JAX (Breaking the Declan Brothers, #1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,539 ratings

“Some boys can get rough, some don’t always listen when you tell them to stop, and some boys, they’re just monsters. You gotta be careful who you play with…” ~ Jax Declan

I’m a tease, always have been. In my teens, Jax Declan tried to warn me about staying away from the bad boys. The only boy I ever wanted was Jax. But, no matter how much I tried to play with him, he rejected me.
I haven’t seen Jax Declan in years. A couple friends and I are going back to the Bayou for the summer. A little older now, and a bit wiser, I’ve decided that I’m going to find my teenage crush and I’m going to break him. This summer Jax Declan will play with me.
But the closer I get and the more I learn about the reserved, discreet, and sexy Jax Declan. Well, I’m starting to think that Jax Declan might just be one of those bad boys he tried to warn me about all those years ago.

This is my first book by Kelly Gendron. I found Jax when I saw the cover and synopsis for Slate which is coming next. I just knew I had to read Jax and I'm super glad I did.

Emmie Rue and Jax Declan grew up together. Jax is three years older then Emmie. Emmie has been in love with Jax as long as she can remember. No matter how many times she threw herself at him he always shot her down. Jax was never seen dating any girls.

Emmie Rue hasn't been back in her hometown for a long time. But, her and her 2 friends have the summer open and need something to do. They decide to go back home to the Bayou. She has a plan to get Jax. Emmie wants to break Jax. She has never stopped wanting Jax and she will get him this time.

Jax could not believe his eyes when they landed on Emmie. He had not seen her in years. Emmie had always thrown herself at him. But, Jax was waiting until Emmie turned 18 then he was going to make her his. Then, his parents died and he was left to take care of his 2 younger brothers Slate and Zeke. Now, him and his brother own a bar as well as do MMA fighting. It's a huge hit at the bar. Now, that Emmie is back in town Jax has every intention of making Emmie his. But, he plans on taking it slow and making her work for it.

Man, where these 2 hot!! They had a lifetime of sexual frustration between them. Then, add Jax very dominate side. Phew!! You will need to cool off. Jax and Emmie have such a connection. Between their friendship that was already there. To now add on the chemistry that they both are all for. This book is non-stop. It was a short read I read it in an afternoon. I wish it was a little longer but that's OK. I loved how Emmie went with a plan of breaking down Jax and he turned it around on her. It was nice to see how Jax spent his life taking care of everyone else before he took care of his own wants and needs. But, now he was doing what was best for him. It was about damn time!! Kelly set up Slate book in a crazy way. I am dying to see Slate and Zeke get their stories told. I am officially a Kelly Gendron fan!!

On a mission to break the one man who never gave her the time of day! Too bad her plan didn't work the way she planned.
Emmie Rue followed her best friend back to the Bayou for some summer fun and with hopes of finally laying to rest the one conquest that she never was ever to settle in her heart. Jax Declan. Older by a few years, and the quiet reserved brother of the Declan 3. Emmie had a crush on him for years but he never fell for her advances, but she was determined to find him, make him fall, and walk away.
    Easier said than done!
Jax Declan took life as it came and when he was forced to grow up and take care of his brothers, that also meant putting what he wanted most on hold. That included not showing his feelings for Emmie. So her showing up in town turns things upside down and they both have to decide where to go from here.

The heat. The emotion. The connection between Jax & Emmie was slow building but had been building for a long time. Jax definitely knew how to take it slow and I enjoyed every moment of his slow seduction, especially since Emmie believed she was going to win Jax over first.

There were lessons to be learned on both sides and surprises that were not let out until just the right time. The brothers and friends added to the momentum of the story and kept the two on track.

This story was definitely a great start to the series and Jax & Emmie will be a HOT act to follow for the remaining brothers!

I was in shock and awe when I started reading Jax. It wasn't what I expected, but I didn't care. Once I started reading I didn't stop until the end. Luckily is it a short, easy read. A summer in the Bayou turns into so much more for Emmie and her friends. I am so thrilled that I got to go along for the ride. Emmie, the ex-beauty queen, is so much more than a pretty face. She is smart. She is a dedicated friend. She has a goal, and nothing will stop her. Emmie has crushed on Jax since high school. Jax is her goal. Unfortunately for Emmie, but fortunate for the reader, she has no clue what she is walking into. Jax has survived the school of hard knocks. It shows in his attitudes and actions. Jax is all alpha male. He is well built and decorated with tattoos. He takes what he wants without regrets. And he wants Emmie. It may sound simple, but there are many challenges, many complications, many obstacles. The story flowed well. The roller coaster relationship remained interesting until the end of the book and then nothing. To learn more you have to wait patiently (or in my case not so patiently) to read more in Slate and Zeke's stories.

It's great that Jax got his girl it could have been a lot worse if she had believed the waitress and not gone to talk to Jax I liked the concept and the result but it seemed very rushed and as yet no conclusion hope it happens through the series
