About the author

Leona is an Army Brat turned veteran, and a longtime staunch supporter of human rights and environmental causes. Her favourite genre to read is M/M fiction and she particularly enjoys the science fiction, fantasy, and action/suspense subgenres—especially if they have a nice seasoning of romance. She has far too many books on her Kindle, has overloaded her phone with even more and, when not reading, writing, being driven to distraction by her children, or being overlorded by her eight cats and two Newfoundlands, can be found trying to locate the portal that the sock monster uses to steal socks from her dryer.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2016The book still has some minor bugs in it- missing punctuation, some misspelled words, and a couple floating quotation marks- but I really enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing where the author takes the characters next.
The story starts off with Steve and Jared, both lovable men, and while they're the main characters we get some insight into the secondary cast and what exactly is going on while the couple is trying to sort out their newly discovered feelings for one another. I thought that [peek into the secondary cast] was a great addition to the book that added more mystery and depth to the plot.
There are a lot of fascinating and unique concepts in this novel that really reeled me in, like the world development and mpreg. I had never heard of mpreg before this book but I think the scenes involving it were written well and it added a nice touch of humor to off set some of the intense mystery.
Jared (Urban Wolves Book 1) was fun, crazy, intense, and at times, emotional. I look forward to reading book 2.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017Jared, Urban Wolves #1, is the first in what looks to be a wonderful paranormal series. The first book focuses on Jared, a human, discovering he is the True Mate to the werewolf Alpha Heir, Steve.
Fair warning, the book begins with a horrific sexual attack on Jared by two men in an alley behind a club. Jared is rescued by Steve, who immediately recognizes that this man is his true mate and takes him home to his pack’s condo. From there on the story is partly a search for the rapists but mostly an introduction to the world of the paranormal in Los Angeles. Even the FBI gets involved.
The author initially sticks to the standard canon of shifters but then builds on that to create her own world and rules. There are fae, vampires, werewolves, even a husky shifter, and more. Eventually there is a major mpreg subplot, which is different but well produced.
Many, and I do mean MANY characters are introduced, presumably as MCs or critical secondary characters for future stories. There is more than one world here, one in the world we know and one beyond the Veil where the magic really happens. Oh, and when the rapists/murders are finally caught their punishment is creative and horrifying. This is a true “death would be better” kind of punishment, but it isn’t bloodthirsty. Fascinating.
If you enjoy paranormal stories of any kind, mpreg, werewolves, or any such, I know this is a book you will really get into. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2019The story was enjoyable and mostly fun to read. Parts of the book feel a little rushed and could use more fleshing out. Other parts I had to skip over. Such as the scene at the beginning where the main character is the victim of sexual assault. It's pretty graphic and I had to skip over it due to how uncomfortable it made me.
There was also the numerous grammar errors. I pretty much expect any book to have one or 2, even if they come from huge publishing houses mistakes are still made. This book however had missing words, sentences with a word added twice in weird ways that screwed up the whole sentence, and misspelled words that were misspelled due to missing 1 or more letters. These mistakes happened almost every 3 or 4 pages it seems. I'd highly recommend the author spell check their story or get a new editor if they have one because spellcheck alone would have caught the words missing letters.
The grammar errors along with parts of the plot that felt rushed are why I give 3 stars. I'd still recommend reading it if you can get past the assault scene. But take it with a grain of salt that other than that scene this book is more for world and character building than anything else.

4.0 out of 5 stars I gave it 4 stars for the story, would have been 5 if not for the poor editing...
I liked the story and I probably will end up reading any of the next ones. It was well developed and I liked how the world was well described with a large background and the details of the world given. It was an interesting twist on an overdone trope. I do have to say however that I found the story in dire need of editing. Aside from missing punctuation, there were the wrong names used in certain places (major pet peeve of mine), there were quite a few misspellings, wrong words used, missing words, capitalization and it didn't get any better the further along you went, in fact at times it seemed to get worse. I think the author could seriously use a beta reader to help point that out or take the time to go through and edit before posting for purchase. It makes the reader paying to read the story feel kind of... short changed in a way. I can read stories not edited for free on websites and forums. Why pay almost five bucks for something that the author didn't even take the time to at least try and edit for simple things? Not saying this to be nasty, but as someone who reads a LOT and spends a lot of money on ebooks, lately this seems to be the biggest issue with self-published or small publishing houses. The story is really good, don't get me wrong. Just wish I could have enjoyed it more. I couldn't help stumbling as I read because of the poor edits.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2021Not the best I've read but certainly not the worst. Feels like a bit too much going on all at once. With too many perspective changes, some of which feel sudden or are not clearly marked when it shift. Frankly I think this would do better to be fluffed out more and broken up into more than one book or narrowed down to have a bit more focus. Still a good read and the idea is there. The introduction was great but the rest of the story just seemed to run away with itself. Still despite only giving this 2 stars I would definitely say I could see myself rereading this one at some point. So yeah 2 stars for final outcome but a hearty 5 stars for effort
