4.4 out of 5 stars 9,859 ratings

From NYT bestselling author Helena Hunting, writing as H. Hunting, comes a standalone brother's best friend, forced-proximity, enemies-to-lovers, college hockey romance.

My best friend’s younger sister is the bane of my existence.
And she just moved in with him.
The last time I saw her I broke her heart.
Shattered it, actually.
It had to be done.
I’m the worst person she could end up with.
I’ll ruin her if given the chance.

But she’s not the meek girl I left behind.
And she’s making it impossible to avoid her.
Her new favorite pastime is pushing every single one of my buttons.
When she shows up at a pool party wearing a small white bikini and flirts with my teammates, I'm not sure I'll survive this year.

Especially when she looks like every fantasy I’ve ever had.

She’s totally off-limits.
Completely forbidden.
The one woman I can’t have.
And the only woman I’ve ever wanted.

"Helena Hunting takes your breath and your heart with equal force in this incredible, important novel. We all have a little bit of Lavender in us, and this book celebrates that. This book is a hug and a lesson, as well as a hell of a ride" ~ Debra Anastasia, Amazing author

"H. Hunting delivers what must be the most
beautifully written, and certainly emotional New Adult books of the year. Kodiak and Lavender's story is going to slay you. Two soulmates with the ability to both destroy and build each other, this friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance is not to be missed. This is the beginning of a new era, and I am so here for the ride. Fans of NA cannot afford to miss out on that one." - LJ Shen, USA Today bestselling author

"Helena brings all the angst and all the emotion in this beautifully written, character-driven romance about independence, healing, and the redemptive power of soul-deep love.
Absolutely stunning and a must read!" Siobhan Davis, USA Today bestselling author

"You'll feel the angst Helena brings in this book deep in your soul." ~ author Alley Ciz

"Little Lies is an
unforgettable and brilliant love story between two characters who have suffered so much! H. Hunting pens a heartbreaking tale that leaves readers absolutely breathless from beginning to end. One of her best books yet!" - Stacey Lynn, author

"While this is unlike her romcoms in almost every way, this is
Hunting at her best. It's like every single road we've taken from reading all of her previous books has lead us here, to this moment, with this beautiful and emotion-filled story." ~ Caryn, iam.caryn

"Little Lies by Helena Hunting writing is H. Hunting is a
5 Star, Top Pick, Book Hangover inducing read... a book that had me trying to force myself to read slowly so that I could savor every word... a book that has me wishing I can just say READ THIS BOOK in shouty caps and every reader would." ~ Denise Shh Moms Reading

"There is such
beauty in this angst and suffering, as Hunting puts her characters on the path to healing and self-actualization." ~ Lauren, Goodreads reviewer

"What makes the story
exceptional and a must read is that Helena introduces us to characters who deal with mental health issues. She shows the complexities and difficulties of families who deal with traumatic situations. She shows how love can lead people to make wrong choices in the name of protection, but readers all get to see that love, familial and romantic, can heal." ~ Sarah, Musings of the Modern Belle

"I've read every single one of Hunting's books and can say,
unequivocally, this is her best work . . . it's worth every moment of pain and anguish." ~ Jenn, Garden of REden

"It's not easy to love. And it's not easy to overcome traumatic experiences. Helena did not write a book about privileged children. She wrote about the fears, hard truths and growing pains of young adults.
A fantastic beginning, middle and end." ~ Deborah, Goodreads reviewer

The Soulmate Trope Was Thriving!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5️⃣0️⃣ Okay, this was a nice surprise. I've eyed this book on a few occasions, but I've never picked it up before now. I think some of the reviews I read threw me off. Which made this particular book a prime example (for me) of why other people's reviews, while valid, shouldn't be that big of a deterrent. I'm totally guilty of letting reviews sway me more than I should. The soulmate trope was thriving. There is absolutely no one but Lavender for Kodiac, and vice versa. The emotional torment he forced upon himself for her! Swoon. It did take a bit for them to get anywhere close to being on the same page. However, it was highly satisfying once they finally grew exhausted from fighting their connection and gave in. Mmc- Kodiac Bowman Fmc- Lavender Waters Spice- 🌶🌶🌶 Based on the feels I got from this book, I'm going straight into the next, Bitter Sweet Heart. I'm even considering starting from the top with their parent's books. I really enjoyed this one. The writing was good. The character dialog was decent. No crazy scene jumps that left me scratching my head. It was a breezy sort of read with a nice dose of angst and nothing too over-the-top ridiculous going on. The only thing that I found the smallest fault with was during the last 10% or so. I didn't care for the way various subplots were all rounded up and dealt with one right after the other. It borderline made it feel rushed. I would've appreciated more organic resolutions that were somewhat spread out instead of being told through inner monologues while the characters reminisced. It would've been more satisfying to actually be with the characters in those moments as they played out. If I spend the time reading about a particular issue within a book, I want to be there for the resolution. I need a front row seat in real-time. However, that's just a gripe I have in general with these romance books, lol.

    Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You can’t keep out what makes your heart beat in the first place.”

Take any book in Helena Hunting’s Pucked or All In series. Locate the darkest and deepest parts of those books, the places where the hurt exists, but where grace and love reside. Mine that space for the beauty of its depths, and turn that dearth of humor, so prevalent in her books, into a book about soulmates and codependency. It is there where H. Hunting’s newest book, Little Lies, begins.

