About the author

R. Moores writes fiction and poetry. He lives in Wellington, New Zealand.
Moores is fascinated by spirituality, religion, cults, horror, politics, revolution, and so much more. His first novel, Kāpiti Kvlt, is a meta teen slasher horror comedy hangout.
His 2020 novella, 'Office Aliens,' is a black comedy dealing with the existential terrors of modern life. It has been described as a scathing hate note against modern capitalism and a compelling read for our times.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2022Two kinds of stories I really love: friend gang adventures (especially told from back in the day) and dark magic lore. To my delight, KAPITI KVLT is both of these.
A teenager of the '90s, I was every one of these kids, even Saskia. The teenaged angst, the intoxicating allure of the night, chaos and heady lust and lots of weed-smoking and mixtapes--this book has so much to which I can relate.
Be advised, though, KAPITI KVLT is not for the faint of heart. Without giving away any spoilers, the book starts off fun and innocent (kind of... not really) and gets darker and bloodier as the chapters turn. It's full of wit and grimy banter and pop culture all tied up with a blood-soaked ribbon of occult and rebellion.
If you like Stephen King, Dan Brown, 20th Century slasher films, and THE EXORCIST, you'll really dig this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2022Not ready for the spooky season to be over? Grab yourself a copy of Kapiti Kvlt! Moores masterfully uses late 90’s culture, combining teen slasher and unhinged religious zealotry, to create a story best read through splayed fingers. A horror lovers delight!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2022Another great book from R. Moores.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2022I thoroughly enjoyed Roy Moores latest novel. Moores introduces readers unfamiliar with any of his previous works with the spiritual and cultural aspects of life in New Zeland. He again explores the Maori people and uses Samoan slang to reveal the underlying tension between certain characters; a subplot.
The pop culture references are enjoyable. The goth teen Saskia, and her allusions to black metal and gothic culture, stands out as particularly well written. The running motif in the battle of good and evil is also rather engrossing as it pertained to the misunderstood Saskia, and the fanatical Leah.
I highly recommend giving this one a shot.

4.0 out of 5 stars 90’s Stranger Things meets The Conjuring…
After really enjoying Office Aliens by this author, I was lucky to grab the opportunity to beta read this dark little gem in its early drafts. Kapiti Kvlt is a quirky story spinning many genres such as horror, dark comedy, fantasy, sci-fi and the supernatural.
The book follows a group of teenagers who are going out on a bang, to party, drink, smoke and much more. In the middle of the party frenzy, they discover a clay golem has been resurrected and its motive… to hurt, maim…. and kill. But why has it targeted them? Who is behind the summoning?
Moores creates a unique piece paying homage to 1990’s and early 2000’s pop culture and heavy metal and rock music. I really liked that this was a story set in New Zealand and it embodied the culture and references to the Māori language. I highly recommend this novella if you have a thing for the occult, dark humour, conspiracy theories and much more. Congratulations Rory! Looking forward to your next project!
