About the authors
AJ Love - sentence maker, cool mum and proud Ravenclaw.
Born with an overactive imagination, and a tendency to day dream, AJ Love fell into writing stories from an early age. Now, as a romance author, she spends her nights making sense of the love stories in her head.
When she's not writing until the early hours of the morning--with maybe one too many gins in her--AJ spends her time chasing her wild child toddler around, and trying to get her pre-teen son to take a shower.
She also forms one half of the AJ Love and D Breeze partnership, which was born out of a mutual hate for peeling potatoes and socialising, and a love for wine, cheese and make-believe.
AJ Love crosses all sub-genres of Romance, loves her job, and aims to be sitting with her laptop well into her golden years.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is part two of a three part series. I loved the first book but was unsure the intensity of the first book could be continued in book two, well the answer is in the intensity was kept and even increased. The same characters from book one where here again still growing and adding layers and we were introduced to some new characters. You believe these characters. There is emotional undertows that are believable and suck you into the book so that you can't put it down. I started to read in the evening and I cried and laughed and wondered how much more this character Anna could go through and not break. I love Annie Hughes and will stay alert for book 3 and anything else she writes.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother fantastic book from Annie Hughes! This continuation of Anna's story is just as amazing as the first book. I was sucked into this story and couldn't put it down. I love these characters and seeing them grow through their journey. The way Hughes wrote Anna's story made it so easy to feel her emotions. I was scared, heartbroken and happy right along with Anna and her friends. I can't wait to read what Annie Hughes writes next.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a uniquely-told story about an unfortunately, not-so-unique subject--abuse. Anna, the main character, comes from an abusive household and is placed in a foster home where she is meant to be 'safe' and start a new life--new friends, a new family, and even a new boyfriend. But she still can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right. As it happens all too often in cases such as these, her past catches up with her in the most horrific way and she finds herself at a crossroads once again. With the help of an unexpected 'friend', she learns to face her demons head on.
The characters were well-developed and easy to identify with. My favorite was Chloe, a true friend to the end--and scrappy for days! The way the story unravels toward the end and then finally comes to a head, was nothing short of raw, compelling writing.
This was a highly-engaging, emotional read for me and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys dramatic suspense stories. I look forward to checking out the other books in this series.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2016Format: KindleBreaking Free: Learning to Fly is both a coming of age story and a teenage romance. It's the continuation of Anna's story from book one, Una Familia Segura, I'm not a big fan of sequels and felt book one had concluded nicely, so I was a little unsure of what to expect in book two. Once again, I was blown away! In fact, I think I may have liked book two more than book one!
Anna Rosa Castillo, now Anna Porter, has started her new life in America. She is ready to put the past behind her for good. She has a new home, new family, new friends, and possibly even a new love. Despite her newfound happiness, she is plagued by nightmares and uncertainties. And she is being stalked by a creep at school. Can Anna break free of her fears and learn to fly? Or will she always be a scared, broken little girl? Why is her new life suddenly falling apart all at once?
The plot was incredibly suspenseful and at times intense. I read the book straight through in a day because I just couldn't stop reading! The characters were extremely complex and mostly likable, especially Anna and the secondary characters of Chloe and Gemma. After falling in love with Jake in book one, I found myself almost hating him in book two. If it were possible to slap him through my Kindle, I surely would have. But Ethan, oh Ethan, where does one find an Ethan? He was so sweet, patient, and romantic. Did I mention that there are phrases in Spanish throughout the book? I LOVE that I was able to use my second language while reading! (Don't worry; there are translations for those of you who don't speak Spanish.)
This was my second book by Annie Hughes, and it is the second book in the Breaking Free series. While you could definitely read book one as a standalone, I strongly suggest you read book one before book two to understand the background. I look forward to seeing what else Annie Hughes has written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read!!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book.
Annie Hughes is an author that I know could never disappoint me. Whether it be a paragraph she sends me, or a novel, I am immediately enthralled. She writes with a passion that enables mine, and other readers, emotions to be completely taken hostage. And our attention of course! I couldn't put her books down, even if I wanted to!
Breaking Free: Learning to Fly was no exception to this, I absolutely adored every part! This flowed from the first book flawlessly, in my opinion.
There are certainly some unexpected routes in this book, but that's one of the many things I loved about it, it's so unpredictable!
Although her Stepfathers trial is over, Anna has a long way to go before she can 'fly alone'. This is portrayed perfectly in the book; Anna's mixed emotions, confusion over her identity and who she is supposed to be, now that she has a loving home and family, which was something she didn't ever dare dream of before.
If you loved the first book, you definitely will this one! There may be moments where you're slightly mad at the author, Anna, and all the other characters... But you will understand everything in the end.
Well done Annie, on another incredible story, another one to add to my favourites!
I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant MUST read
Format: KindleVerified Purchase***TISSUE WARNING***
Anna's journey continues in Learning to Fly which picks up where Una Familia Segura left off.
Where to begin...
I laughed & cried, sometimes both at the same time. I may have hated Annie a time or two for the twists & turns she throws in but I must admit all is forgiven in the end as she has done it again with another phenomenal story that had me hooked from start to finish!
It's no secret I ADORE Anna & just wanna hug her, HARD (which she would HATE! Well, suck it up buttercup.)
She truly amazes me with all she has overcome but can the broken girl truly learn to fly?
Certainly not without the support of her family & friends but having been dealt such a terrible hand in life then being betrayed by the one person she trusted in her life 'before the Porters' can Anna allow them in & trust again?
I have so much love for the supporting characters David, Mel, Logan & Chloe, as well as some new characters (who all deserve their own story) but I will refrain from talking about them further as this is all about Anna.
This is a MUST READ series, so go find out for yourself just how beautiful it is.
