Jesus, The GOOD Trouble Maker: Hero? Enemy? Or... Son of God? A Christian preteen adventure Bible story about choosing what's right - even when it's TOUGH! (Jesus and Me Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 16 ratings

Jonathan must decide... Is Jesus: Hero? Enemy? Or... the Son of God?

Jonathan, 12, isn't looking for trouble.

He goes to school with his friend Ananias in Nazareth and cuts stone with his father John for the mega Temple in Jerusalem.

He listens to music and goes to guest appearances by a cool new Bible teacher Yeshua (Jesus).

"This guy knows what's he's talking about!"

But... Yeshua is not looking to keep everything the same. Oh no! In fact he wants to change the world! He's telling people they need to change - now!

And Jonathan sort of... agrees.

But when Yeshua starts to say things that REALLYupset the Temple teachers: when the teachers start talking about 'getting rid' of him...

Everything is at risk.

  • Yeshua could be arrested, or worse.

  • The Romans could destroy the Temple in revenge.

  • The Head-Teachers could lose their jobs and their freedom- and they are determined to stop Yeshua before this happens.

Jonathan must decide: Will he follow his friends and teachers? Will he risk upsetting his father?

Or - will he follow this rebel Rabbi who could be - The Son of God!

"The message of the book is simple - ...don’t be a bystander to history and to follow your heart and faith in all things.”

“Preteens can use this book as a resource while navigating through life and encountering the various unknowns... not all trouble is “bad” and the Truth lives in all of us provided by our Maker. I highly recommend this book…”

“[this book] is a great resource for a child's library as it can help children understand that Jesus and God’s Word can be trusted to have answers and guidance even when adults around them may not. I look forward to sharing this book with my preteen grandchildren.”

From the author:

It's hard to find adolescent literature for our children without swearing, sex and other actions we don't want to teach our children about yet. Jesus, The Good Trouble Maker is an attention-holding chapter book that provides:

  • An exciting Christian-faith adventure showing how even the most ordinary boy can make brave decisions when other people are against him. Exciting, funny (There's a Spiderman joke and a football joke hidden in there) at times, and great for discussion with your child: What would they do?

  • Hebrew and Greek words used in the text are explained at the start and help introduce your child to a few names of God, and Hebrew names for mother and father.

  • First Century Facts - did you know that some Jews believed in toilet demons? Or that the Temple grounds were bigger than multiple football stadiums?

  • Photographs of Israel, parts of the Temple and other locations.

Start a gripping adventure (and Bible learning) rolled into one - today!

... an engaging story of Jesus' ministry as seen through the eyes of Jonathan, a 12-year-old Jewish boy. The author has geared the book for preteens and young adults and it does seem to be age appropriate. .I liked that the fictional story being told by Jonathan was based on historical events of the Bible. The author includes a lot of interesting tidbits of information regarding the Jewish people and their lives during this time in history. I also like the casual tone of the writing as it fits well with the narration of the story by a 12 year old child. Jesus the Good Troublemaker is a great resource for a child's library as it can help children to understand that Jesus and God's Word can be trusted--trusted to have answers and guidance even when adults around them may not. The opinions are my own.Emily-Jane Ortford, for Readers' Favorites 5/5 stars"I enjoyed reading it, it's a pleasure to see an accurate portrayal of Jesus from a first century Jewish perspective."A. T. From the Author

Writing Bible-based fiction is a real challenge as not only do millions of people 'know' the characters: you must make certain assumptions about the characters' motives. This challenged me on a personal level as well as a theological one: and involved a lot of research about Jewish thinking of the time.Thankfully, one does not need to make assumptions about the love of Jesus for humanity and his objection to religion that stops people from knowing Him, the Father and the Spirit. So, the focus of this book is what a young boy does when the 'religion' he's been brought up conflicts with the love he sees from Christ - and the boy's realisation that Jesus may well be divine. This book could speak to those wondering if the religion they follow other than Christianity is really the truth; it can speak to young Christians;and to young people wondering how to handle the objections that might come if they become Christians.I really hope this book is a blessing to you. For younger children you can look at Jesus and Me: One Child's Friendship with the Son of God, the first book in the series and follow the adventures of Imma, 8, as she wonders why Jesus won't use His Super powers!

Award-winning author Joshua Cartwright started his writing career writing short true-life accounts for Take a Break magazine, the top-selling women’s magazine in Britain. He’s always enjoyed stories, so it now seems natural that he trained as a business-life coach and ran a business for four years, helping people tell themselves better stories.

