- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2017***** 5 Cranky Stars *****
La La Land is one of those books I couldn't wait to get in my hot little hands. I devoured it in pretty much one setting and then sat staring at the walls wanting to read it again and wanting the next book in the series.
The books starts where Gods of Anthem left off: Tommy and Liza in captivity, forces scattered, the rebellion smashed, fates unknown and shadowy forces at work.
La La Land starts with a hiss and a roar and doesn't give up. The pace is break-neck and I reeled from one event to the other. Faced with life and death and limited resources, our heroes pick up and pack up to find some answers. Crossing a country no longer recognizable, the two have to deal with what's external and inside themselves.
Just when I felt the need to catch my breath, Keys takes her foot off the pedal and introduces a new voice into her series - one in the wilds of a broken America facing its own set of life and death challenges.
The writing in this is poetic and entrancing. I found myself up all night just to get to the end, just to put the pieces of the puzzle together, and analyze the deeper mysteries.
When I thought I had it all figured out, Keys hit me from out of the blue. My cold, dark heart lurched. It might have had feelings. I might have said bad words.
This is one of the best dystopian series out there and if you're a fan of this series or of humans and monsters - pick it up.
Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2017in this book some questions are answered but more questions are raised. It's definitely interesting. I like that everything seems to have a scientific explanation within the reality of the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2017Well, 5 stars because I really enjoyed reading this book. It was just as good as book 1. A few unexpected events but fun..
I read it straight after The last city. Thankfully because I don't think I could have waited to find out what happened.
This time it's Tommy and Liza together on a journey to La la land. And Dallas point of view , I won't spoil who that is. But it was nice to read about.
Also this books all about la la land and the politics there.. some new characters like Baby and Leo. , Philip. It was an interesting side. Only I don't get why my favourite had to die! Just like that! And that dreadful machine that I don't even understand what it's about. But the ending is good. Not bad for a second book.
If you read The last City and enjoyed it but thinking about this one, don't. Just buy it and read. It's not disappointing.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2017"The world's a chainsaw ready to cut us into ribbons and we can't be soft."
There may be love in La La Land but it's snuffed out by hate. Smothered by pride. Driven by greed. Destroyed by fear.
"How I know these things is well beyond me. I must have loved and lost, and lost greatly."
The world outside of Anthem is terrifying. And while it might be considered freedom opposed to Anthem's Authority there is always someone in charge. Someone you have to answer to. But at the end of the day, what you should really be focusing on is who is asking the questions. There's a reason they call it La La Land.
Logan had my emotions all over the chart with this book. Her words are so spellbinding. So poetic and entrancing. She painted such a vivid picture causing me to be emotionally invested with every word. And so many times I was cut to the core left bleeding out from shocking revelations and unspeakable loss. After reading La La Land I feel like someone needs to coin a term stronger than a book hangover. Book coma? I'm impatient for answers. And desperately holding to hope that things are not what they seem.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2017In the haunting follow up to God's of Anthem, Logan Keys takes her readers on a riveting yet unexpected adventure that far exceeded my expectations. The writing was flawless while the characters were beautifully flawed. I simply couldn't put down my kindle and kept me swiping to the next page as quickly as I could.
With little humanity left in this dying world, Keys manages to keep hope alive in the hearts' of her readers. The characters' stories weave together, bringing us closer to them and their journey. La La Land is full of heart stopping suspense with an underlying of courage that can't go unnoticed.
The writing was beautiful and poetic and I can't wait to be devoured by the third book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2017Gods of Anthem (The Last City) was a phenomenal read, so I was so excited to read La La Land. And holy buckets, Batman! This did not disappoint.
Logan Keys has built this amazing dystopian world that makes you want to live in it. She's smoothed out edges so flawlessly that you lose yourself into this world.
Tommy and Liza are on the run. Liza has no memory of life before she woke up and doesn't know if she should trust this Tommy fellow. But he gets her off the island, and it's just the two of them, so she has no choice. Trust Tommy or die alone.
Soon, their roaming leads them to La La Land, to the place who experimented on humans in order to obtain the perfect war machine--Tommy. And they need his help.
Ah! So much I can say. But I won't. You'll just have to read this awesome series for yourself.
