4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

Join Arthina in her quest to defeat a terrible dragon and rescue a captured prince.

Princess Arthina, Knightess of Camalittle, has sworn to protect the kingdom and earned her place at the Square Table with the other knights. Just one little problem: her over-protective parents won’t let her go on any adventures!

Things get interesting for Arthina when she discovers that poor Prince Henry of the neighboring kingdom has been kidnapped by a fearsome dragon and she’s the only one that can help. It’s up to Arthina and her trusted horse and best friend, Bolt, to save the day.

A Knightess in Shiny Armor is a fun twist on several classic fairy tales and flips gender stereotyping on its head. This short but fast-paced black and white illustrated chapter book will empower children to be unique and think for themselves.

I liked how the author gave readers a princess who wasn't a damsel in distress. As an author, reader, and lover of Magical Girl shows I love when the female characters are sweet, but that doesn't mean they're to be messed with. I also liked the different spin that was put on the fairytales in this story (The Three Little Bigs and The Big Bad Wolf & The Troll Under the Bridge). I wasn't expecting Arthina to have the ability to talk to animals for some reason. Maybe it's because I don't usually read or watch anything where a knight/knightess has the ability to understand animals. Then again, Arthina is also a princess and most of the time they can speak/understand animals. The illustrations were cute giving the reader a chance to get in a small break before continuing to read. This is the beginning of a series that I believe young girls and even some boys will enjoy reading.

This is a fun adventure story that features a little "knightess" from "Camalittle" who is charged with defeating a dragon (female, of course) and rescuing a prince! Arthina, the knightess, uses brains instead of brawn to accomplish the task. The book is filled with allusions to several classic stories, making it an enjoyable tale for adults, too. Cute story!

What a fun story to read! I love strong women in books and it's great that early readers will be exposed to stories like these. Being a hero is not only the job of the guys; not only that girls can do it but they totally rock when they do it! Kudos to the author!

I bought this book a while ago. The story was incredibly cute and was a great twist on some of the well-known fairy tales. It's a very fun book. I bought this book a while ago, so the author may have edited since then, but I noticed a few grammatical errors in the text. On one page, there was a missing period.

A fun filled adventure with a strong little girl that teaches little ones that girls can be heros too. My boys didnt even notice that rhe story wasnt about a boy. They enjoyed it very much and we read it twice.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining story about a plucky young heroine
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 28, 2020
Girls still need to be better represented in leading roles in books for kids, and the author does a great job at addressing this imbalance in this short chapter book story.

The princess in this story doesn’t want to sit around on a throne all day. She wants to be a female knight (a knightess), and to go off on exciting adventures with her trusty horse, Bolt. Her parents aren’t so keen, and although she is allowed to become a knightess in name, they and the other male knights insist on protecting her from quests and all danger.

All this is about to change, when a powerful sorceress sends the knightess on her first important rescue mission. By the time she’s helped 3 billy goats with a troll situation, and saved 3 little pigs from a big bad wolf, our heroine is starting to realise she can use her intelligence rather than her strength to defeat any enemy. But can she defeat a very large, fire-breathing dragon to rescue a prince?

An easy to read story, told with plenty of humour that kids will enjoy.

A modern and lovingly written adventure suitable for any young reader. The book is full of wit and retells many classic stories with a fun twist! Highly recommended and hopefully will provide as much reading pleasure to others as it did here. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

Very witty and entertaining story. I’m well above the reading age but I’m sure younger readers will enjoy it too.