When the idea for The Granny JJ Adventures came along it was extremely off-beat – an old creole-speaking grandmother who investigates mysteries in Guyana, South America! But he listened to his wife Glenda, and now the book is well-known in Guyanese circles and even the Guyanese Government has bought copies! In September 2021 the book won a finalist award in the Reader's Favorite International book competition, in the mystery category.

He’s a committed Christian, and one day began wondering if he could create stories that helped children 8+ connect to Jesus.

Thus followed – with divine help! – the Jesus and Me series, now having over 65 five star reviews on Amazon; and it's currently being turned into a TV series script.

He’s happily married to Glenda and they have six children. Joshua's latest project is a book on how to develop your innovation skills called Brutal Creativity.

I sometimes have a hard time finding Christian books for my 9 year old son that are engaging and relatable. I usually read straight from the Bible but if I could take all the stories in the Bible and make them as fun as this one, that would be incredible. This is told from Jonathan’s perspective of the miraculous power of Jesus while on earth, and boy was it engaging!! It kept you wanting to know what would happen next. I love how the author took this story from the Bible and made it relatable while keeping the accounts very accurate. If you want your children to grow in their faith and understand the work of Jesus on a more personal level, then this is the book for them! The author brings the story to life and make it applicable.

Written from a 12 year old’s perspective, this is a good way to get pre-teens interested in learning more about Jesus and the Bible. It’s unconventional and reads like a young adult novel, but with invaluable lessons.

Jesus the Good Troublemaker, written by Joshua Cartwright, is an engaging story of Jesus’ ministry as seen through the eyes of Jonathan, a 12-year-old Jewish boy. The author has geared the book for preteens and young adults and it does seem to be age appropriate. The story follows Jesus from the time he was about 30 years of age until his death and resurrection and His ultimate ascension into Heaven. The author cites historical events from the book of Luke in the New Testament of the Bible. Included in the book is a short dictionary of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words used in the book, a picture and description of the Temple at Jerusalem, and a map of where the people in the book lived. I liked that the fictional story being told by Jonathan was based on historical events of the Bible. The author includes a lot of interesting tidbits of information regarding the Jewish people and their lives during this time in history. I enjoyed reading this book. It was interesting to see the story of Jesus from a child/pre-teen's perspective. I like how he was able to make a decision for himself whether his father agreed with it or not. It is a story that my 5 and 3 year old would enjoy listening to (because they already enjoy me reading chapter books to them. I will probably read it to them in the future). I would recommend it to children (10 and up) and adults a like.

I enjoyed this book for its simple message sprinkled with some high drama. And it frames the question- what would you do in similar circumstances?

You have heard the story before but perhaps not this way. This fresh account brings to life the story of the Carpenter from Nazareth who changed the world. Told through the eyes of a child who meets this man and has to wonder- is this man a wise rabbi, a prophet or something more? And what could it all mean if the latter is true?

Set during the Roman occupation, this book delves into the politics and hypocrisy of the day and the simple faith of a boy, running contrary to the wisdom of that age.

The message of the book is simple, don’t be a bystander to history and to follow your heart and faith in all things. This book is a celebration of the impact of one man, no ordinary man, on the every day folk around him. An impact that has since changed the world - the life, death and resurrection of Yeshua ben Yosef, known to many today as Jesus Christ.

What an encouraging book for preteens and adults alike!

Jesus, the GOOD Trouble Maker challenges us to consider the fact that Jesus Christ IS the Son of God and that He is intimately concerned for our welfare and future.

The story is told from the perspective of Jonathan, a 12-year-old Jewish boy, and covers the time period then Jesus is preparing to die on the cross. When all else in the world fails, Jonathan learns and understand that there is more to life than the present terrible situations, a lesson that we should all take heart to.

Truly a refreshing must-read! Great for those Christians who sometimes don't quite understand God's plan for the world, but who needs a little encouragement now and again!

“Jesus, Trouble-Maker!” is a beautifully written story creating a foundation of connection and empathy between a young boy and his journey through faith. The author gracefully delivers a clear message that the Word of God has the answers one seeks during times of uncertainty. Preteens can use this book as a resource while navigating through life and encountering the various unknowns. It provides a safe space in which they can relate to the character and realize that not all trouble is “bad” and that the Truth lives in all of us provided by our Maker. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking direction in life through the eyes of a young Jesus.

A child's look at the life of Jesus--knowing him and understanding his ministry. Such a great story, photos, and glossary of Hebrew and Greek words. You get a look into the customs of the times, and fact boxes with extra information. The best thing about it is the result. It made me pick up my bible and read. I highly recommend this book for middle grade readers.
