Killshot: Icarus Series, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 168 ratings

When 17 year old Liv Larson and her brother are sent to separate foster homes, she becomes content with her isolation and dedicates her every breath to getting him back. After months of solitude and anti-social behavior, Liv's best friend Riley drags her to a Rooftop Party to view Icarus (the once in a lifetime solar flare) where Liv finds herself inexplicably drawn to Zander James, the mysterious boy with the crooked smile.

For a few hours, Liv's troubles finally feel a bit less overwhelming-that is until what should have been a small flare erupts into a massive solar storm forcing them all to seek shelter in the school's basement. Cut off from the rest of the world and with no signs of rescue, fear and paranoia set in and battle lines are drawn, dividing their ranks. What is left the group must embark on a perilous journey to save one of their own and find their families... but, something sinister awaits them in the shadows and it's undeniably connected to Liv.

Can Liv keep her promise to reunite with her brother? What are she and her friends willing to do to survive? Will their bravery and determination be enough to save them all from a rogue government, a terrifying virus, and the things that go bump in the night…Or was Icarus, indeed, The Killshot?

Hands down this is a great read. I was going to say the best YA book I’ve ever read (which it is) but then I realized that pigeon holing like that did it an injustice. Yes all the main characters are teen-age high school students but I personally think the author did such a great job in storytelling and character development that any age will enjoy (remember I’m over 50). Normally I find that even in a good YA story as a full-grown adult I have to do a lot of sighing and counting to 10 (sometimes higher) and reminding myself that the characters are teenagers so of course I find their emotional angst and behavior to be exasperating. I didn’t have to do that ONCE in this novel. Which isn’t to say there aren’t characters I didn’t want to smack, there are (and what good book doesn’t have characters that work your nerve?) Unlike a lot of other YA authors Aria Michaels did not write a novel that is just a non-G rated fairy tale about finding true love at the age of 17. Yes she had a love story/romance element but it was not the driving force of her story. She did not claim to have a story and then simply write a grown up harlequin romance with teenagers. She has a well-developed plot that not only held my interest it made me lose myself in the plot.

Aria Michaels says the genre of this book is dystopia, thanks to that seriously over-rated series that is now an even more over-rate successful movie chain I was worried that I wouldn’t care for it. Obviously I worried for naught. She did a great job of creating a world set in the dystopia genre that as a reader I could completely believe might come to pass. If you have a YA it allows for great societal discussions over the dinner table.

I think I can sum up how please I am with this read by saying that normally I purchase my Amazon books from the 99 cents list, this time I paid 4.99 and think it was worth every penny and then some. My only complaint is I want to read the sequel and it isn’t released yet.

Killshot is an exceptional read! I couldn't put it down! I was drawn in from the start. The words flowed off the page effortlessly and was beautifully written. I could tell there was much research and though put into the story line which gave it such a better appeal to it.

The characters had such appeal and strong purpose. They seem to have their own battles they struggled with that each caused them to become little stronger. I think that create red a stronger character in each one thus, causing a leader in each. For example, Liv, she bared so much lose being an orphan, yet she is so strong. Could it be the exposure to what it was out there? Some maybe think so.

Liv's character evolves over time and shows us how much bonds should be not only with friends but with others. She meets a guy from the start. Is it first love? Maybe.

Zander is a guy that a magnet from the start.
He has a past too and is is drawn to her in so many ways. Together they fight the battles and time is not on their side.

This story is truly amazing and the author challenges trough out the entire store line. It is and amazing store. I've actually enjoyed it because it was my first apocalypse I will be reading more because of it. Not just because of it but because of their store it was a wonderful store. Great job Aria!

Want to know how i feel about Killshot? EPIC thats what i feel!!! What an incredible read! Absolutely loved it. So now i am unpatiently waiting for book 2! Did i say this dystopia was epic yet?? Well in any case it is!! When i first started the story, Olivia Larson was standoff-ish. Not telling me to much but just enough to peek my interest. As it progresses i found myself wanting to just give her a hug or maybe shake her a bit. That being said, i really enjoyed seeing the characters growth. She really is a badass chick. While she is in 1 foster home, her brother is in another. So sad. How terrible is that? She ends up making a really close friend by the name of Riley. Riley is a great girl and helps Liv with everything she can. The solar flare occurence coming up soon, Riley sets up a party at school for her and some friends to attend and watch the flare. The party was on the schools rooftop which was pretty cool to do. Liv was skeptical about going to the party but since it was her best friends party she went. What happens during it with all the crazy beautiful skylines is one thing but then things take a huge turn. Icarus was something none of them seen coming. EPIC craziness ensues and it sucked me right in!!! I could not put the story down, and when i did, i was thinking about it. The suspense takes a hold of you and NEVER lets you go. Even with the last sentence she still has you so intently engrossed in the story!! So yes its a cliffhanger and it may leave you in a bit of a hangover...but man is it worth the ride!!(in my sing song voice) you will love it !! I'm truly stoked to see what Aria has in store for the next installment in this series. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so i'm not giving up any details but 1....You will fall in love with this story and Zander hehe

Why did I wait to read this book! I was hooked from page one until the very end! I'm so glad there's a book 2 because I don't want this journey to end. Liv, Zander and the gang are all amazing characters that you can see yourself being friends with. Cannot wait to get stuck into book 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars An extremely capable and readable fantasy disaster novel

This is a thoroughly enjoyable, extremely well written book. Amazing in fact if this is indeed a debut. The descriptions of loss and death and survival are extremely compelling. The small matter of a complete lack of information is capably and carefully exploited. I could quite happily have gone without the "zombie disease" aspect which follows the group leaving the School basement - by that time I was engrossed and happy to follow their journey. However it is all very well done. I wasn't a big fan of the romance aspects which were a bit overwraught for my tastes. Finally, it is often the case that these titles are published without proper review by an editor and this is a good example of that problem. Somewhere around the mid-section of the book the pages become riddled with spelling errors - like "where" missing the "h" so it came out were - and the occasional missing word. Very sad given how well written the book is - it would clearly benefit from another review. Well worth the money to read though. I look forward to more from her.
