Kingdom of Faewood (Fae of Woodlands & Wild Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,087 ratings

The all-knowing semelees swirled around me in the Veiled Between, crooning and writhing. “You’ve come to us, Daughter of Darkness, Princess of Shadows. Tell us what you seek.”

On the Silten continent, I’m the only fae who can walk the Veiled Between. My rare power is immense and dangerous, so the authorities have entrusted me to my guardian who controls my potent magic with an enchanted device.

To avoid the device’s searing punishment, I submit to a dutiful life. Until one terrifying night everything changes.

I’m taken captive by the ruthless Dark Raider—an outlaw wanted in all four kingdoms, who hides behind a mask, and has a body created for sin.

But the Raider whispers a promise I can’t resist—use my magic to find who he seeks, and he’ll obliterate my chains.

Finally, the freedom I’ve craved is within my reach.

Yet finding who he hunts plunges me into a game of deceit among the kingdoms. After uncovering truths I was never meant to know, I’m caught in a web of betrayal, and if I can’t find a way to break free, I’ll have simply traded one imprisonment for another.

I want to see Elowen free!, all her life Elowen has been a slave, but when a sexy dangerous male kidnaps her she gets a taste of freedom only to fall a victim of lies once again! I loved the mystery of the male character, and surely but slowly Elowein begins to imaged a life of freedom and being the ower of her own life and power. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book now that she knows who Jax is and what he stands for, I'm hoping to see more romance😍 from the two characters because I am hooked on this series now!

WARNING! This ends on a bit of a cliffhanger- which is to say it leaves us hanging, but doesn’t rate too high on my trauma scale (3/5), because it is more of a hook for the next chapter, than being left in the middle of a crisis.

Elowen’s special abilities have led to her being collared, and used her entire life, but her guardian has promised her freedom when she reaches her thirtieth year.
Before she can make it to that point, she is captured by someone else, and shown the truths that have been hidden from her all this time…

An enjoyable, slow-burn romantasy, this is just the start of Elowen and Jax’s journey, so there is very little steam in this book.
There is, however, plenty of magic, and some intriguing plot developments that are will make you wonder where this story is heading. An entertaining tale, I’m looking forward to seeing where it heads next.

A stunning world is created in this first book. I’ve devoured it in a night and pre ordered the next two in anticipation. This is an author who knows how to create a complex world with characters that have depth. I actually mourned for the main character multiple times as I read, fighting a lump in my throat and empathizing with her fierce desire to be free. Absolutely recommend for those seeking more substance to their fantasy reading. Jax is a slow burn worth waiting for, though Im left currently angry for her.

Elowen and Jax are wonderful new MCs and I can’t wait to see what happens next for them.

The story starts off kind of slow and there were times I wanted to slap Elowen for being to submissive and at times whiny but then she would bounce back as she is trying to find her truth throughout the circumstances she finds herself in when abducted by Jax.

I both love and hate the ending in this book for them. But if they had their HEA there wouldn’t be a need for more stories.

I can’t wait to see what happens and how Jax wins Elowen back after caging her again. Definitely hooked to this new series!

I can’t deal with yet another female lead with no backbone whatsoever.

She finds out her slaver murdered her mother, kidnapped her as a baby
he enslaved and abused her for decades and she’s worried about upsetting him over a dress that he bought. Jesus. I could almost say I hate this book.

Her so-called “guardian” pimps her out, forcing her to use her magic for his financial gain even though it causes her excruciating pain every time, which she has to recover from. He hits her, uses her collar to shock her, forces her to show her boobs and other parts to men for money.

That’s not the problem. The problem is her believing she’s his daughter and fawning for him through the entire book.
Even when she finds out he killed her mother and lied to her, making her believe her mother abandoned her her whole life, none of that was enough.
Someone even S/A her and her “guardian” walks in and tells him he’ll have to pay more money if he wants to do that her. She still wants to please him.

The Stockholm Syndrome is wayyy too much with her to the point that I had no respect for her nor sympathy.

Even when she finds out her collar can never be removed and that he lied, she’s simply angry with him yet still laments about him being her father and supposedly taking care of her. Like WHAT?! He’s never told her he loves her nor shown an ounce of affection. She’s his literal piggy bank and the reason he has any money at all, he murdered her mother and kidnapped her to amass his fortune, torturing her in the process for 3 decades and she cowers to him, loves him and consistently simps for him.

The writer way overdid it to the point that I had no respect for the MFC.
I thought by half of the book, the writer would stop dragging that out and have the FMC wake up and grow a backbone but nope.

Aside from that, it honestly reads like the writer is stalling on the plot, there’s just chapter after chapter of irrelevance and repetitiveness. The writer constantly repeats and reiterates things she’s already told us.
I’m all for a hero MMC but the writer overexerts the damsel in distress with the MFC, making her completely helpless and docile. She does everything anyone tells her to regardless of what it is. For example, before anything transpires between her and the MMC, he tells her to take her dress off and she immediately starts to get naked even though he meant for her to change in the dressing room. A male grabs her and grinds against her and she doesn’t react. It was far too heavy on the freeze/fawn.

She’s so painfully stupid, one example being her thinking her “guardian” and the king would let her go. Simply living the life she has would make it beyond painfully obvious that they had no intention of giving her up. To believe that in the context of her experiences with them is unbelievably dumb.
She asks so many questions that have painfully obvious answers and/or have already been answered for her. She honestly sounds like a 5 year old the vast majority of the time yet she’s 28. It’s take her way too long to process stuff, all throughout the book.
You can cast a character as innocent and a victim without making them a completely helpless, air-headed damsel with the intelligence of a small child.

I got so tired of her overly-dramatic physical reactions to everything, it, too, was overkill. “I stilled, freezing so completely that I was like a wall of ice on the Solis Continent’s Cliffs of Sarum” (Get used to longer, more drawn out lines like that about her physiological reactions to pretty much everything said and done, you’ll be reading those a lot)
She stilled and completely froze like an ice wall after hearing something she already knew.
Contradictions from writers drive me mad. The MMC is portrayed as a Robin-hood, protecting and giving to the poor and defenseless. Here’s an actual line from the book: But unlike what I thought of him—what everyone thought of him— he wasn’t actually evil.
Umm you said multiple times earlier in the book that everyone sees him as a hero now you’re contradicting that and everyone thinks he’s evil. FFS remember what you write.

It’s also irritating how she knows the MMCs situation, what he does and that he can’t be caught or he’ll be killed yet she can’t STFU when he’s trying to keep where he lives a secret and sneak her in to perform a “calling” that she agreed to. THAT makes her feel betrayed. If only she showed a small fraction of that rebellion toward her mother’s murderer and her abusive enslaver who actually had betrayed her countless times in countless ways yet for the entirety of the book she never shows an ounce of defiance toward him, nor says a single word against him.
It’s also weird that the MMC watches her eat every time, never taking his eyes off her. Idk if the writer finds that romantic but it’s just weird.

If you like an excruciatingly stupid, helpless, defenseless and docile MFC with no backbone or sense of self-preservation, well, here you go.

I've read all of her supernatural world books. I have loved them all. I guessed MMC true identity before it was revealed, but nothing was lacking in this book. It had twists and turns like crazy. I love Jax as a character he's an interesting guy. I can't wait for the next book. Next month can't come soon enough.

it’s fast paced , an amazing slow-burn very frustrating but very promising too, and an engaging plot , simple enough to not make your head spin and intriguing enough to keep you engaged .. I guessed early in who Jax was, so Even if the twist didn’t twist me , I was excited for this reveal and i was not disappointed .. The cliffhanger tho ? I’m drooling for the sequel ..
