Joint Penetration (Hot Under the Collar Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 405 ratings

Liam Kelly is in love with his best friend. His straight, freshly divorced best friend, who wants to experiment…with him.

Ollie

The last thing I expected from my wife was a divorce. I’d checked all the boxes off—cozy house near my folks, joined the family business as a contractor, and married right out of high school. Except the more I think about how distant we’ve been, the more our split makes sense. And the more time I spend blowing off steam with my best friend, the more I want to actually…blow him.

Liam

Have I been hopelessly in love with Ollie my entire life? Yes, yes, I have. Has he been married for the past decade? Yes, yes, he has. However, when his wife calls it quits, my heart can’t help contriving scenarios where he might not be as straight as he seems. And when those scenarios start coming true—from scorching looks to playful grapples until we go much further—I throw myself into the deep end.

The second we start hooking up, I can’t hold back the feelings I’ve been clutching tight to for over a decade. But if this ends up a rebound for Ollie, a blip before he looks for a new wife, I won’t only be out a best friend but the love of my life.

Joint Penetration is a high heat, low angst M/M best friends to lovers romance with a bi awakening, birdwatching jokes, and a loud, nosy family that reads as a standalone.

Ok, so I’m a bit torn on what to rate this one. By far it was my favorite connection between the MCs in the series. The lack of a freak out when Ollie realized his attraction to Liam, the ease of their transition from friends to lovers, the steam, the scenes with friends and family… I mean. Fantastic.

But the divorce aspect was hard for me to connect to and read in some parts. The timeline confused me honestly. I thought it had been days since the wife left, but there’s a part that mentions it’s already been a month? Idk if I missed or misread something. Also, Ollie referring to his breakup as being divorced already when they hadn’t actually started the process yet bothered me.

Overall, I did love the book and the parts that bothered me didn’t detract enough to drop my rating below a 4.

Liam and Oliver have been best friends for years, but Oliver has been married for 13 years... to a woman. When he shows up at a party and announces his marriage is over, Liam can't get Ollie out of his mind.

Ollie is straight when the book starts, but his family and friends seem to think otherwise. I felt like the switch from 'I'm a happily married man' to 'I'm interested in my gay best friend' was sort of convenient and quick.

This wasn't a slow burn, which I had been hoping for. The pair had chemistry for days and let nothing stand in the way of finding out if they were a good fit together.

Overall, it was an enjoyable listen, and there were many moments of pure heat, but I was hoping for a little more angst when it came to Oliver wanting Liam. Their story was fun, and the narrator did a great job with the two MC's.

If you like your gay romance steamy, you will want to read this straight-to-gay romance. This book has “saucy” in abundance!
Ollie and Liam have been best friends forever. What Ollie is too oblivious to know is that Liam has had a major crush on him just as long but the fact that Ollie is married to Josie complicates matters. You think?! They have been married for a decade and dated for a few years before that but they fought all the time. The only people who didn’t see the problem were Ollie and Josie until Josie said enough. What happens when Josie announces one day, out-of-the-blue that she wants a divorce? Then what happens when Ollie suddenly sees Liam as more than just a friend? Can Liam believe this? Liam already had a bad relationship. No more of that thinks Liam!
What fascinates me the most about this book is that Ollie turns on a dime in lust with Liam. No qualms about loving a man after dating only women during his 30 years. Fortunately, there is very little angst. I enjoyed the cameos of people from previous books in this series. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

Low drama, high heat, and total feel-good vibes. I devoured this one and loved every second! Liam and Ollie’s connection was effortless, and Ollie’s bi-awakening was refreshingly chill (we love a smooth self-discovery arc!).

Their chemistry? Off the charts. And those steamy scenes? Chef’s kiss.

A little miscommunication popped up, but it was resolved quickly no drawn-out drama here. Just a genuinely sweet romance that left me smiling.

Highly recommend the whole series if you’re craving something steamy, soft, and satisfying!

This was a sweet story of friends to lovers. Liam has been in love with his best friend Ollie forever but Ollie was married and straight. When Ollie's wife asks for a divorce he starts seeing Liam in a new way.

This was a sweet low angst story. Good steam and fun moments between Ollie and Liam.

I'm excited for the spin off series about Ollie's brothers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining friends-to-lovers romance

4.25/5 This was an entertaining, low-angst read, with my favourite kind of bi-awakening, where the MC is maybe a bit surprised they didn’t figure it out earlier, but there’s no angst, internalised homophobia, or self-hatred. I thought the story did an excellent job of making no one the bad guy. Liam has had these feelings forever but has carefully not acted on them. Ollie has been married and a bit oblivious, but has been trying to make his marriage work even if it doesn’t really. And Josie has been doing the same thing, until a job offer is the tipping point for admitting this isn’t working and moving on. (Although I think her reveal could have been better, I appreciate very much she wasn’t the evil ex.)

Liam and Ollie have such a close and affectionate relationship that it’s really the quintessential friends-to-lovers. They know everything about one another, and once they’re free to realise those stronger feelings, they are all in. I liked how their likes complemented one another, and it was fun to see them have such perfect dates because they knew one another so well.

The misunderstanding made sense in the heat of the moment and doesn’t go on for too long, and the two of them are really just so well matched, it’s a pleasure to see them figure that out and start living the HEA of their dreams.

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