If you thought the couples of the Pucked or All In series were madly in love, you haven’t yet met Kodiak Bowman and Lavender Waters. Of her couples, these two have officially taken the trophy of most fated soulmates. Their story isn’t an easy one. Hunting’s Little Lies is a huge flex, an acknowledgment of her giftedness at, not only writing stories that make you laugh until your stomach hurts, but her adeptness at writing stories that feel as though someone has wrapped their fist around your heart and squeezed it to its depths.

“You can start by erasing all the little lies with truths.”

There is an underlying psychology to Little Lies. That psychology breathes depth into a story that is mostly serious but still has the markings of Hunting’s humor. You know that if Violet and her mother are here, then there is sure to be inappropriate moments. What you realize quickly is that Lavender has shades of her mother in her. If you believe that Little Lies is solely serious, it isn’t. The parts of Hunting’s persona as a writer of rom-coms still exists, and she has placed these moments in Little Lies when you need them the most. For the first half of the book, my heart beat out of chest, and my stomach felt like it was in my throat as Kodiak and Lavender circle each other and as their early days are revealed. It isn’t an easy read emotionally, but the payoff for the dissension, for the outright ugliness of the first part of the book, is a second part that is so beautifully carved that it makes the first part worth it. That’s the reward of Little Lies. And anyone daring enough to endure Hunting’s take on the second generation of Pucked and All In characters is gifted the genius of Hunting. This book feels fresh for her, especially in its complexity of spirit.

I won’t reveal any story here. The blurb and the teases on Hunting’s Facebook page are enough to pique your curiosity. This book holds secrets. It also holds the treasure of glimpsing the next level of play for this universe. I am hoping and praying that there are more stories to come as Hunting teases you throughout this book of the potential for more. But you should know that this book is a prose dream. Hunting’s words in this book touch you. They bleed out the depth and gravity of this book’s topics and its characters. If you could see my book, you’d see pages of highlights because Hunting’s words are delectable and heavy.

“[ ]ex with Lavender isn’t just physical; it’s every part of me and every part of her fusing into one.“

    H. Hunting’s Little Lies is not what I expected from her, but exactly what I needed. It’s thoughtful, emotional, challenging, and a treasure. If you are a fan, you will absolutely adore this book as I have. If you have never read Helena Hunting, you can start here. It’s a true standalone within the realm of new adult romance. However, to truly understand the significance of this book and its place in the Helena Hunting universe, you should read her Pucked and All In series first. And trust me, you will never regret that journey as you will NOT regret reading Little Lies.

This is a very special story of two children bonding over childhood trauma and mental health issues. At the same time, the road to everlasting happiness in adult life is more than a little bumpy.
A clumsy heroine, a spiteful hero, both with their own fair share of anxiety issues, and a mountain full of crazy colleagues jocks going over the top as much as they can.
This story will make your heart beat faster for various reasons: laughter, suspense, pain, heartache, love... it's all there and it's bloody brilliant!

My heart is so, so full after finishing LITTLE LIES! I went into LITTLE LIES knowing it would feature the kids of some of Helena Hunting's previous heroes and heroines, and I also new it was new adult and that it was going to be angst-y...and I have to say that's a pretty fair assessment, but it was also sweet, endearing, and while it tore me up at first, it definitely put me back together and wrapped me in a big warm hug! By the end it had me grinning and smiling so, so much. :)

I'm a huge fan of Helena's Pucked series and her All In series, so I've been eagerly waiting for this one as soon as it was announced ages ago, and it was completely worth the wait! I loved Lavender and Kodiak so much! I also loved seeing all of the younger Pucked/All In kids, too, and I really loved getting to see snippets of their parents. At this point I've been a huge fan of Helena's for years now, and it's been an absolute pleasure following all of these characters for so long. Love, love, loved this one!

Overall, I thought that LITTLE LIES was phenomenal! Helena's writing is superb, fresh, and hilarious as always! The story was compelling, heartwrenching, emotional, and I was utterly and completely hooked! I loved that LITTLE LIES featured flashbacks from Lavender and Kodiak's childhood alongside of their present storyline, and that it alternated POVs between the two of them, as I loved seeing how their past lead them to where they currently were...and I always love getting to see both characters' sides to a romance!

All in all, I absolutely adored this book and I highly recommend it! If you're already a fan of Helena Hunting, then definitely read LITTLE LIES as it is truly one of her best books so far! If you're new to Helena Hunting's writing, then I'd recommend LITTLE LIES if you're a fan of contemporary romances that are angsty, sweet, sexy, and funny!

I am totally recommending this book...generally majority of the sports/college romance novels harbor typical story line of bad boy-good boy...misunderstanding ...etc...when I started reading this book I was quite apprehensive of getting to read same kind of story..but I am really happy to say that this book is surprised me with its deep messages, easy flow of wistful bantering, humors, character building...the list will go on...at the end the main female protagonist Lavender....wow...hats off to author that she has created an wonderful, amazing and powerful woman 'Lavender.. it's actually very very rare to find such a strong female protagonist in these types of romance novels...I am totally in love with Lavender and of course can not forget kody and others....I am glad I read this book...thank you Helena to create Lavender....
