Kickflip (Roadmap to Your Heart) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 284 ratings

Tattoo artist Cory Easton has been going through the motions—taking care of his grandmother and his dogs while working long hours—and staying busy enough to keep the noise in his head at bay. Until he lays eyes on the quiet and aloof skateboarder Jude York, who is so unreadable, unreachable, and unlike anyone else, he arouses Cory’s curiosity.

As captivating and complex as his ink, Jude is a mystery, and Cory falls fast and hard under his spell. But rumors about Jude’s past overshadow him, whispers of secrets keeping him under the thumb of a local motorcycle club. As Cory digs deeper, he begins to wonder how much he really wants to know.

Except their connection is magnetic, and Jude’s loneliness seems to mirror Cory’s own. Against his better judgment, Cory longs for another opportunity to make the guy smile, even if peeling back too many layers scares the hell out of him. Because Jude has awakened something inside him that’s been buried far too long—and losing him as well might just be Cory's undoing.

**PLEASE NOTE: This book was formerly titled There You Stand before a rights reversion from the publisher. It’s been newly edited, with bonus material added, plus a new cover and title.

**This standalone is essentially a prequel to my Roadmap to Your Heart series, the first two books focusing on the MC club mentioned in Kickflip. You can also find some characters from my MF Between Breaths series and Golden Arrow Casino series, if you’re curious

This story was very engaging and a lot of fun, even around all the angst of mistrust and fear. For someone who knows a decent bit about tattoos but nearly nothing about skate boarding, it was nice to read something that appears to be well-researched. A worthy read!
For the record, the new title fits the story so much better than the generic ambiguity of the original. “Kick Flip” is a title that will stick in my mind with its relatable storyline. IMO, the original title “There You Stand” would just fade into the background with all the other vague and boring titles in this genre and may not have caught my interest enough to bother reading. Besides, after reading it now, the new title at least makes sense! I’m very glad it was changed.

I truly loved Cory and Jude’s story and I read it in one sitting! This was a bit of a departure from a usual read for me on the hurt/comfort aspect and I couldn’t be more glad that I went outside that zone for myself. Jude just grabbed me from the start and my heart aches for his sadness and I loved seeing him slowly open up to Cory. In turn, Cory’s patience with Jude, never giving up and holding true to himself, just kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue surrounding Jude’s past and present. The chemistry between Cory and Jude was palpable and was super hot. I truly enjoyed Cory and Jude’s story and I can’t wait to read more about the other characters in this book in the follow up series! I couldn’t recommend this book more! Truly wonderful, but make sure to have a tissue handy - you may need it!

It’s been several years since I read this series, but I remember enjoying it well enough and I know I really liked the first book. I found this book to be just ok. The story and main characters aren’t especially interesting or exciting. The book was weirdly dramatic with the guys almost having a contest over who has the most angsty background. I also never really felt any chemistry between Jude and Cory, so the relationship parts were boring. But that’s ok; this book just wasn’t for me. I typically love Christina’s books and will continue to one-click new releases!

This was an MM with a HEA about Cory, a tattoo artist and a somewhat mysterious guy Jude he falls for.

I really liked this one right from the start because I seem to like the writing style first of all. I like how it starts progressing slowly unlike so many in the genre. There's no too many characters to confuse you and to keep up with the names either for me. There's nothing too much or too little, nothing confusing, nothing to go back and forth for clearing up which I detest. No immediate sex scenes either. No too long descriptions. It's something that feels like real. I liked the characters and it was a pleasant read. An easy read for me. Easy to keep up with, not hard to concentrate on it.

This was great. A tattoo artist and a skateboarder. Jude is hard to draw out but Cory speaks enough for the both of them. They fall in love after realizing that both have been through some really bad times. Jude is still dealing with some scary possibilities and wants to keep Cory safe. Things come together and they live HEA.

    Kickflip || Christina Lee

Tattoo artist, Cory has been going through a rough few years, after an accident leaves him with a back injury and 2 dogs to look after - as well as his grandma.

When Jude comes in to get a tattoo, he is intrigued and attracted to the quiet and private skater. He doesn’t really speak, but they run into each all over town, and form a quiet bond. Jude is getting a large tree tattoo on his back to cover up a myriad of scars which has Cory even more intrigued. When they start to spend more time together, and Jude starts actually talking to him they get closer and admit to having feelings for each other.

““True or false,” I said, leaning forward. “You want me to touch you.” He trembled.
    “Yes. More than anything.””

But even though Cory shares details about his past, Jude still refuses to open up to him - saying he can’t, that it is dangerous. It frustrates Cory, but he can’t stay away, neither of them can. They share a few intimate moments before Jude is finally open with Corey and they spend a night together. But one night isn’t enough and they navigate the demons of Jude’s past together.

I really liked this story, I thought it was super sweet and had some lovely intimate moments.

““Jude?” My thumb lazily circled his stomach. There was a question I’d been gearing up to ask him for days.
“Hmmm?” he replied, his fingers still grazing my temples.
“That note you wrote me,” I mumbled. “When you had to leave…”
“Meant every single word,” he said without hesitation, then curled his arm over my waist, settling in.
“Thank God,” I murmured. “Because I love you too.””

Kick flip is the story of two gay men Cory Easton an amazing tattoo artist who looks after his grandmother and split from his ex-boyfriend six months earlier. He is adrift in his life and lonely. He was also involved in a bad motor-cycle accident several years before and still suffers from the after-effects. Jude York is alone and hardly speaks. He is from England and is a talented skateboarder who performs a kick flip with ease, but he has a mysterious past and appears to be involved with the Disciples, a local motor cycle gang. Jude comes to Cory's tattoo shop and specifically asks Cory to do an elaborate tattoo he has designed to cover up some awful scars on his back. Cory is already intrigued by Jude and finds himself drawn to Jude wanting to unravel the mystery of where he came from and why he seems to be "under the protection" of the Disciples. The story slowly reveals Jude's horrific past and when it comes back to haunt him in a big way Cory realises he doesn't want to lose Jude.
This is a great story and the chemistry between Cory and Jude is explosive.
The novel is a standalone but is also linked to two other books by Christina Lee called The Darkest Flame and The Faintest Spark.

I love the characters Christina creates. Bennett was my first - he was so sweet. And now I've got Jude and Cory.

If you read the blurb you know this is M/M. For me love is love, romance is romance.

How loud did I squee when I found out Jude is British and from Yorkshire, just like me? Jude was a lovely tortured soul who was reluctant to share his story. Boy did he have a way with dogs - a proper dog whisperer. In my head Jude is Heath Ledger (God bless him) around the time of Knight's Tale. I even found a picture of Heath with a skate board.

Cory, another sad soul. He dotes on his grandma, dotes on his dogs and still misses his first love. His breath is taken away by Jude.

"His voice startled me again. It was like living for years without the sound of rain. That first downpour was noisier and more breathtaking than you ever imagined."

"When you're around, that quiet stillness inside me doesn't feel so lonely."

Two lost souls. I was rooting for them to be ok. There are shadows on the horizon that threaten their future happiness.

Review part 2 - reading as Kickflip.

Toad in the hole is flipping ace! I loved how Christina changed subtle parts of the book without losing the sweetness of the story.

Of course I’m going to say Jude’s dialect is spot on! It made me chuffed to bits.
