Kian's Focus (Brigs Ferry Bay, Book 2): A small-town, hurt/comfort, gay romance Kindle Edition
I lost my boyfriend on the night I had planned to propose.
It was a horrific accident that was all my fault.
I gave up and resigned myself into a life of obscurity.
Until I got a call that my sister, Sara, needed me.
It gave me purpose and I ran to her rescue. Because that’s what I’ve done our whole lives.
That’s how I ended up in Brigs Ferry Bay.
But when I showed up, things were so much worse than I thought.
She was sullen, fragile, and sinking into a depression I didn’t know how I’d get her out of.
Together, we were drowning.
Until I met Kian.
He’s everything I’m not.
Bouncy, bubbly, full of life, and an innate ability to make everything better.
He makes me believe I can be happy again.
Now the unthinkable has happened and Sara is on the verge of losing her life.
Once again, it’s all my fault.
Kian had clouded my vision with promises of hope and forever.
I was so stupid to believe I could be happy again.
I try push him away.
To shove him out of the darkness that follows me.
I don’t want him to suffer the future fate had secured me to.
But Kian’s focus is on me
And he’s used to getting what he wants.
*Trigger warning: this book deals with mental health, suicide, and loss.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2022A great book. I loved Jaxon and Dante’s book more but still a great read. I didn’t like how Liam came across at the beginning. He took on a new angle form the previous book I didn’t care for. He came across as self centered and egotistical. And honestly the way he spoke of Dante and Jaxon turned me off. Especially because to expect someone to forcibly come out of the closet because your ready isn’t fair. They were both at fault for the demise of their relationship. But Liam didn’t recognize that until almost the end of the book. He was the bratty gay that loved to think that everyone wanted him and I don’t know why but it took away from the way the was presented in the previous book. The. It took a turn when he met archer and basically forced friendship upon him that grew from there. Archer wasn’t ready for a
Relationship and honestly they both used each other. Kian forced archer into things he wasn’t ready for despite laying it all for kian. And archer had his life implode and almost unfairly leaned on kian. But it was all offered help. So I’m ambiguous about it. I feel like I feel for how kian keep putting himself out there when he realized he shouldn’t have friendzoned them, but they also needed that space with everything going on. But then again he kept expecting more and never having a conversation with archer. And archer just didn’t communicate at all until he had too. I loved them both way more by the end of the book. They grew and learned about themselves and each other. Hilarious end.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2021I don't know who I was endeared to more: Kian, Archer, or Sara (Archer's sister). This was an opposites attract, friends-to-lovers romance about two men who were reluctant to fall in love. I loved the dynamic between these two: Archer was surly and adamant that love want in the cards for him anymore, and Kian was a down-on-his-luck-with-love guy that wanted love wholeheartedly, but could never seen to make it work.
Archer and Kian's chemistry was lust-filled and yet tender. They've both gone without for so long that they hardly fight their desires for one another, yet they know the delicate line they walk with what the other has experienced. Kian and his crew is friends are fun and spunky, and Archer and his sister are serious and foreboding.
There were feelings like crazy in this book, and some drama with Archer's sister Sara that had me goes to the pages. Overall, I loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021Ah bummer! I really wanted to like this story more than I actually did...I’m kind of disappointed that I didn’t.
After reading Sheriff's Secret, the first book in this new series, I was quite excited to start this one. It's my first Misty Walker book and the blurb sounded interesting enough.
I have to admit I started skimming at about 30%. I really had a hard time connecting with Kian. To be honest, I didn't like him, which wasn't really the case in the first book, so I wonder how that happened. He seemed kind of different here, not at all the kind of person I was expecting. I found him to be a bit too self absorbed, thinking too much about himself. I didn't like the way he acted around Jax, because I think he was just as much to blame for the failure of their teenage relationship than Jax was. And also: they were teenagers back then. Maybe he was hurt and maybe his heart was broken, but it happened a long time ago. Life goes on and so should he.
Then there was Archer and he was another character I didn't really feel, like I never felt the connection between Kian and Archer. Their 'relationship' was way too insta for my liking. I would have thought Archer would be too devastated by his fiancé's death, and even though it was mentioned he was sad and grieving, I didn't FEEL his sadness or his grief.
But then Archer's and Kian's relationship suddenly went on hold because of Sara's mental health. I never understood what happened there. Instead of being there for each other - which I think should be the first thing to do when two people really like each other - they broke up. Which almost turned Sara into another MC, (and don't get me wrong, her depression and all that came with that was described really well) but I didn't want her to be such a huge part of this story. I wanted more Archer and Kian together, I wanted to see how their love grew when they needed each other the most instead of seeing them break up. It didn't make sense to me.
What I also didn't understand was why Kian went to Jarrett and talked about Archer and told him everything about his first time sex with Archer. I get that Jarrett is his friend, but aren't some things private between two lovers?
And later on in the story, when he should have talked to Archer instead, Kian went to Jarrett again.
Jarrett is one of those mc's I didn't like. Maybe I'm too old and I don't get how people talk nowadays, but I didn't like the 'b*tches' thing he had going all the time.
Ah, sigh...I really wanted to like this book. It's not the writing itself, because Misty Walker knows how to do that, but I think I just have to admit that this story didn't work for me at all. I found it hard how to rate and ended up with 3 stars because despite the fact that I didn't want Sara's story to take over, I do think the author handled her depression well. And the writing was good. So hence the 3 stars.
I want to read Callan's story, the next one in this series, because he was an interesting character from the first book, but I'm not sure if I will continue reading after that one. I usually enjoy small town stories, but there's just so much homophobia around Brigs Ferry Bay, I'm not sure whether I want to continue reading about that.
