Kala: The Indian Street Dog who Travelled the World Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

**All proceeds will be donated to Pet Rescue**

Kala was born on the streets of India. Since her rescue, Kala has travelled to 25 countries and lived in four. Her story is being sold to help raise funds to enable other rescue dogs to find their forever homes. This story is the beginning of her new life of adventure…
-----
A tale of adventure, compassion and determination as a young couple adjust to life in India, fall in love with a street dog and defy all odds to take her 30,000km to a new life in Australia

When they moved to India, Rochelle and John shunned the expatriate lifestyle in favour of understanding the true India. Their story provides an interesting and often humorous insight into life in a developing country. As they explore their new city, they meet a thin black street dog that had the power to change their lives.

Kala lived outside Rochelle’s office and feeling sorry for her, she started to feed her. Seeing Kala soon became the highlight of Rochelle’s day so when she fell pregnant and faced euthanasia by the local pound, they decided to adopt her. After life on the streets, Kala became very sick and once again they came to her rescue.

As things start to settle, life takes another turn. Rochelle and John need to relocate to Australia. Faced with strict quarantine requirements, Kala could not travel directly to Australia. They arrange to fly Kala to the USA to begin her 8 month journey to her new home in Sydney.

Kala’s story is an inspirational tale of how two people overcome numerous challenges to keep their family together.

Amazing book!!! This book made me shed tears out of happiness, out of sadness and out of anxiety. Being a dog mom myself, I could totally relate to the anxiety during her hospitalization and even during the airplane ride. I could completely feel the happiness she experiences when kala learns new things. I love how the author portrayed her journey before and after Kala in such detail. Even though they had so many hurdles to overcome and so many challenges to face, she made it seem like the most beautiful experience. Like the security guard said “Thank you for taking her and for giving her a new life.” I totally felt the joy and had a huge smile on my face while reading this paragraph-
"She clearly felt the same as her whole bum was wagging. We both reached down and gave her a huge hug."

This book has inspired me to work with non profit organizations in India who help animals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring story of how mighty oak trees from little acorns grow

I had the privilege of working with Rochelle a few years ago. She always struck me as a focused and driven person, but always with humility. This book is a testament to how, with application and hard work, a very special outcome can be achieved. I had followed Kala's story on Facebook for some time and was, therefore, thrilled when I heard that Rochelle had published the story. I am very impressed how such a moving journey has been conveyed without decent into mawkishness. It is a very human story, but as a dog owner and lover, the love for this addition to a family is shown in a really personal way. Great read and looking forward to Kala 2, the Next Stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kala Kutta, the amazing Indian street dog and international traveller

I bought the book two nights ago, read it by the next day. It is wonderful, especially after Kala Kutta enters it. Amazing dog, amazingly devoted parents and other human, all of which I appreciated even more as mum to two street dogs, one of whom we have nursed for seven months through pancreatitis. Anyone who likes dogs will love the story of Kala Kutta.
