    Victoria Danann has done it again and I think I am in love. Jax was introduced in the last book - FALCON: NEXT GENERATION. You don't have to read that book first, but this is such a wonderful series, why deny yourself the pleasure? In fact, I recommend reading all of her books. She has created such wonderful, complex worlds and filled them with such memorable characters.

    Jax is working with the Knights of the Black Swan. He is a vampire who is a vampire hunter. There are individuals like Jax who were turned by another immortal vampire. They are, for the most part, powerful, but intelligent. They don't kill those whose blood they drink. Then there are those that were turned because of a virus. They are savage and almost mindless. Their bite infects their victims and turns them into similar monsters. These are the ones Jax and the Knights are fighting. With Jax's help they are turning the tide.

    We get a closer look at Jax's early life and how he became a vampire. He was innocent and sweet, but so eager to learn. When offered the chance to see the world and become more than he could imagine, he didn't hesitate for long. He embraced his new immortal life and now, even after 400 years, has few regrets. He takes blood and pleasure from women he never thinks about again and who don't remember him after he leaves. It's a satisfying arrangement. That is, until he meets Drogheda. Unlike the many, many women who came before, he cannot get her out of his mind. Not only that, she has him questioning his whole existence. Working with the Knights and being Falcon's partner started the process of his change.

    This story is filled with romance and adventure. There is humour and there is loss. Themes about love, friendship, and loyalty run through Victoria Danann's books. What would you do for those you care about? How much would you risk? How much are you willing to accept?

    This is such a great read. The only thing you will regret is when it ends and you have to wait for the next book in the series.

    So I was sitting here, minding my own business, trying to catch up on some pre-orders that had delivered, and a new series start by one of my favorite authors and BANG! here is Jax. Well to be honest, I hadn't even been sure I wanted it when I pre-ordered it but it's Victoria Danann so I bit. I ordered it and then really didn't think about it until here it was. So I did what is logical, I tried to ignore it for a little while but then I decided I would take "just a little" peek.

    Now I am sitting here, just over a day later, saying "What happened?" Well I guess that's pretty obvious... another Victoria Danann book happened and I just had to binge read it. That is the only way I can read her books. So now you want to hear about the book, right? Just a bit:

    Naturally, given the series, it's about vampire and vampire hunters. There's an appearance by several "old" figures from the series, there's a love story (or two) thrown in, and a lot of thought-making stuff. Sort of a surprise for a vampire, paranormal romance, eh? You want more? That's easy - BUY THE BOOK!

    A word of warning: If you haven't read the previous books, read them first. It will help connect a whole lot of dots in this book. The author tries to give you enough help with those dots so that I suppose this one might be readable as a stand along. I wouldn't know because I've read every one in the series... and all of her other series, plus I think one stand alone. Yep, the means I have read all of her books so I feel safe/qualified to say this: Go back to the very beginning (My Familiar Stranger) and start reading until you get to Jax. You will thank me and if you're lucky, her next one might be out by then so you can keep right on reading.

    Now I will go back to my other book(s) and pick up where I dropped them.

    I loved Jax's story. in the 1400's, a naive 20 year old farmer's son who didn't know how to read it write who was sent to buy a bull and look for a wide was manipulated by one of the original immortal vampires and turned into one never to see his family again. Yet he saw the world evolve and wars fought and power change hands. Jax was one of the good vampires. He never did harm to humans and only seduced woman for blood, never did he kill.

    When the vampire epidemic makes a turn for the worse he comes out of the shadows in NY and offers the Black Swans his services when they need it the most. That is when he stumbles up in the woman he finally falls in love with for the very first time.

    D.L. Daley has been fending for herself since she was in her teens due to a selfish mother. Meeting Jax and having him compliment her was an experience, yet when he tries to hypnotize her into forgetting their night together only to go back for another 1st date, she's furious. That's when he falls in love with her and reveals his true self for the first time in 600 years.

    When trouble follows him and targets her, can she accept his world?
