The Klowns of Kent: Blue Moon Investigations Book 4 - A Snarky Paranormal Detective Mystery Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,282 ratings

There might be no such thing as werewolves, vampires or ghosts but apparently, evil Klowns are real.

Tempest Michaels is once again investigating ridiculous cases that are clearly not even slightly paranormal in nature. However, his daily menu of fun is interrupted by a plague of men dressed in garish outfits. They wear twisted clown make-up as they terrorise the Kent towns and villages with ever escalating and more frequent attacks.

The Klowns should be a case for the police to solve but their leader appears to have a serious beef with Tempest and they are coming for him and anyone that gets in their way.

Who are the Klowns? What do they want? And what's with the ridiculous smiles?

If they were not enough of a nuisance, he has foolishly employed a woman he is utterly besotted by. Trying to ignore Mr Wriggly’s thoughts about what to do with his new colleague, he goes after his silver medal, a girl he lusted after years ago at school, but while Mr Wriggly might not care tuppence about the difference, is Tempest’s heart really in it?

Throw in a demonic possession, a restaurant with ghostly footsteps and some more meddling by his mother, it looks like another entertaining week for Kent’s best Paranormal Investigator.

Review

"Brilliant, addictive and fully deserving of five stars, at least."

"Mr Higgs crafts a delightful premise of a private investigator solving 'paranormal' crimes and then invites us on the wonderfully convoluted and at times chaotic tales of an investigation to debunk those 'paranormal' cases."

"Another great book about Tempest and Paranormal Investigations. Its a great concept - an investigator proving there is nothing paranormal about a crime. In this case it involves evil klowns (I always thought clowns were evil anyway). The icing on the cake is Tempest's dogs which steal the show every time."

At school, the author was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, he won his first award. However, calling it his first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, he is having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and claims to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in his head as they clamour to get out.He lives in the south-east corner of England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.

Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

Tempest to the rescue, with his friends in danger and his social life in tatters, Tempest must solve the mystery right in front of his. The trusty Scooby Do gang battle Poland attacking all over the city in what appears to be random attacks, but in fact is a targeted agenda by an old foe. Good read for a Friday night.

I have been reading the books in this series and have found myself getting involved with and attached to the characters, each of whom is weird and delightful. The stories themselves are unique and captivating. It isnt often I cannot put a book down and I must credit my lack of sleep to the author. Looking forward to the next one.

I truly think the only reason I chose this book was because of the dachshunds on the cover. Best. Dogs. Ever.

While the dogs are featured, and exactly as dachshunds are, the story was actually very different. Most "cozy" stories revolve around a heroine. This series has a hero. And of course, dachshunds.

Saying I enjoyed this book very much would be silly, as I gave it five stars, something I rarely give a cozy.

The story is very different. I really liked that. Blue Moon Investigations came about by accident, but aa very happy one.

One scene is really explanatory of the series. Read how the ghost in the Italian restaurant is discovered. One of the best parts of the book. Except for the niggling thing our hero forgot. I found myself yelling at him what was forgotten. Alas, he didn't listen.

If you want some silliness, some very intuitive detective work, and a man deeply blessed with good friends, this is for you. The silliness is not just the dogs. Even the worst of criminals have the ability.

    Really loved it!

I've been reading the Blue Moon Investigations series and have enjoyed every one of them. Who would have imagined a story about scary-looking clowns (or Klowns) being so enjoyable? All the characters are so well-written you can see them in your imagination and the plausibility of the plots make the books ones you can read again and again. Definitely another keeper for my personal library!

I’m surprised that I like these books. I’m
a 73 year old woman and these are not my usual type of story. But Tempest is very funny and I enjoy following his very detailed description of his life, including every time he feeds his dogs. He has an interesting array of characters around him: Amanda, Patience, Big Ben, his retired parents, and even Mr Wriggly. This story was a bit bizarre as he differentiated the Klowns from the clowns. And I have to say I don’t enjoy the graphic detail of the physical fights he gets into while doing his investigations. But to those who have trained for such things it may be very interesting.

I finished book 4, and I devoured it as I did 1-3. I love the way this author describes the characters dilemmas. It is so clear and straightforward. Read this series, I am sure you will enjoy it!

I have just started reading this series and I must say that I am rather enjoying them. On the first book I was not sure I would really get to where I would bond with Tempest (the main character) because he seemed shallow and egotistical but as the series goes on I find myself rooting for him and his friends... of course... the dogs. The books are well written and I love that he is self published. Definitely recommend going out and getting the books!

Brilliant, addictive and fully deserving of five stars, at least.
    .
Steve Higgs is a consummate story teller, whose books are a pleasure on so many levels and are all of a consistently high quality read. Without risk of a spoiler, I can say simply that they are whodunits with a difference, set in the south-east of England in modern 21st century times; and each features a different theme and adversary. In pursuance of which, and improvising by the ‘seat of his pants’ as it were, the main hero (who is ex-armed forces) seems to have the unfortunately recurring occupational hazard of getting himself arrested by the police, questioned, warned, and then released, at some point during most of his investigations.
    .
I recommend these tales all equally, as it is hard to single-out an absolute favourite, because I thoroughly enjoyed them all.
    .
Their reliable intrigue, thrill, and suspense had me gripped and unable to put them down. Late nights and lack of sleep resulted. The recurring characters are endearingly believable, flawed and human, and very familiar (sometimes endearingly so) because I am sure we all have or had once known friends and acquaintances just like them, ‘warts and all’, including strengths, weaknesses, annoyances, and attitudes; sometimes demonstrated in outrageous banter. All have been familiar to me as very much like real people whom I have known, lost touch with over a lifetime, and now vividly recall. Thus it feels like a long lost and welcome reunion.
    .
The dialogue and interaction is interspersed and balanced with moments of irresistible humour, which perfectly compliments the adrenaline-filled moments. Although each novel draws from the same regular team of characters (investigators, their researchers and advisors, and back-up muscle), and are sequentially written, nevertheless each novel is stand-alone and can be just as enjoyable if read out of order.

Once again Tempest faces unparanormal events that require his help. Solving them with humour and insight.
Mild sexual references and some extreme violence make this an adult read.
