Leap of Faith Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 99 ratings

Sometimes all you need is a little push.

Running from his shattered gymnastics career, Charlie Avrill’s one hope for redemption is the strange and colourful world of the circus. His skills should make him a good fit for seasoned performer, Darius Lungo. But Darius won’t compromise his high stakes act for just anyone.

Still mourning the loss of his performance partner who unexpectedly abandoned the show, Darius’s heart can’t take another temporary filler. No matter how perfect Charlie might seem at first glance. But the circus is dying, and Darius owes his bosses a stellar act to sell.

Putting their differences aside to recreate the star attraction, Darius and Charlie grow closer with each rehearsal. But Charlie’s only in the ring for a one-night-only performance and the circus is due at its next stop—off the island and into Europe.

Can Charlie push aside his fears and take the leap of faith to change his entire life? And, if he does, will Darius still be there to catch him?

Leap of Faith is a standalone age-gap, enemies to lovers, mm romance where the twists and turns don’t only happen in the ring.

Brought up in a relatively small town in Hertfordshire, C F White managed to do what most other residents try to do and fail—leave.

She eventually settled for pie and mash, cockles and winkles and a bit of Knees Up Mother Brown to live in the East End of London; securing a job and creating a life, a home and a family.

She writes gritty British based stories about imperfect men falling in love against the odds and has been accused of sprinkling a little humour into them too.

MM Age Gap in a unique setting
I grabbed this on release day because I consistently enjoy CF White & Piers Ryman. I also love age gap & unique tropes – CIRCUS! I’m thankful for other reviews that pointed out this was slow burn – because I saved it for a day when that’s what I was in the mood for. Darius is turning 40 and while he thoroughly enjoys his life with Godeaux’s Travelling Circus, he pines for something more permanent in his personal life. He’s also quite the grump. While Charlie is in his early 20s, he’s definitely not a sunshine either. White really lets us get to know these two characters and their history and readers see how their lives actually intersected long before they met. I got to know and love Charlie’s family and the Godeaux “found family” which really helped with understanding the MCs better. Once they get together (about 70% mark) – it gets pretty steamy, but they still struggle to communicate well on what they each want and need in life and from each other. Obviously – ROMANCE! – they do finally work it out. I liked the epilogue in terms of Darius & Charlie’s relationship, and while not a cliffhanger it did kind of open the door to more story. Note: White commented on another review that she IS continuing Darius & Charlie’s story in a serial on her website called, “Encore!”. Chapter 1 is even in audio. (also, if like me you find it when you need a little more caffeine in your system, scroll down to the bottom & read “up” or you’ll end up reading chapter 2 before you listen to chapter 1.) Narration: I again enjoyed Piers Ryman’s performance. I really liked his growly, grumbly voice for Darius. He did a good job with all the other voices as well. It was easy to listen to and kept the various characters consistent in my mind.

I loved this story. I loved that we got POV of both main characters Charlie and Darius. Yes its a slow burn, but we do get kisses and a sex scene in this book. Also the tension between them is great! What I really wish for is another book in the series. Yes, it wrapped up nice, but I wanna know whats gonna happen with Louis back in town! Who's gonna take over the circus now?!...i need more!

Age gap stories are always a welcome troupe for me. (And this was an 18 yr one). There was a little bit more to the forbidden storyline that was obvious early on also. Charlie and Darius came from very different backgrounds and were at different places in their lives but they found balance in each other. The life of a circus performer has always intrigued me so I enjoyed that aspect as well. I would have liked a tiny bit more with the end of the epilogue but maybe there will be another book in the series to give me that. Enjoyable read all around.

A new-to-me author and a unique setting, what a wonderful surprise. I loved this story and these characters and I really want to see more of Charlie and Darius and their families.

I so enjoyed this book, its characters and its plot. Its a complete read from beginning to end. Yes, I figured out the "secret" early on, bit it didn't detract from the story. Well done to the author.

I have been enjoying this authors writing. This story kept me reading I barely put it down just because it was a mix of whimsical and yet romantic and set in a real world situation with some drama that was just enough to keep you on your toes.

4 Stars. Darius is a trapeze artist at the Godeaux circus. He’s still reeling from the unexpected loss of his partner, best friend, and unrequited love. But the circus is in trouble, and the owners are pushing Darius to find another partner. Charlie has trained his entire life to be an Olympic gymnast. But with gold in reach, he comes home with his tail between his legs. His friend recommends he get a temporary job at the circus. What starts out as a week working in the box office and hanging posters turns into Charlie taking the spotlight with Darius while the two get to know each other outside the ring as well.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I enjoyed the writing style. The main characters are well developed and there are several interesting secondary characters as well. I found some of the characters a bit annoying. Charlie seemed to give up his dream of Olympic gold way too easily, and Darius’s mood swings tried to give me whiplash. The chemistry between Charlie and Darius was amazing, and the relationships between the characters seem very realistic. I loved that we got a behind the scenes peek at circus life as well as descriptions of the acts. The main twist was pretty predictable from early in the story for me, but it was still interesting to see how all the parts played out with the different characters. The story has a HEA, but it took some work to get there and there were plenty of real life obstacles in the way. Overall, this was a very interesting and intriguing read.

For me this is a new author, I started reading it this morning and couldn't put it down. Seems like an open ending to the book where one of the characters returns to the circus and finds out more than he was bargaining on- could be a follow on book.

Charlie comes home from university after being disqualified from the Olympic team. He made some mistakes, but was manipulated by his coach.

When the circus is in town, Charlie asks for a job, and instead of being a ticket taker, his gymnast body means he can work on the trapeze.

Darius is nursing his broken heart because his unrequited love left him behind. He was also his trapeze partner, so he's resistant to Charlie being the new one. But, they're immediately in sync, in the air and on the ground.

It takes Darius awhile to come around, and things are more complicated as some truths are uncovered, but ultimately the two are meant to be.

An interesting premise, but the big secret is obvious, and there's a lot that isn't addressed, not the least of which is the abuse by Charlie's coach.

    An OK read.
