Last Resort (Empire State of Mind Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 64 ratings

Emma has forty-five-million dollars burning a hole in her handbag.
And just as many reasons to flee New York City.

She had everything:
A billionaire husband
Respect in the art world
And impeccable style.

Now the only exhibit she can curate is in a Staten Island sports bar. Plus, while wearing an outfit even a dumpster would reject, she bumps into the one person she hoped she’d never meet: the woman who ruined her marriage.

Humiliated and single, Emma escapes to the Catskills, ready for an epic round of retail therapy.

The scenery is gorgeous. Especially Matthias, the manager of the town’s tattered resort. But the welcome he shows Emma is icier than winter in the mountains.

When she invests in the resort, the battle for the small town’s soul heats up. And so do her feelings for Matthias.

But it takes more than money to curate a town. Will the price be too steep for Emma?

Get this laugh-out-loud standalone novel, book 2 of the Empire State of Mind series, perfect for readers who love chick lit with a lot of heart.

I really enjoyed reading this book about a city person who finds herself, and love, in a small town. The author really humanized the super-rich lead character and what she was going through post-divorce, while also creating a whole cast of richly drawn characters in the town. This book made me want to visit a resort in the Catskills!

Emma, ex-wife of a billionaire, has a hard time grappling with her new situation, as her sef-esteem is low. One day she meets a woman at the farmer's market, who tells her about her hometown that is dying, despite a lot of talent in town.
Emma has one gift, the gift to pair things in unusual ways, but with a perfect fit. She wants to use her gift and start curating that one small town about two hours away from NYC. So she and her best friend start the project.
Things, of course, do not go exactly as planned. A wonderful story with interesting characters, some crazy situations that make you laugh out loud.
    An absolutely enjoyable read.

Could you read just this book? Sure you could and love it but why when it is part of a great series.

Emma leaves her marriage with millions of dollars. She moves away from the bustling streets of NYC. Then she meets Matthias. She doesn’t feel as if she is ready for another big relationship.

The story was cute but I wasn’t as into it. I felt that there were too many characters introduced in the starting and it took a long time to take off. But aside the quibbles, it was a good book.

I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.

I enjoyed this sequel to Splitting Heirs even more than the first book. I am passingly familiar with the area where this is set, and I feel like I’ve now completed a vacation there.
The story is fun and believable, in as much as ‘we hated each other at first sight/now we’re in love’ stories are believable. I like that not all bumps put before the characters were able to be smoothed away (Key Shop), and i enjoyed having most of the main characters from Splitting Heirs continue to be fleshed out here in Last Resort.
I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series!
