Leather Apron (The Misgivings of the Vampire Lucius Lafayette Book 1) Kindle Edition

2.9 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

Leather Apron is #1 in The Misgivings of the Vampire Lucius Lafayette series.

Lucius Lafayette is not your mythological vampire. He's not your pasty face, sparkly, brooding vampire. He's real and he's a werewolf killer. Werewolves are his vermin and he's the exterminator.

He enjoys garlic and sunbathing in Saint-Tropez. In his spare time he hunts werewolves and rips them apart, limb from limb.

Jack the Ripper has been terrorizing Whitechapel, London for weeks now. People are scared and the police just can't get a break in the case. It's up to Lucius to travel back to 1888 and catch this killer.

The killer is the alpha werewolf of the Vladlk pack who has escaped Lucius' clutches for decades now. It's time for revenge and for the vampire to put an end to the werewolves terrorizing their herd of sheeple.

Ever since I was a little kid I used to fly around my backyard pretending I was a Jedi Warrior or Federation Captain. When I say fly I mean run around pretending I was in a space ship.

Me and my friends used to take wooden rulers and paint and draw elaborate controls on them and these were our joysticks. We had X-wing fighters and USS star ships and we would spend hours exploring alien worlds and getting into dog fights. The good guys always won.

When I got a bit older I started to absorb everything I could about vampires, going through my own goth and vampire stage. I loved how cool they were and how they were sort of like super beings or demi-gods.

Not even werewolves could outfox vampires. These mysterious blood suckers were lurking around every dark corner of night, just waiting to pounce on unsuspecting victims.

And so now I write both science fiction and vampire horror stories because I still can't control my active imagination. I hope you enjoy my humble offerings. You can reach me at sylyntstorme at gmail dot com.

I really like the writing style and the humour of Lucius Lafayette, the vampire MC, but the plot seems to me to go nowhere. The idea was not bad, but I would expected a different ending.
The cover is the same of another vampire book that I read a couple of years ago.

But honestly I couldn't get past the 10th interruption of exposition. I got the idea the author was going for, but it was extremely over done. Editing would dramatically improve drawing a reader into the world the author is trying to create.

At first it took me a few pages to get into the banter going back and forth between the narrator and character. Once I got past that I kind of liked it. The story had very original concepts which is always nice in a genre that's been written to death. The writer has a sarcastic wit that really came through in the telling.

I will say that the very last sentence of the story left me on a cliff. Which no doubt the author intended. I will look for a continuation of the story line.

I totally enjoyed the style of writing and the cute (and sometimes funny) back and forth banter that was going on throughout the story. Lucius is a vampire who can go back in time as he tries to find a dangerous werewolf and kill him. Actually he wants to kill all werewolves since they are nothing but vermin to him. This was a short and interesting read with a bit of a surprising end. Overall, I found this to be a riveting read that pulled me in from the beginning. :)

Very interesting concepts. These vampires refer to humans as "sheeple". We are to be protected from the werewolves, but thinning the herd is sometimes necessary. There are a lot of new things to think about here. Instead of a short story, I would say this is more like a Prologue to the beginning of a very new take on vampires and werewolves. Anxious to see where this goes!
