Learning to Live: An Enemies-to-Lovers Ugly Cry (The Infinite Love Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 293 ratings

Ciera
All I wanted was to be able to make it through my senior year. I didn't need the stares, the jokes, or the bullies. I thought I could do it all on my own, but I was wrong. He filled my veins like a poison, the kind you can't run from. Harsh and uncaring, he was broken, but somewhere along the way he seeped into my pores. There was no way out, so that left me with one choice: to open his eyes to the beauty around him--to help him live.

Topher
She wasn't on my agenda; it was fate's cruel way of telling me I needed to get my shit together. To be fair, my head was so far up my ass, I'm not sure how we extracted it. I knew the power I held over my peers, and I exuded it daily. I could have had any girl I wanted at the snap of my fingers, and yet I found myself fantasizing about her--someone so far off my radar it wasn't even funny. She helped me understand that sometimes you need to let go to really live. Sometimes being alive means taking risks.

Like A Walk to Remeber but 100x better!!!
By the end of this beautiful book, the author made me experienced literally every emotion possible. Kira Adam's is a very talented author who can bring you to tears yet in thay same moment make you feel happy and hopeful all at once. Her book reminds me as how inexperienced young teenagers are in maturity, love but especially life!! The author was able to make me as if she transported me back to high school and I was a young girl trying to navigate the teenage hierarchy all over again. I was once again reminded that boys think they have it all figured out when it comes to girls and how terrifying it can be as a young girl because girls deal with so many different pressures in high school. Ciera carried herself with such grace and beauty and in the end she was the most courageous person in this book.

Learning to Live was my first Kira Adams book and wow was I totally impressed. It is without a doubt a heart wrenching cry book and lesson in life. Topher and Ciera come from two different worlds. Topher is the popular, handsome, selfish, rich jock that is part of the 'A Team.' Ciera is smart and selfless but poor, unpopular and the target of the 'A Teams' bullying. For 6 years the 'A Team' tortured her because she was different. She had only one friend, until one day Madalyn, one of the 'A Team' cheerlearders befriended her and Ciera's life changed. Madalyn saw the beauty within Ciera and with a little help she helped Ciera embrace it.
Soon enough, Ciera caught the eye of many, especially that of Topher's. The ring leader that tortured Ciera all those years became infatuated with her. Soon Topher found himself falling for Ciera. Topher and Ciera's love story was truly beautiful. We watched both Ciera and Topher evolve throughout the book. They both have struggles and demons that they battle. It was just breathtaking to witness how Ciera touched the lives of all those around her when she was and wasn't around. I had several moments of the ugly cry throughout this book. Brilliant writing Kira Adams, and thank you for the love story of Ciera and Topher.

    Book: Learning to Live
    Author: Kira Adams
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars

I was first asked to look at this book while it was free on Kindle. It's been awhile, but here I am.

I will be honest, this was one of those books that I felt could go either way. It started out as a typical teen age love story. We have our jock, Topher, and our outcast, Ciera. Topher's circle of friends are Ciera's tormentors.

Ciera is the victim, who just does not stand out for herself; it seems like her life goal was to be invisible. She is treated so badly by her peers simply because she's not a size two, doesn't have the coolest clothes, is bookish, and comes from a lower class background. She is the girl that so many of us were as teenagers. She also the type of person who will do anything for those she cares about-look at what she does for her family! However, she also has a secret that is probably going to end her life at some point.

Topher starts out as this world class jerk. He is the rich boy, the golden boy, pretty much the boy that everyone wants to be. He has it all, but things also change for him. His dad tells him some news that he is not ready to hear, his loses his girlfriend to his best friend, and the only girl who get a reaction out of his body hates his guts.

Ciera and Topher both have a monster lurking in their closets. They make the best of what little time they have with each other. Yes, it is cute! Their love is nothing but simple fluff. I guess an act of simple kindness can lead you to the love of your life. Plus, it was really cute to watch Topher try and win over Ciera.

Kira has a gift with giving us such a simple story, but with a powerful punch line. Whenever I first starting reading this one, I was expecting something shallow and not very moving. I was also not expecting the characters to be in high school! The words and the writing style had a grip on me; one that made it next to impossible for me to put down this short read. While it just over two hundred pages, Kira creates a beautiful and moving world. We are constantly reminded that while it may seem like we have forever in this world, we are really just running on that enemy called time.

This book is for sure one that will mess with your emotions. I know that I greatly enjoyed this simple read and know that many others will. There is some content in here that may not be suitable for younger teens.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Learning to Live opens with an overview of who the book is going to be about in the perspective of each person. In other words it is an alternating first person perspective stand alone that does not end in a cliff hanger. Now, I know this book is in a series, but this book does not necessarily have to be read before the second book, My Forever. However, it is suggested as it gives you more insight to the main characters of book two.

The main point of views for this book are Ciera Nelson and Topher Carlson. Ciera is your average, low income girl, who does not have a lot things, money, or friends, and is constantly bullied in school by the popular kids because of her looks and "weirdness". However, Topher is her complete opposite. He is your hands down, drop dead gorgeous, football player that every girl in school wants to be with who just happens to be dating a cheerleader that every guy wants to be with. Topher seems to have it all and have it all together, but his home life is something that he hides from everyone. Ciera and Topher have nothing in common or so they think!

