Kate's Railroad Chef (Train Wreck in Jubilee Springs Book 3) Kindle Edition
Garland McAllister works as the Jubilee Springs ticket agent for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. Having been a stutterer all his life, he has dealt with ridicule and social rejection by developing quiet interests, like reading and cooking. He soon finds himself drawn to Kate, especially after he rescues her from a train wreck. Unfortunately, she came to town to become another man’s wife. Since she cannot be his, and it is unlikely he will easily find a woman willing to marry a stutterer, he decides to fulfill his other dream—becoming a chef. He starts the new year by opening his own restaurant during the weekend hours he does not work for the railroad. But how can he manage employees—assuming he can eventually afford to hire some—or take food orders when the more stress he’s under, the more difficult he finds it to speak clearly?
In spite of careful planning, on opening night, more people than Garland anticipated show up to order supper. Things begin to fall apart and failure rears its ugly head. Along with his heart, is his business doomed? Or will he succeed in fulfilling both his dreams?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024I most definitely enjoyed reading this book! It is very well written and pleasantly written in a wholesome fashion. I really don't enjoy books with sexual situations or descriptions of intimacy. This book is a good old fashioned love story, and this author is very skilled at writing. I recommend this book and this author!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2021Well written characters and an engaging story that flows with the ebbings of normal life. The encouraging adventure draws one along with chuckles and drama. The proofing is impeccable and only a couple of tiny historical or technical errors. It is a relief to read an author who knows the legal age of majority was 21 years old (not until the 1960's was it lowered to 18) and the ramifications of the law, especially for women. There is no profanity, erotica, violence or disturbing imagery. It is enjoyable to read characters that are the kind of people one desires to be when they grow up ; ).

- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2023I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Kate. It flowed so well, I didn't want to stop reading it.
I had read the one before it about Annie's adventure and I'm glad I did. It's not necessary as each book stands alone but I found I liked knowing what happened before. I recommend both books.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2021This is book three of Train Wreck in Jubilee Springs. All three are great but this one was my favorite. It did have some repeated stuff from the other two books but that’s for the readers who haven’t read the others. So although this is part of the series you can ( but really wouldn’t want to) read it alone.
The relationships in these books are so sweet and work so well with the way this author writes. She adds just enough description to let you think you are on the train, fighting the storm, working on the cafe or being in love. She doesn’t describe every little leaf so it doesn’t get boring. You certainly will not regret the time you spend on these books
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2021Jubilee Springs, CO December 1881
Prepare to feel like you are there as the scenes begin to unfold, when Zina brings us along on a journey that will warm your heart.
On her way to Jubilee Springs as a mail order bride for one of the miners, Kate and her companions end up with their train getting stuck in an avalanche across the rails. Hitting her head, she has a hard time staying alert and warm.
Garland, who works in the ticket office, but is in charge of the passengers, while his boss is away, gathers a rescue effort and finds Kate almost unconscious. He tries to keep her warm while he waits for more help.
I loved these two. They truly needed each other, if only Kate could get out of marrying the miner. I could not wait to see what would happen!
Don't miss this addition to this fabulous series and I cannot wait for more!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2021Too much like the first book I read. There needs to be more independent text between the two books. It is a great book with a great ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2021Mail order bride is heading to Jubilee Falls. Great time for a chance to start a life close to her sister and leaving a hard family situation behind. Kate is cheerful and has a delightful Irish Brogue and a very practical nature that allows her to roll up her sleeves and pitch in where she sees a need!
But her train ride out to her new life and a new husband doesn’t start off so well.
I like how she was able to see beyond the outside appearance and look at the heart of those around her.
