Lastly, the spice is there, and it takes a while to get there, but it does. It's great when it does. This story is sweet and a great read. I'm sure you'll find something that will endear you to it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2020If you are a fan of the Blue is the Color Series or just a fan of Julia Wolf, this is a must read. Even if you haven't read any of Ms. Wolf's previous works but like rock star stories, this is a must read. Ms. Wolf creates wonderful characters. You will fall in love not just with the main characters Santiago "Santi" and Maeve but also most of the secondary characters as well, leaving you waiting for their stories.
Maeve has become one of my all time favorite characters. She is a curvy, rebellious, bad-ass drummer that sounds like a southern belle. She never lived up to her mother's ideals as the perfect southern belle. She was too curvy and outspoken. She secretly took drum lessons instead of instruments her mother approved of. Only a few people knew she played drums for years.
At 18, the summer after graduation, Maeve hung out at her best friend Yael's house where she watched and listened to her friends "Mo" Moses, and "Murray" band practice. Maeve would practice her drums in the morning before the band arrived. One morning Santiago arrived early and saw her play. He joined her playing as well. Maeve ended up falling for the older musician but unfortunately at the end of the summer, he broke her heart. Santiago and Mo's band went off to become famous.
She rejected college and went to the West Coast with her friend Haven and Haven's younger brother Liam to pursue her own musical career. Maeve became a real bad-ass drummer with her own unique style. Things didn't work out for them in LA so they returned to the east coast ending up in New York. One night, while waiting tables in NY, Maeve runs into Mo's now famous band minus a drummer. Yael secretly brings the band to see Maeve play and gets her an audition. But can Maeve work and play with the man who broke her heart 5 years ago??
Ms Wolf makes it so I can't wait for Mo and Murray's stories and I truly hope we get Haven's story as well. She brings her characters to life so you fall in love with all of them. She even made Santiago's younger brother Diego someone I cared about by the end and now wonder about his story.
You will love this story as much as I did and will look forward to more as well.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2022This a really well written and engaging story. I loved all the characters, not just Maeve and Santiago. Their connections with each other was great, and I really felt their individuality. I really enjoyed Maeve's struggles and soft side, especially since she showed her progress to becoming so self aware and her determination to get what she deserved. I also enjoyed that there were lots of hilarious moments as well. A really great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2024This book gave me all the butterflies. I love she's a curvy girl and he loves it. I loooooove a grumpy/su shine trope and I love a strong female lead and this book has it all. I think Julia Wolfe is becoming one of my favorite writers. I'm off to read the next book
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2020Wow wow wow! Can you say unique and beautiful? This story is filled with such emotion. Growing up is hard and mix it with finding you HEA... well this story kept me intrigued. The message of not letting someone make you feel “less than” resonated with me.
This book had me at Rockstar Romance. Add a female drummer as our heroine, my #GirlPower heart became ecstatic. You won’t get just any heroine either, Maeve is hilarious, having the almost contradictory qualities of lady and rebel. Eek. Feeling all emotional thinking about it. When Karen Carpenter is mentioned in this story I was transported back to my childhood and music that helped raise me. Sob.
Santiago, sign, he is a holy hotness hero who has his own journey of finding himself. He has an allegiance to his band and family that can only be called impressive. It explains some of his misguided choices as well.
These two are SO SEXY together. Wink. Plan to fall in love not only with the couple but all the other amazing characters. I am so excited for future stories. Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO

My first book by Julia Wolf. I couldn't put it down.
It's well written, the characters are multi-layered, the connections surprising, the plot intriguing.
It was my first book, but won't be my last from Ms Wolf!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unrequited
So it's the age old story girl fall for boy and boy rejects girl, only in this story boy really liked the girl but so did his brother.
Maeve is an 18 southern belle with a big secret very few people know she falls for Santiago who is older and he shoots her down. This changes the course of Maeve's life forever and ultimately Santiago's as well.
Maeve's secret was she is a extremely talented drummer who ends up filling in as drummer in the band Unrequited and you got it Santiago's band.
I can't tell you how amazing it is when the female lead in a book is as badass as Maeve, I absolutely adore her. She is strong and sticks to her guns and refuses to be bullied about.
Santiago is a great brother and a natural protector but he learned a lot about himself through his brother Diego's problems.
Can't wait to read the next book already.
Fantastic book absolutely recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Sexy Rock Story
I don’t know why I was so drawn to this book. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything else by this author but the blurb drew me in. I must have been in need of a rock star fix and this one was a bit different.
Maeve is a curvy waitress who is waiting to be a full time drummer. She is a sweet and pretty southern girl who also likes to drum hard core rock. I loved her contrasts and how they formed her character from conflicts with her parents who wanted a southern belle daughter to being let down by people who could only see the sweet and pretty side of her personality. She was both sides of her personality, there was no split.
When Maeve was 18 she met a 25 year old man, Santiago, who was the bass player in her friend’s brother’s band. She had a huge crush on him but he hurt her when he rejected her. Five years later her old friend walks into the bar she is working and they reconnect. Her old friend comes to her latest gig and everything is thrown up into the air.
Santiago grew up hard but loved his family with all his heart. He was rough and sweet at the same time. I really enjoyed reading about him and his past. His relationship with Maeve was complicated and very simple at the same time. Their feelings for one another were only confused because of perceptions.
This is a feel good rock story, which was well written and entertaining. I’ll definitely be looking out for the next book in the series.
