Jo Fletcher is going to be an author people are going to talk about. After a very strong book debut, I couldn’t wait to read her next one. “Back to Back” was another powerhouse. Fred is in charge of a very large construction sight and being the first women to do it has a lot of pressure on her, so no distractions are needed. Ruby works for a marketing firm that has been hired by the board to promote the new building for the neighborhood. But when Ruby walks onto Fred’s construction sight, she does everything wrong and Fred is a stickler for safety. The story takes you through the pressures on Fred, like a board member who is after her, an ex who thinks Fred can be used anytime(also on the board) and Ruby who is like a chaos but in a sweet adorable way. With all this on her something has to give. After all her name is on the sight and anything going wrong will be on her watch. Enjoyed this book and this coupling so much.
    Great job Jo!

I give this 5* because it's good, the writing and impact are good, and the main characters are easy to identify with. I did have some impatience with the pace though and would give 4* for that part. Through the middle I just wanted it to "hurry up". But hang in there, it packs a punch and I'm glad I finished it. Give it a try.

Well, I am totally in love with Fred! She loves her job as construction manager. She is honest, trustworthy, safety conscious and all other good things. When Ruby joins the massive project as a marketing genius it doesn't take long for sparks to fly. Although they don't agree on a lot of things, they absolutely agree that the other is intriguing. Like most love stories there is some angst and some drama. There is some good communication for most of the book but then tragedy strikes. Feelings are hurt and hearts were hurt. Can they overcome such adversity? Yep, you know---that is the rest of the story. I really liked this book. It was easy to read and I even gasped a time or two. Definitely recommend this one.

I really enjoyed this book. Ruby and Fred are total opposites. Ruby - a total femme and PR manager - shows up at the construction site in heels and a skirt. Fred gets upset as this is her first time leading the construction site and she’s a stickler for following the safety rules. And that’s how we start - attraction at first site and opposites attract. You can feel the tension right away and it continues through the book.

Flawed but fabulous characters that you can’t stop reading about.

    I recommend it!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Ruby & (Wini)Fred
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 2, 2024
Ruby is in PR, based in London. She’s not best pleased when her latest assignment turns out to be at a construction project in Manchester. Turning up at the building site on her first day in high heels was not her wisest fashion choice, especially, when she’s set to rights by the site manager Fred and thrust into a pair of wellies 3 sizes too big. Fred is, quite rightly, big on health & safety, it’s her name on the job so her head that will roll if things go wrong on site. Can these two seemingly opposite personalities find a way to work together whilst dealing with their growing attraction?
I really enjoyed this very well written sapphic romance. The Masc/Femme personalities of the MCs made for an attractive dynamic, & although a major plot point was somewhat telegraphed throughout the build up to the actual event it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the traumatic outcome which leads to a genuine & believable 3rd act breakup. It’s a story big on characterisation, & not just the beautifully developed relationship between the MCs, but the friends & family & exes & villainous bosses also make this a very satisfying novel. Including locations from my home country of Wales into the storyline also gets a big tick from me. Will delve into the authors other work in due course. Da Iawn Jo.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written immersive romance
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 1, 2024
I enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster this story took me on. When the spirited and chaotic Ruby arrives to manage PR for newly promoted construction manager Fred, they don’t get off to a good start. Can opposites truly attract, or are they too different to find common ground?

Jo Fletcher's talent for creating believable, flawed, yet loveable characters shines in her second book. Each character is meticulously crafted, drawing you not only into the story but also into the hearts and minds of Ruby and Fred. Fletcher’s writing is immersive, making it impossible not to become invested in the characters’ journeys.

I loved every beautifully written word, and can’t wait to see what Jo Fletcher writes next.
