Let me start out by saying that Shelbourne, if this book is read alone, is a perfect dark and brooding dreamboat alpha male with the heart of a poet. He even sheds tears. But I did feel like I was betraying Helena (his sister) by my easy infatuation with this man. I wish his transformation to the satisfying hero would have included him begging his sister for forgiveness for trying to push her into shackling herself to an odious lord. Oh well, nobody’s perfect.

Julianna is a strong, vibrant and passionate heroine who has managed to find her way even though she was raised by emotionally - and in the case of her mother, physically - absent parents. While I understood her devastation when she thought she witnessed betrayal, I find it harder to relate to someone who does not face a disappointment head-on. It is a testament to the strength of the author’s character development, writing skill, and the H and h’s compelling attraction to each other that I liked this book so well. Because the long, drawn out misunderstanding is one of my least favorite tropes, not just because it is frustrating, but it requires one or both characters to have a major personality flaw in my opinion.

It takes a very long time for the event that led to the separation of the H and h to be brought to light. A. Very. Long. Time. Without even the tertiary mention that has the accused party scratching their head in bewilderment. And even when a hint is given, the hero doesn’t seem to acknowledge it. Still, I liked this book best so far in the series.

I was surprised at how little interaction with other characters this book included, but I didn’t mind. It was weird we never saw Shelbourne’s parents given how much influence they wielded in the previous book. But good riddance to bad rubbish.

This book will be on my reread list.

The storyline is old yet it was rendered in a new approached. The entire plot is to my liking, enemy to lover. The author has a way of making me stick to each page and not cheating by jumping to the epilogue. But there are common phrases, words and sentences that the author used in all her books, that is quite distracting. I hope she or her line editor would be aware of it. Over all its a nice book

I’ve read two (-ish) books in this series now and I’m finding a pattern that the men are horrible to the women until they “fall in love”, whether that supposedly happened long before or in present time. I skipped around to get to the good parts of the story because it was so unbearable and intolerable and cringe-worthy until midway through the book. For this one, it wasn’t until the end of the story that the obvious misunderstanding between the characters cleared, so they could live happily ever after.

Ms. Scott’s story is filled with angst, emotional turmoil, anger, naïveté, innocence, insecurity, bitterness, and vengeance. It is not a sweet story. It alternates the past with the present in the telling of the story from two perspectives the hero Shelbourne, and the heroine Juliana. The age difference between them caused some of their problem but mostly it was the heroines lack of self worth, her innocence and her fears. It is a difficult story to read because of all the constant strife and turmoil. I read it because I am invested in the series. I would not consider this a happy book even with its HEA. I do believe the story achieves the writers goals based on the premise and storyline which is why I gave it 4 stars, however it was not my favorite and based on the romantic content I’d give it 2 stars.

I truly enjoyed Sydney and Julianna’s love story. Reading their story made me want to skip the book to know what would happen. But I didn't do that. Reading their story from beginning to end hooked me because they shared an endearing love. All the stories in this series have been excellent, and I can't wait to read Tilly’s love story. The excerpt read in Lady Wicked it sounds to be another thrilling read.

I enjoyed reading this fourth novel in the series, though it never ceases to amaze me that couples don’t just out with whatever it is that has upset them, but I suppose it was the way things there at the time and I shouldn’t put my 20th & 21st century way of thinking on to them!
A well written novel with a HEA ending.

    4.0 out of 5 stars 🖤 Sidney & Juliana 🖤

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/6.
    🌶️🌶️🌶️/5.

This was okay. I’m just not a fan of the tropes in this one and miscommunication that happened 2 years ago and that dragged on until 80% of the book.
I think it took too long for Juliana & Sidney to finally talk about what happened 2 years ago. I think that the conversation should’ve happened before the marriage or right when they married. I was invested enough to finish it but ultimately it made me realize what tropes I don’t really like so there’s a positive. 🙂

I liked Sidney enough but he was an a$$ for a lot of the book and while I understand his rage for what Juliana hide from him, I felt like it was somewhat unjustified what he said to her. He was no saint when he met her and while circumstances were out of his control, he could’ve done more but he was prideful while Juliana was heartbroken and full of fear of what everything meant. I did love that he took steps to woo her once he realized he should seize this opportunity and not let go and in doing so he made moves ( with Elijah of course 🥰) to ensure she has a business in London. I love a supportive husband so points for him.
I loved their relationship with little Emily and how Sidney was immediately taken by her. Ultimately Emily was the reason for them to marry ( among others) but love for each other was the reason to stay married.
    I’m happy they’re happy.

I’m looking forward to read Lady Lawless next!

Scarlett Scott knows how to turn a simple storyline to something captivating...something that can't be kept aside, but finished at one go. Again, an intense attraction between the lead pairs, scorching hot chemistry and the warmth of love does the trick. Added cherry on top is a father's love who did not get to know his daughter for one year...beautifully expressed. I liked the way the story unfolded.

Lady Julianna Somerset is back in London after spending two years in New York. She has some unfinished business with Sidney, Lord Shelbourne. They had an affair two years ago but something happened and Julianna left for America. I did wonder why Julianna hadn’t explained things to Sidney before leaving but then I considered her age, she was just about eighteen, and she hadn’t a good example of marriage or love from her parents. Sidney’s parents, also, didn’t provide a good example of a loving marriage. Although, they both had feelings for each other, neither wanted to admit it. Circumstances require them to be together but will they ever swallow their pride and be truthful to each other? This was an engaging read with very likeable characters.
