- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2019Frank Renzi and Gina are lovers. he is a cop and she is a reporter. They are both married, unhappily. Frank.is investigating the so-called Lottery killer as women who win are being killed. Gina becomes involved with the latest murder and befriends the man who seems to be the killer.she suspects that he is innocent . The story revolves around Frank and Gina and how their instincts and impulses try to make the case. It is a heart stopping, interesting story with a satisfying ending. I enjoyed the characters and the writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2014I enjoyed the chase and the many twists and turns of the story. Well written with interesting characters. Great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2016If you have not yet read any of the Frank Renzi novels I suggest that you do so. There are six but not necessary to read them in order. I read Natalie’s Art first and then Missing. Fell in love with the main character and had to read Jackpot which is a prequel to the other novels and takes place in Boston rather than New Orleans. Being a Boston girl I could not resist. Frank is someone you have known all your life. He is a great guy. Compassionate, kind, caring, flawed and vulnerable. I love Susan’s attention to detail. If you are familiar with the area, it is a trip down Memory Lane. Susan’s descriptions of situations and characters are so relateable. I love her writing style. Jackpot is a first-rate suspense novel, and I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2014I didn't realize when I started reading this book that it was a prequel, and I expected more fleshing out of the backstory. I really enjoy the series, but because I am more familiar with New Orleans than with Boston, I've enjoyed those slightly more. That aside, I thought this was a quick, enjoyable read and entertaining to get to know Gina. I hope the next book takes us further along the road from Boston to New Orleans.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2015I wish I had read this one first?
Jackpot by Susan Fleet was purchased on my Kindle through Amazon. I was reading the series of Fleet books on the detective Frank Renzi and his exploits and the I was presented with this “Jackpot” as a prequel. It is a very interesting read and goes into further detail about the trials and tribulations of Renzi previous marriage and it clears up a lot of questions that I had in the three previous novels. Fleet is an excellent writer and keeps you totally involved in her plots. She creates a villain that you find yourself puling for her to escape. Read the series and discover this for yourself. You will be glad you did!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2014Frank Renzi is a Detective who has a serial killer to catch. Gina is a reporter after a story. The fact that they are in a relationship can be healthy, or deadly. A well written book with good strong characters, a storyline that is fast paced and a page turner. What is there not to like? Great read, looking forward to more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2014I loved this book. It did take while to get all the characters sorted out, but worth hanging in there. (I usually read only 15-20 minutes at a time) so that didn't help me in remembering all of them. Susan Fleet did an exellent job of keeping things mixed up and exciting all through the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a god mystery. While the mystery gets solved in the book, the main characters lives are sort of hanging out there waiting for the next book. I am definitely going to read the sequel to the book...and since this is #4 in this series, I plan to get the first 3 and read them.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2014I enjoyed the characters in this book. They are flawed, just like real people, but also have redeeming qualities and you grow to like them.
The insights in to the life of a compulsive gambler, a police detective, and an ambitious reporter are interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable prequel
A prequel to the previous Frank Renzi novels, taking us away from New Orleans to Frank’s home town of Boston.
The overarching plot of lottery winners being murdered is well executed and there is plenty of time for development of the characters.
Either pick this one up in it’s natural point in the series or as a first Renzi read for an enjoyable crime drama.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hated to put it down.
This book draws you right into the lives of the victims. I found that I was hoping against logic that the musicians would be spared, but the demented serial killer plows through his victims ruthlessly, following an agenda that only makes sense to him. This is my second Frank Renzi book, and I look forward to reading more.

4.0 out of 5 stars A slick, exciting thriller
A well-written psychological thriller with considerable depth and intelligence. Frank Renzi is the good, solid detective who follows very well-researched police procedures to track down his man. The back stories are well thought-out and every plotline leads to a natural conclusion. All the characters are vividly drawn, although some of them were a little clichéd for my taste. I also found some of the plot developments just a little contrived, as though the author had pushed them into shape to make everything fit the way it should. At times, I got very frustrated with Frank and Gina never having the courage to face up to their problems and confront their spouses head on. I thought Frank's powers of deduction were a little too well-developed at times as, on occasion, he seemed to follow the killer's thought processes with rather more ease than you might expect. These are very minor points in a book that engaged me fully in the characters' lives and will have enormous appeal for lovers of hard-hitting, fast-paced psychological whydunnits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackpot
Apt title for this great read.
Thoroughly enjoyed this novel, great storyline, and page turner..
Love this series of novels although read out of sequence didn't detract from the plot in any way. Love the main character Frank Renzi, typical gutsy dedicated detective working in the sweaty American south. Great plot.
Only I one more to read in the series . Can't wait!