My favorite lines from the book:
"I love how romance authors can make you feel every emotion in their books, that you feel invested in the characters. By the end of the story, you feel as if you know them on some kind of level, and you mourn the loss of them when it's over." -Kira Adams

These lines play very true to this book. In fact the best thing about Kira Adams and her writing is that she pulls you right in from the start (I read the book in ONE sitting it was that good)! Kira definitely makes you fall in love with some characters while she builds a love/hate feeling towards other characters. You will absolutely love Ciera and her innocence from the start. You will feel sorry for her, feel every emotion she feels, and end up hating those who bully her and treat her wrong.

Topher, well that is another story. You will hate him and his group of friends...at first. As the story plays out, Topher changes and turns over a new leaf. His home life and his relationship with his father improves. He breakups with his cheerleader girlfriend and gets to know Ciera. All of this will leave you wondering why he did not make these decisions sooner.

To me, this book is an example of how some kids have to deal with bullying everyday and how these kids are afraid to speak up. In some cases these kids never make it out of the situation; whether it be ending their lives or whatever, but in other cases, much like the situation in the book, the ones being bullied changes those who bully them. Life gets better and everyone moves on.

This book is definitely an "ugly-cry" type of book with all the feelings, love, and lose. You will most certainly want to read this when you have a few hours to yourself as you will not want to put the book down.

I have received an ARC copy of this box set in exchange of an honest review.

Learning to Life: (5 STARS) This book will seriously make you cry. It's a perfect ugly crier. Good girl, that is shy, bullied and has a problem that no one can't solve. Even if they tried. And then we have him. A bad boy, bored with his current life, having meaningless relationship for looks only.
In here we meet Ciera. Poor girl, that has a tough life at home and at school. Even though she has a loving mother and loving siblings, lack of funds can seriously make you miserable. She is an excellent student, even though she is also working part time at local cinema. She is good, kinds and helpful. Never fights anyone or for herself. And that's why she is being bullied. Even if she doesn't want to she falls for Topher. A bad, rich boy, who never had to worry about material things. For him only looks and how his peers saw him, were important. He didn't care about anything. Even about his best friend and his girlfriend going behind his back. But once an ugly truth is revealed and he starts talking to ciera, everything changes. They both do.
I have to admit. I HATED Topher. I wanted to kick his butt so many times, but as story graduated I started to love him. Love his feeling and affection towards Ciera. Their story broke my heart. And the ending made wanting MORE.Amazing story!

Learning to Live is a romance but I have to warn you that if you are prone to an "ugly cry" then do not read this in public. Swear to god at some points I wanted to crawl into a corner and rock backwards and forwards and try to soothe my soul before I continued on.

Don't let me scare you off, on the other hand it is also an uplifting journey of two young people Topher & Ciera who need to basically learn to live with the cards they have been dealt. It is a story of forgiveness, second chances, seeing beauty through someone else's eyes and living for the moment. Two people from two totally different walks of life teach each other some of life's most important lessons in such a short period of time.

There is only one area in this book I felt a bit let down with is that I really wanted Sophia (aka the bully) and Ciera to have their moment for reflection, closure and acknowledgement of poor behaviour. The whole scene where Ciera is curled into a ball and Sophia is hitting her I was appalled at and then we kind of jump ahead and I really wanted Sophia to be pointed out as a bitch and coward, I needed retribution for Ciera - I was so angry.

These kinds of books make you realise your life is actually pretty good and although we know how this story is going to end I was appreciative as to the compassionate way the writer expressed Ciera and Topher's relationship.

I note there is three other books in the series and I really want to read My Forever with Madalynne & Parker as those two friends of Topher I absolutely loved.

Learning to live – book one of the Infinite love series by Kira Adams

This is such a touching story – a beautifully sad story that will evoke the emotions right out of you. This is one of these books that makes you lift your eyes from the pages and take stock of the people and the world around you – and I love that!

This story is about Ciera and Topher, two people from different sides of the tracks and how they come together, which in turn helps each other feel alive.

In their final year at school, Ciera is the unpopular girl at school, living within a very limited budget, she is an easy target to get bullied just by the clothes she wears - Something that Ciera has suffered for some time. Keeping her head down and trying to be invisible, she just wants to get through school and graduate.

Topher is the popular boy at school, from a rich family and has never been without, has the arrogant attitude that comes with keeping his popularity in check, which also includes helping his circle make fun of Ciera. Bored with life, Topher seems to notice Ciera, like really notice her for the first time and he is intrigued by her and when he sticks up for Ciera and goes against his circle, both their worlds change forever.

This is a great story and a tear jerker and I suggest that you have a few tissues to hand. I loved the writing style and the way you are absorbed in Ciera’s POV and Tophers. A book that you can get hooked on and read in one sitting!

I look forward to reading more. Other books in the series:-
    Life After Book 2 (1.5)
