Joint Penetration (Hot Under the Collar Book 3) Kindle Edition
Ollie
The last thing I expected from my wife was a divorce. I’d checked all the boxes off—cozy house near my folks, joined the family business as a contractor, and married right out of high school. Except the more I think about how distant we’ve been, the more our split makes sense. And the more time I spend blowing off steam with my best friend, the more I want to actually…blow him.
Liam
Have I been hopelessly in love with Ollie my entire life? Yes, yes, I have. Has he been married for the past decade? Yes, yes, he has. However, when his wife calls it quits, my heart can’t help contriving scenarios where he might not be as straight as he seems. And when those scenarios start coming true—from scorching looks to playful grapples until we go much further—I throw myself into the deep end.
The second we start hooking up, I can’t hold back the feelings I’ve been clutching tight to for over a decade. But if this ends up a rebound for Ollie, a blip before he looks for a new wife, I won’t only be out a best friend but the love of my life.
Joint Penetration is a high heat, low angst M/M best friends to lovers romance with a bi awakening, birdwatching jokes, and a loud, nosy family that reads as a standalone.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2025I liked Liam and Ollie. They were fun and playful and oblivious for a long time. Kinda neat how one knew and the other was so dense. The family is awesome.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2025Ok, so I’m a bit torn on what to rate this one. By far it was my favorite connection between the MCs in the series. The lack of a freak out when Ollie realized his attraction to Liam, the ease of their transition from friends to lovers, the steam, the scenes with friends and family… I mean. Fantastic.
But the divorce aspect was hard for me to connect to and read in some parts. The timeline confused me honestly. I thought it had been days since the wife left, but there’s a part that mentions it’s already been a month? Idk if I missed or misread something. Also, Ollie referring to his breakup as being divorced already when they hadn’t actually started the process yet bothered me.
Overall, I did love the book and the parts that bothered me didn’t detract enough to drop my rating below a 4.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024I wasn't a fan of this book. It wasn’t my favorite of the series. The characters were ok but the dialogue just didn’t work for me. The characters weren’t memorable for me either.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2025This book is one I’ve been looking forward to. I have enjoyed every book in this series and Ollie and Liam are the cherry on top.
Liam is in love with his best friend. His straight married best friend. He’s resigned to loving his his friend from afar and not having any relationships. Until the night that Ollie walks in and says that his wife is divorcing him, and then Liam‘s world is turned to upside down. Ollie clings to Liam for comfort. He wonders why he’s not as broken up over Josie leaving him as he thinks he should be, but Liam is there with him and all he can think about is what Liam’s lips would taste like, what it would be like to be with him.
I cannot find the words to say how much I love this book. We have watched Liam pine for Ollie in the last two books and all I wanted for him was a happy ending. Katherine McIntyre took all of that steam, all of that want, and wrote this amazing story. Even though this is the end of the Hot Under the Collar series, we will continue to see our guys in the spin off series with the Brannon boys.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2024If you like your gay romance steamy, you will want to read this straight-to-gay romance. This book has “saucy” in abundance!
Ollie and Liam have been best friends forever. What Ollie is too oblivious to know is that Liam has had a major crush on him just as long but the fact that Ollie is married to Josie complicates matters. You think?! They have been married for a decade and dated for a few years before that but they fought all the time. The only people who didn’t see the problem were Ollie and Josie until Josie said enough. What happens when Josie announces one day, out-of-the-blue that she wants a divorce? Then what happens when Ollie suddenly sees Liam as more than just a friend? Can Liam believe this? Liam already had a bad relationship. No more of that thinks Liam!
What fascinates me the most about this book is that Ollie turns on a dime in lust with Liam. No qualms about loving a man after dating only women during his 30 years. Fortunately, there is very little angst. I enjoyed the cameos of people from previous books in this series. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024Joint Penetration by Katherine McIntyre is the 3rd book in her Hot Under the Collar series. It is the story of two men who have been best friends since they were young, one straight and the other not, who finally realize they belong together and their friendship love has turned into forever love. Ollie Brannon works for his family’s construction company and has been married for 10 years when his wife decides she wants a divorce. He finally realizes that they have argued a lot and probably weren’t right for each other from the very beginning so while he is shocked, it really isn’t a surprise. He leans on his best friend, Liam Kelly, who has always been there for him. Liam is a PT and loves his job but not where he works as his boss is somewhat of a jerk. He has loved Ollie since there were boys and they have always hung out and done things together as much as possible. He also had a boyfriend who was a jerk and he was afraid to put his heart on the line and even though Ollie was straight he still pined for him. Then one night they played an interesting video game that led to a hot love scene and maybe Ollie wasn’t so straight, especially when he saw the interesting underwear Liam was wearing. But they were interrupted and when this happened again at another time Liam leaves, worried that Ollie hasn’t told his close family about the divorce or that he is dating Liam. Ollie realizes his mistake and tries to talk to Liam but he won’t answer his E-mails. It takes Liam’s roommate, Maeve, to see that he hasn’t given Ollie a chance or heard him out so they get back together and talk. They each know that the other is the only person for them and that they fit together seamlessly but they really haven’t told each other that. Liam was always worried that Ollie would leave him for another woman and that would shatter his heart and when they finally said, “I love you”, they were the happiest people around. That left them telling Ollie’s family and their friends and that was surprisingly easy and everyone was happy for them and even happier when Ollie’s divorce party turned into something else. I really enjoyed this story. Ollie is a big teddy bear who wants cuddles and touches and it seemed that Liam was the only one who could satisfy him in those areas. He was also kind and caring and a little clueless about what he needed to tell Liam so he wouldn’t worry so much. Liam is also a great character who was a worrier but also hopeful that maybe Ollie could be his. Ollie’s brothers and family played a big part in their story as did Liam’s roommate and his friend group. All of them could see that they belonged together even if they didn’t see it themselves at the time. I also liked how Ollie was able to help Liam start his own PT practice in town which was his dream. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about best friends who take a while to realize they belong together after going through some rough times and finally get their happy ending.

This was a sweet low angst story. Good steam and fun moments between Ollie and Liam.
I'm excited for the spin off series about Ollie's brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
This book wraps up a lovely, sweet, spicy set of low angst, fun stories. I loved all three couples and the supporting cast of found and blood family and others. Can't wait for the planned spin off with Ollie's family

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining friends-to-lovers romance
4.25/5 This was an entertaining, low-angst read, with my favourite kind of bi-awakening, where the MC is maybe a bit surprised they didn’t figure it out earlier, but there’s no angst, internalised homophobia, or self-hatred. I thought the story did an excellent job of making no one the bad guy. Liam has had these feelings forever but has carefully not acted on them. Ollie has been married and a bit oblivious, but has been trying to make his marriage work even if it doesn’t really. And Josie has been doing the same thing, until a job offer is the tipping point for admitting this isn’t working and moving on. (Although I think her reveal could have been better, I appreciate very much she wasn’t the evil ex.)
Liam and Ollie have such a close and affectionate relationship that it’s really the quintessential friends-to-lovers. They know everything about one another, and once they’re free to realise those stronger feelings, they are all in. I liked how their likes complemented one another, and it was fun to see them have such perfect dates because they knew one another so well.
The misunderstanding made sense in the heat of the moment and doesn’t go on for too long, and the two of them are really just so well matched, it’s a pleasure to see them figure that out and start living the HEA of their dreams.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