I guess that's all a matter of different tastes and different expectations. What doesn't work for one, might work perfectly for any other reader. This review is my personal opinion, but I see a lot of raving reviews too, so please, don't let my negativity keep you from reading if you are interested. You might have a complete different experience than I had.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2021Kian’s Focus is a small town MM romance novel full of lust, love and sexy hot chemistry 🔥🔥🔥
After Archer lost his almost fiancée he’s given up to commit to any relationships. Moving into small town to be close to his sister while she’s also dealing with her own struggles after nasty marriage failure, he’s got to know the quirky sexy bar owner Jax who’s also still dealing with the loss off his first love that chose family over him.
After few hook ups they decided to stick to friend only however the challenges they are faced with bring them closer together.
This is a beautiful MM story with HEA and full of hot steamy scenes 🥵
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2023An unconventional meeting and not much in common, these two give into their insta-attraction until life gets in the way. Kian steps up in a huge way to help but they find themselves in the friend zone. We get to know Kians friends a bit more when he needs them. Archer just wants to fix everything for Sara but she needs to help herself first. Sweet guys , cute kids and nosy neighbors.

5.0 out of 5 stars My M/M loving heart…
Kian’s Focus, Brigs Ferry Bay’s second book in the series, did not disappoint.
My M/M loving heart was so happy with Misty Walker’s ability to write such an intense story.
It tugged at my heartstrings with a tragic opening scene, and again at the end of the last chapter (right before the epilogue). I can’t say more than that without giving something away, but ugh, my heart!
Kian and Archer, such opposites in many ways, have to fight for their HEA. And fight they did. I felt their frustration, their disappointment, their heartbreak, their vulnerability, and their love.
If you enjoy an emotional ride where the characters have to earn their happiness, this is the story for you.
I can’t wait to follow the rest of the characters in this wonderful little town. Thanks to authors Misty Walker and K. Webster’s incredible storytelling, I’m completely hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adore this story
I adored the first book in the series, but this had the added tragedy that pulled at my heartstrings from the first page.
Both MCs were likeable characters. I loved Kian's approach to life, not hiding anything, saying what needed to be said. Too many times in books the MCs don't say what they want or need to say in situations and it causes me anxiety knowing it's going to come back and bite them on the backside, but it was refreshing not to feel that.
I loved more than anything that Archer's attraction to Kian was so strong. Not his usual type in any way but he wanted him immediately and that never wained. I also loved that Kian, despite being funny, was taken seriously as both a businessman and a man in general. Some books I've read have reduced men similar to Kian in personality to a no substance, flamboyant gay man that so often is portrayed in films for comedy effect. Kian made me laugh with his witty one liners, but I took him seriously and respected him from the off, it was refreshing.
It was also spicy and that aspect was so well written it had me sweating!
First book I have read by this author and I wan't wait for more, the writing was beautiful, the book made me smile, laugh, cry and more. Highly recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Kian & Archer
Kians story is good but his love interest Archer, his story is very heart wrenching. He’s lost so much and Kian is doing his best to help him through it but he is always in that mid set of “why am I not good enough.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute!
First read by this author. I've read K Webster who is the other author in this series so of course i was gonna read this one. To my relief i was impressed!
This one is sweeter than Sheriff and maybe more angsty but i loved it just as much but in a different way.
Whereas Sheriff i guess was more of a thriller this is an overcoming tragedy story.
Poor Archer. He broke my heart. Such a rubbish childhood filled with responsibility and needing to be his sisters guardian he thought he'd finally found happiness for himself only to have it snatched away. His sister calls him for help when he's at his lowest and because he feels like her parent he drags himself there. When he gets there things are worse than he thought and he needs to be the dependable one again. He carries the world on his shoulders and his only bright light is meeting Kian.
Kian is fabulous! Also thankfully very understanding and selfless. Kian instantly feels the connection between him and the sad man who just moved to town. With his own baggage of his past Kian struggles with knowing he'd always be second to Archers family responsibilities but he can't help himself. He's drawn to Archer and tries to be his casual self with mixed results. He's very patient but how long can he wait for Archer to feel the same?
Theres a lot of angst these two go through. Heartbreaking for both of them. There were times when i felt they both were a bit selfish. But i guess thats how real life is. Archer had to look after his sister and the kids. He had so much responsibility. Kian was used to just looking after himself and then suddenly found himself a ready made family and responsibility without actually being attached to them. I loved how he went to his friends to get out his worries. I loved how open he was about his feelings. He's the complete opposite to Archer and thats what made them work.
Theres a lot of stop starts with them, life did not make it easy for them. It was a well fought battle and thankfully they evertually won.
Both MC's were great and i loved them, the only thing i would say is i thought some important parts of their relationship were glossed over a little. Weeks of dates were only mentioned in passing when i think the connection between them would have felt much stronger if we would have seen more of that. It was all there but i felt it needed just a touch more to make you feel their connection. There was so much going on and that was fine, the storyline pulled me in, but it just needed a bit more of them together as a couple is all and i would have given it 5 stars. As it is i'm giving it a 4 plus.
I did enjoy it and i can't wait for the rest of the series! I'm so invested in the side characters and the breacrumbs being laid by both authors for their stories is brilliant. I want them all ASAP!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab read
Just finished Kian’s Focus and found it very enjoyable. I loved the background about Archer’s story and how both he and Kian fitted together so well. Kian is such a caring person and deserved to find his other half after his disappointment with Jaxon when they were young. Well worth the read. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. Keep them coming girls.
